Forums Closed

As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Tea, Mouse and House - THREAD 3
Great update. Your character interaction at Epcot looked like fun. I hope that's still in place when we go in March.
Your chocolate cake looks delish. Must find that next time too!
Looking forward to hearing about your lunch.

Great updates!! I totally agree- I'd love to see a big event planned for Epcot's anniversary. I'll be disappointed if they do something on a small scale. I love the photos of you and my duck!!

Re: Tea, Mouse and House - THREAD 3
Wednesday 30 November – part five: I think we’re scaring people off and “Sue, would you like to try some wasabi?”
When we got there, we asked if anyone else had checked in yet and were told that no-one had. What? We were the first ones there? That didn’t seem right, we usually seem to be the last. We wandered back outside to wait for the others and then heard a tapping on the window - it was Donna! They were all having a drink in the bar!
Tara was quickly out to see us and to show off her legs:
… and it wasn’t long before Sue and Steve got there and the party was complete:
We were taken to our table, where we had a ball. It become a joke throughout the whole meal that people were getting up and leaving and it was us being loud and clearing the restaurant. I tell you, one table did not like it when we arrived – the look the guy shot us said it all. Fortunately they had finished their meal and left soon afterwards.
Look - it’s the guy with the evil look behind Tara!
And all this was before the food or the drinks had even arrived!
Mark and I both had the sushi – now for anyone who knows a bit about sushi, you do sometimes get wasabi with it and it’s very hot stuff – literally! Mark asked Sue if she wanted to try a bit and I did hear him warn her that it was “bloody hot”. She took quite a bite and I think it would be fair to say that it pretty much blew her head off!
Sue tentatively reaches for the wasabi – little did she know at that stage!
After that, she didn’t trust him with anything and if he wanted to get her to try something, I had to say that it was OK before she would. The worst thing is I knew what she was going through, as I did the same thing at Vero Beach last year and it was not funny, although obviously everyone else thinks it is!
Then our chef arrived and she was great. Now we’d all eaten here before, so we had an idea of what to expect. Well, they obviously add things from time to time, because there were lots of new tricks, like Sesame Street with the prawns:
… and the phone call for me which was great, all recorded on video – that does mean no photos of it though! The show here is worth the money itself, but with a table full of friends and excellent food, it’s a sure fire winner.
I had the shrimp and scallop and I was the first one to be fed as the fish is always ready first. Mark had the steak and scallops, but I couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for Steve, who went for the steak and chicken – the last two items to be served up. Again, the food was excellent, although I do wish that they would serve the beansprouts a bit earlier in the meal, they do seem to turn up a bit too late, once everything else is gone. The bill ended up coming to $30 per person, which was great value.
Trying to calculate the bill was fun – Steve ended up using his watch to try and work it out:
Teppanyaki
Appetiser 9 9
Entrée 9 9
Service 8 8½
Atmosphere 10 9
Value for money 9 9
Average score: 8.95
Next: I need to swim more and “where’s Steve?”

Re: Tea, Mouse and House - THREAD 3
Wednesday 30 November – part six: I need to swim more and “where’s Steve?”
At the end of the meal, we gave Tara her Christmas presents and her face was a picture, as she opened them up:
The sunglasses weren’t part of her present – Tara was just pretending to be a movie star!
Soon it was time to go and we grabbed a few photos on the way out:
We walked with Sue and Steve for a while, who were heading back to the Villas at the Wilderness Lodge to check in, just having stayed there for two nights in concierge. It was time for some World Showcase photos along the way:
We didn’t have much time back at the room, but what time we did have, I made the best of with a quick (and I mean quick! ) at the Beach Club Villas’ quiet pool. I literally swam around it about three times and that was all I could manage. This is not like me, but I hadn’t been swimming in three weeks, so I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise. I had a quick soak in the hot tub before heading back to shower and get ready for our DVC PassPorter meet at the Boardwalk.
It was Sue’s husband Steve that chose this venue and I will confess that we didn’t know where it was, but we asked and quickly found it and my, this is a good lounge. What a great selection of drinks they have, including some from Pleasure Island, so I just had to have a Kungaloosh, although I was brought something else to begin with and I’m not sure what it was, but it got sent straight back. Thanks, but no thanks – I’ll stick with my Kungaloosh.
We had a good showing for this meet and it was just the right size, so that we could all talk to each other. Karen (zacksmom1993) brought some chocolates with her and I have to say that these were good. Of course, not as good as British chocolate but actually very similar, so there’s a compliment Karen!
We were all chatting away within minutes of arriving and it was so lovely to meet fellow DVC PassPorters – I’m really glad that Sue and I organised this meeting, as it was great fun.
The running gag the whole way through the meet had to be the absence of the very person who suggested the venue – Steve! Sue arrived a few minutes after us and immediately everyone asked where Steve was. She told us he was following and would be here shortly. OK – cool… except he wasn’t… and every so often she’d get an update on his progress on getting there:
He was running into real problems with Disney transportation and every time he rang, he was at least a bit further along, but no nearer to joining us. He eventually arrived just as the meet was breaking up, so at least he made it, but I think after his encounters with Disney transportation, he needed a couple of stiff drinks before doing anything else!
The hour or so we were there just passed really quickly and, before we knew it, it was time to head off to the Osborne Lights meet at MGM. Evie and Steve (Evie5253) were going that way too, but everyone else was heading their separate ways, so we said goodbye to everyone and went to retrieve the car from valet parking.
When we got to MGM, we were directed down a row and decided to park at the end of it. What a great parking spot that would turn out to be! We were close enough to walk as we were just by where the buses dropped off, so that was what we did.
Next: where did everyone go?
