Fall, Firsts, Food And The Final Frontier-WDW PTR - UPDATED 10/9 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The resort certainly sounds nice! Are you planning any FP+ at all? Those would be on your magic band. Can't wait to hear all your ADR choices! You always have such a good mix!!

Oh gosh, you sound so like me at around that time, talking positively about Rivers of Light and a possible dining package to go with it. Well, we all know how much further we currently are with that one... no further forward!
The B Spa sounds good - I love spas, and the cheaper the better!
As it's a PTR and as my plans develop, I like to keep things in the present at that time as I think it works better! It really is too bad about ROL as we can only hope of the possibility for our trips, but not looking promising at the moment. I would think we would have heard something by now as the JB show ends next weekend as far as I know.
The spa sounds like a good idea and did some treatments on my Disney cruise and have done a few others. It's a bit cheaper than Disney but not a lot but there are discounts offered and hope to take advantage of them!

I forgot about that you have to have a Magic Band for Fastpass+, so I guess I will have to replace my old one from the Disney store. Since I'm not staying on WDW property so far I will have to buy one and put it on MDE and link my tickets, when I get them!

Your early planning on the trip is great. Several things you mention like RoL remind me of our planning for May as well as Cheryl's comments in her PTR. Lots of us have been waiting for news.

Yep, that's my understanding as well. I keep checking for any updates on the Disney website, and nothing. Goodness knows what's going on, but I'm giving up hope on any form of night-time show for our trip...

Unfortunately, you may be right on this for both of our trips!

I would really love to go to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival one day! Unfortunately, it happens at a time of year that I simply can't go....
So far so good! Looking forward to my very first experience for the Festival and can't wait until mid October!
Was there another cross country trip this year for you and your family as I love these "Road Trip" TRs? Love watching your kids grow up over the years in these, but your two oldest ones don't look like kids anymore in your last TR a year ago! Amazing, how much territory you cover and make it affordable, which means great budgeting and planning on your part!

I’m sort of in transit now as not much for the big planning as more of that will take place in the coming months. One thing, I’ve been considering is visiting the Four Seasons resort, which is basically between Fort Wilderness and Port Orleans Riverside. It’s quite an opulent resort as there are some good dining options there, plus I wouldn’t mind exploring the resort a bit. It is also the location where the best WDW golf course was located and that was Osprey Ridge. No longer part of the WDW golf courses as you have to stay at the resort to get the discounted rates or pay large fees to play. The course has been redone and from the photos I’ve seen of it, looks quite amazing. I know they kept the basic layout of Osprey Ridge. Perhaps, someday….?
I received an email from the Swan and Dolphin resorts and they have quite a great offer through September 30th, but unfortunately, that doesn’t help me with my October trip. Rooms are $149 and $159 for the Dolphin and Swan respectively. I can only hope as it would be more convenient than staying in Disney Springs. My guess, is not that likely for my dates as there are a few of them during my dates that are sold out already, so that’s not a good sign! There must be a big convention during this period. The dates are Sun, October 16-Tuesday, October 18.
During this period there were many announcements regarding new eateries coming or will be opening soon in Disney Springs. There are a few new eateries now open, but some of those I’m very interested in don’t have an opening date yet, so I may or may not wait for these as who knows, if they’ll be open by the time my trip rolls around.
So with all of this in mind and my 180 ADR window, which doesn’t begin until about the middle of April next month, here is what I have in mind for my ADRs!
ADRS (First Draft)
Saturday, October 15th The Boathouse-Disney Springs; around 8pm -A first for me and looks interesting, although somewhat pricey. Reviews have been a bit mixed early on this one.
Sunday, October 16th Trattoria al Forno-Boardwalk; around 6-6:30 pm. -Another first for me and looking forward to trying this one as the menu looks good with some very good reviews.
Monday, October 17th Capa-Four Seasons resort; around 8 pm -Another new one and off property, but eatery looks good as it’s a tapas establishment, so I may give it a try.
Tuesday, October 18th Victoria & Alberts-Queen Victoria’s Room at the Grand Floridian; around 6pm. -An old favorite and always included in my ADRs. I’ve dined in this room on two previous occasions, although quite a hefty price. I have also dined in the main dining room on several occasions. I will be using my Disney Reward Visa points for this which will definitely make this one more affordable.
Wednesday, October 19th The Wave-Contemporary Resort; around 8pm. -I have been here once, just after opening around 2009 and thought it was pretty good.
Thursday, October 20th Morimoto-Disney Springs; around 8pm. -Another first and this one looks so good from the menu to the interior and design of the restaurant.
Friday, October 21st Sanaa-Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani Village; around 6-6:30 pm -I’ve dined here on two previous occasions, once just after opening in 2009 and in 2012. I enjoy this one very much and a real hidden gem in WDW. I also enjoy the lounge very much before dinner for a drink.
Saturday, October 22nd Hollywood Brown Derby-Disney’s Hollywood Studios; around 12pm -Last dined here on departure day in 2012 for lunch as well. I always enjoy my meals here as I’ve probably dined here three or four times previously. I originally thought about dining close by to my resort in Disney Springs, but I think it’s always best to have some park time on my final day.
I may also make an ADR or two for lunch, while I’m in the parks on a couple of days. One of them I’d like to try is the Skipper Canteen in the MK’s Adventureland, but as of now it’s just walk ups or same day ADRs. I’m sure they’ll eventually be added to the regular ADR system.
So, there you go, but this is tentative as my booking window has yet to open and I think you can pretty much bank on these just as you can with Tara and her planning!

Looks good Dave. We have two of the same with Morimotos and Sanaa both for lunch. We usually eat a larger lunch and do the F&W for dinners. I'm also interested in Boathouse and Fronteras. Who knows may make something if it fits in and we want something different then the tapas at F&W.
