As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

for more information for Chuck and for your Dr visit as well! But being down 15 lbs in a year is nothing to sneeze at! It's an accomplishment in my book!
Thanks Maci! I thought so too! Doctor said he would like to see 1 lb a week loss.

Chuck gets his second opinion tomorrow. He's a bit concerned but we are hoping that it's something simple like adjusting his pacemaker settings. We will know more tomorrow and I'll update after that.
Now - I am definitely looking for a new doctor! When I told my doctor how I was glad my blood sugar was doing well even though I was under so much stress (with Chuck and his heart problems) he started talking to me about CHUCK. Is he watching his blood sugars, his diet, does he want to live, does he have good life insurance. Then he suggested AGAIN that I get bariatric surgery! He did this last year too! I swear he must get a kickback for everyone he recruits. I told him in no uncertain terms that I would NOT EVER undergo surgery for this. He started in on how "safe" it is. "It's very easy now with a laparoscopic procedure" I told him that I have seen too many people rupture their pouch or have dumping syndrome or infection and post op complications. He said "Those people are doing stuff they shouldn't be" Then he said "once you get to a certain weight and keep that weight for a period of time, your body thinks that as your new base weight and your hormones adjust accordingly" Sorry I call BS on that. Maybe it's true about the hormones but it doesn't mean that you can not lose weight naturally. I'm looking for someone that is more holistic - looks at natural ways of curing things rather than a pill or surgery. I got my cholesterol down WITHOUT any pills. I found I'm allergic to statin drugs because they tried me on them and they made my throat itch -so I take psyllium husk fiber and Fish Oil daily. So I know things can change with diet and lifestyle change! I know - this may sound strange coming from a nurse - but medicine is a business. Sometimes I feel that taking a pill just brings on more problems and then they have to give you a different pill to take care of that. KWIM?
Ok - now for the fun stuff
Trip update.
We got a notice in the mail that Sassagoula Float Works food court at POFQ was going to be under refurb while we are there. Boo- no beignets! So Chuck and I got to talking. Did we REALLY want to stay there? We weren't too excited about the pool there. We like that it's a small resort but we really did want to utilize the food court for our breakfasts. Since we couldn't do that and would have to go elsewhere for breakfasts too, why not stay elsewhere? Did we want to try to get into OKW or somewhere with our DVC? How could we change up our reservations? So I got looking and NOTHING was open for DVC except for a 1 BR at Saratoga Springs. We don't need anything more than a studio. I did find that there was availability at Caribbean Beach so that's where Chuck wanted to switch. I called today and switched from a King Bed at POFQ to a King Bed at CBR still with 6 day PH tickets. They didn't have any free dining (that went fast) but we really weren't switching for that. (I had already asked Chuck if he wanted to when free dining came out and he said no at that time). There was a bit of a price difference - a whole whopping 8 cents!
So now to start looking at CBR. I like the looks of the pool and the colors and everything. Should be fun. No matter what - we are in Disney!
We are DVC members. We were not going to use our point this year. Then realized that since we are doing a cruise next year that we would end up losing this years points if we didn't use them (or sell them). So I checked out the availability for DVC. The only thing available is Saratoga Springs 1 BR (which we have never done!) If we booked this - we would 1 - utilize our points that we have been paying for all along and 2- save almost $2,000. (More than enough to pay for V&A!)
So for an upgrade - we are NOW going to be at Saratoga Springs for the week with a 1 BR villa. Same dining and we bought separate park tickets - same 6 day PH though.
Who does this?! Am I insane? So for this trip - we are going to only have to spend the cost of park tickets, food and souvenirs. Our flight is on miles and our resort stay is on points. It's just the fiscally responsible thing to do. So Chuck won't get his palm trees outside the villa but we will see enough throughout the trip, I'm sure.

No! Disney math! I love 'free' trips! DVC really make it possible!
I'd be changing doctors, too. Actually, I am going to have to change mine, too. But I'm sad because I finally found one I could talk to and who is holistic, but she is moving with her hubby. Darn! I really appreciated your opinion on medicine, especially since you are a nurse. I don't go to the doctor for every little thing because I don't want to just be given an antibiotic or other drug.
We've done a one-bedroom several times even though the two of us don't need that much room. It's actually kind of nice to have all that room to spread out. Congrats on the money savings!
And since I forgot these on your double digit dance day here are my dancing giraffes. Maybe they'll help with the appointment tomorrow, too.
Good decision on changing doctors. If not changing doctors, you should at least get a second opinion when concerning an important issue like this or any high dollar procedure, issue or anything else, even if not medical related!
Hope all goes well for the two of you and the dining and overall plans look good!
