Halloween, Hawaii and holiday celebrations - THIS SECTION COMPLETED 12/27 - Page 40 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Oh my, looking at your pictures made me realized we never shopped in any of the UK stores! You'll find out later in my TR what we did do in the UK, but...darn, we forgot to look inside the stores!
Glad you had some successful shopping. Out of curiosity, what happened to your cutlery? I was thinking about maybe getting a set for myself, but not if the rusting happens easily.

No! I'm intrigued now to find out what you did do in the UK though...

We've got three sets now, one from I think the 2011 trip from Disneyland, although I wouldn't swear that was where we got it, then we got another set last Christmas, as we found we needed more. We got the third set, as we had an issue with the dishwasher. I didn't put the lid on the salt dispenser properly, and some of the glasses ended up white and, at around the same time, some of our knives got rust on them, so I assume that's where it came from. I don't believe there's a problem with the cutlery itself....
Love the angle of your pictures around the UK in WS. Great information to know about the FP+. for sharing. Can't wait to hear your opinion of BOG and MNSSHP.

Friday 1 November – part five: seeing the Halloween decorations!
My priority was to get photos of the Halloween decorations, as I knew they’d be coming down quickly, and did even wonder if they’d be down tonight, with it being the last Party. You just never know with Disney.
As we took the photos, we still couldn’t help but look at them and think Disneyland Paris does Halloween better than Walt Disney World, which has a really sick irony, as Halloween isn’t a holiday that the French or the British (who are the main visitors and therefore the main target audience) really celebrate, certainly not on the scale the Americans do.
We even clocked some of the pumpkins on the shops that looked as if they’d been directly lifted from Disneyland Paris, and frustratingly, a lot of the pumpkin men and women here were exactly the same as the ones we’d seen last time we were here for the Halloween Party in 2008. That really shocked us, as Disneyland Paris totally change the theme every year.
We wandered down Main Street and got some photos…
We did a Photopass shot, but the Cast Member said she couldn’t shoot us with the Halloween decorations as well so she had to do that with our camera.
We had a quick look in the Emporium for any Halloween Party merchandise, but with it being the last one, the range was pretty small and pathetic, and the Cast Members were honest, they’d under ordered this year, and stuff had simply sold out.
We made our way up to the hub, where we were going to stop for a Photopass photographer by the Partners statue, but it really wasn’t a good location, with people in shot behind, including one complete goof ball who was standing on the wall on his cell phone, ruining everyone’s Photopass pictures.
Instead, we got some photos of these guys…
… and the Castle…
… and headed into Liberty Square, finding some things I’ve never noticed before in all our visits over the years.
We headed into Fantasyland, and even though the expansion isn’t done, already it’s starting to feel like a much more overall piece of work, and you can now get a better understanding of what the Imagineers are trying to achieve with this than you could in December last year.
My goodness, work’s certainly come on on the Seven Dwarves’ Mine Coaster, although there is still a lot to do on it, as you can see…
My guess, and I’m no expert on this, is they’ve got a good few months’ work left on this. Maybe an Easter opening, as it’s late April is possible, or maybe the summer?

Ahhhh, the Castle. There is a feeling of "home" in those pictures. I am not a roller coaster person, but I hope the Mine Train is open when we are there in June. I will certainly give it a try!

I'll be eagerly waiting for reports once it is open, particularly from people who are not coaster people, as that will help us gauge whether we can actually do it!
One day I want to visit DL Paris to see the Halloween decorations. How cool that they change the theme each year.
Oh you should! It's one of our favourite times of year to visit. I want to do the new Ratatouille ride next year and I'm thinking of a long weekend in September/October to do it, just so we can go for Halloween again.

The last thing I saw said Spring 2014, but of course that covers a fair time span.
I also saw that the Imagineers installed a few things (buzzards?) at the top of the lift from Snow White's Scary Adventure, so as they did with Winnie the Pooh and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, there is at least an homage to what came before.
Great pics from Tokyo Dining! I have never eaten there and those certainly are an enticement (with the food).
Love all those decorations, although I do recall your pics from Paris being more over the top.
I kept hoping for a soft open for the mine train in late December, but realize that is only wishful thinking. I also saw they installed something from the old Snow White ride, so that will be fun to spot.

I noticed the fall decor was the same as last year when I was there in September, but if I think about it the Christmas decor doesn't change much either

I don't think Disney ever break it down to more than a season this far out. I know Easter is late April next year, and I'm guessing they'd want to have it open for then, but who knows?

Oh cool - I never noticed that.

You've never eaten there? You really must! We'll happily go with you on next trip... hopefully December 2014.

It certainly is.

I think that's definitely wishful thinking, from the state it was in a few weeks ago...
