First Ever Disneyland Trip Updated 10/13 - Page 42 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I didn't have to see the doctor today so that is the best.

It is always fun to spend time with our families.

Fall is my favorite, too. In fact, I love mid-September through New Year's Eve. Lots of beautiful colors, family time, and good food.

Glad you got the Photopass ordered for your DL trip. It will be time to begin coordinating clothes soon for the trip!
Luke and I spent some time in travels this weekend talking about what we plan to pack. We will have a washer and dryer, so I'm hoping I can manage to pack lighter.
UTI Update: I have been pain free since Friday afternoon, and I have been exceptionally good at drinking water. I did not receive a call from the doctor today, so that means nothing new has been turned up. Besides being a little tired by the evening, I have felt like myself again.
Saturday we got up around 7:00, and I fixed chocolate chip pancakes for breakfast. After cleaning up the kitchen, I quickly checked e-mails before getting myself ready. Luke had said we needed to be pulling out of the driveway no later than 10:00. We actually were pulling out at 9:43. That allowed us time to drive-thru McDonalds for drinks to add to my hydration that I had started immediately after getting up. My constant drinking did mean a couple of restroom stops along the way, but all was good. We were the first of Luke’s immediate family to arrive at the party, Aunt Elda has Alzheimer’s for a while now, but she is still functions quite well and is amazingly happy. She knew us when we got there, and posed for a picture with her. She might not remember we were there now, but we had fun in that moment. Eventually, more of Luke’s family arrived and I spent quite a bit of time looking through Aunt Elda’s photo albums with my sisters-in-law. Unfortunately, we each found a few photos of ourselves that we thought were hideous. Around 3:00 we said our goodbyes, and headed back south to Glasgow.
June had been cleaning all day so she was in the shower when we arrived, but I used that time to catch up with Daddy. We asked him what he like to do for his birthday dinner. He was so cute when he asked if we could eat at Freddy’s tonight and then Colton’s Steakhouse after church on Sunday. Everyone was in agreement and off we went. We each got combo meals; I actually had the kid’s meal with a grilled cheese and fries. I love grilled cheese. I asked Dad if he wanted ice cream, and initially he said no, so Luke headed to the counter. When Dad realized everyone but he was going to have ice cream, he told me he’d like a single scoop of chocolate in a cone if that was okay. Sure thing, birthday boy! I ran up to Luke who hadn’t ordered yet. For the next 10 minutes or so June and John marveled at how quickly I could eat ice cream. They had their cones about 5 minutes before us and I finished before June. What June found so hilarious was that I eat everything else slowly, but I can engulf ice cream. Back at their house, Daddy, Luke and I turned in about 9:00. I was worn out.
Sunday we were up around 8:00 and got ready for church. Dad was so excited that we were going to be joining him today, and I was curious as the church has undergone extensive refurb since Luke and I got married there over 30 years ago. June and John go to a different church, which we knew was a lot like ours here in Owensboro. In the end, Dad’s church has undergone a variety of worship changes and is now very much like ours, too. It was also good to see folks I remembered from growing up. As Daddy had requested, we met up with June and John at Colton’s. Lunch was delicious and Daddy didn’t even mind the wait staff singing Happy Birthday to him as he got an ice cream sundae, too. After lunch was over around 3:00, we said more goodbyes and headed back to Owensboro.
Today ended up busier than I had originally planned with four loads of laundry, including the sheets; cleaning our floors; completing our four mile walk; taking my car to the car wash to rid it of a billion bugs; shopping at Target; adding a few more fall decorations (I’m still not done): and setting up the appointment to get Luke’s new car key/fob programmed. Over the course of the day I’ve walked 18,671 steps (so far).
As far as DLR planning goes, nothing fit in today. I also didn’t get photos of the decorations yet. And I’m waiting on John and June to send me photos taken with Dad’s and John’s cameras.
I am so glad you are feeling better and it sounds like you had a great time with family. My grandma just got moved out of assisted living into an Alzheimer's unit. She is in the last stages and it is such a tragic thing. It was a rough day on everyone, since she is just angry and doesn't understand what happened to her. But it actually is a much better place than she was in.

So glad you're feeling better and sounds like you had a lovely weekend.
We did enjoy our weekend even if it meant lots of work yesterday.

That is one of the reasons we are so happy that so far Aunt Elda doesn't have the anger and belligerence. We have a friend who became that way and is so tragic.

I think I may not have worded my update well because all the work was on Monday.
I'm so glad I felt well enough to really enjoy it.

Is Freddy's a chain? I haven't heard of it/seen it before.
Freddy's is a chain known for its steakburgers and frozen custard. We went through the drive thru about a year ago on a road trip. We ordered double scoop chocolate waffle cones. When we got to the window to pay and pick up, we both questioned whether these were doubles as they were massive. So satisfying at the end of that road trip. So whenever we travel, we look for one. Rumors are we might get one here, which would make me quite happy.
No Freddy's around here, but it sounds like we need one!
You do! I love the 50s dinner feel and the food really is tasty for fast food. I can't imagine anyone faulting the serving sizes yet. John laughed when he picked up there baskets that were overflowing with fries. But he and JP along with Luke managed to eat everyone of theirs. June and Luke helped me eat mine and there were still enough leftover for someone to fill up on.
My heart is not into an update tonight. We had another busy day, and I didn’t get on the boards until shortly after 6:00 PM. Not long afterwards I read that we had lost a beloved PassPorter, Bill (lizardcop). I was so shy and confused when I joined PassPorter back in 2004, but Bill helped me get through the technical stuff without ever making me feel stupid. I had asked for help in setting up my signature with a photo. But after I posted it, Bill noticed that I’d labeled it with my name under Luke and his name under me. He kidded me like a big brother about it, which finally got me to relax. Then years later when I became a guide my first forum was with Bill in The Darkroom where I now pestered him with photography questions and learned the photographer’s mantra, “Practice, practice, practice.” Once when the guides exchanged phone numbers, I accidentally dialed him as I put his number in my phone. I immediately hung up before he could answer because I was embarrassed. A moment later my phone rang and it was Bill. He just wanted to check on me, laughing when I told him what I’d done. We talked for a little bit and he was just like I knew from the boards he would be. I never got to meet him in person, but I felt he had my back. I enjoyed his daily photos on Facebook and his texts when he traveled. My heart aches and the tears are here. He will be missed.
