A Rustic Spooktacular Trip for Two: A Trip Report - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Visiting the horses is a must do every time we visit WDW. The barn is impressive and the horses are obviously well cared for. As riders, my children love the setup and facility. We generally visit in the evening. The peacefulness of the horses quietly munching their hay is soothing to us.
We have taken the halloween carriage ride when the kids were younger. They were terrified by the story of Ichabod Crane, even though they heard it many times before. They look back now with fond memories.
More recently the kids took a trail ride which they thought was a great experience. They are seasoned riders and I am very comfortable letting them ride without us. They saw several deer and bunnies along the way. For them, the ride was at a slower pace than they cared for but liked it none the less.
The loading area is very well planned out. The horses are brought into the corral. The loading area is a raised deck area (maybe 4 steps up) so it is very easy to mount the horse. If you are looking for a leisurely new experience at Disney we recommend the trail ride.

What a relaxing start to the day. I love that walk between the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness - you feel as if you're a million miles away from a theme park. I love how Disney manage to achieve that.
The walk between WL and the campground looks like something Luke and I need to do next time we stay at VWL. So peaceful and beautiful! I'd have been staring at the horses, too. Love my animal time!
You should! Its very relaxing! oh me too I love animals so much!

I begged my husband to do the hayride but he was not into that LOL but I agree there is so much there to do!

So well stated! I really agree with that. Staying at that hotel made us feel so far away from the amusement feel which was a nice relaxing end to each day!

Hi Crissy - just found your TR!!! Glad you had such a nice trip down to WDW and that you scored such a great room at the WL!!! I've never had the woods view there but it sure looks relaxing. I have stayed there three times and never checked out the trails but I certainly will on a future trip as I would love to do the walk over to Ft. Wilderness. Glad you had a nice meal at Artist Point and that they gave you a great table with a view after the mix up with your reservation time. Looking forward to reading more.
Enjoying your TR so far and glad you had an uneventful drive from SC. WL is a great resort and have stayed there twice and really enjoyed it here!
Seems like you had a nice dinner at AP and always like this place as I've dined there several times! Looks like a nice relaxing day on the trails and over at FW!

Hey welcome along!!! We will definitely be going back to this resort. We loved it!!
Hey guys! I know most are watching the Super Bowl and I'm just multi tasking myself! Being as we live in Charlotte you couldn't escape parties and celebrations but we opted for homemade pizza and watching it from home!
Anyway time to continue my update:Sunday: October 25th continued part 2....
We ended up getting a bus after about 15 minutes. We found out that we didn't wait much longer than 15 minutes for a bus. The nice part is the TV that tells you the estimated arrival of the next bus which is new to us. DTD is a bit of a ride especially with all the construction but we were pulling in there about 15 to 20 minutes later.
Once we got down there we knew we wanted to eat a quick bite at a new resturaunt and see the new sites in Disney Springs. I am still having trouble calling it this but I'm trying! The name change occurred not long before we arrived in Disney so it was appearing on signs etc but some still said DTD.
We decided to take the new connecting bridge, which BTW is so nice to bypass all the stores and go straight to the other side!
Not sure why but we never noticed this nice bar on the side of Rainforest Cafe before!
We stopped for a few pics on our way over...
We decided to head straight to the Boathouse. We read a lot of reviews and listened to some podcasts about this new restaurant and we wanted to try to get in.
We were so lucky it was the two of us because two seats at the bar were waiting and ready for us!
This place is so cool! The way the decorated was just amazing!
The menu for those of you wondering...
So, we quickly decided on a beer, local of course and sliders which we thought would be small but wow we got a lot of the appetizer and price!!
Our food was delicious and despite how busy we had great service! We decided to walk around outside before leaving and take a picture.
One cool thing about this restaurant is that the doors are open to the deck outside and the seating there on the deck is first come first serve. Then there is another bar with seats on the outside. Its really great!
We had to watch the amphibacars not sure how you spell or call those but they are just too cool!
We decided to walk around the new stores and check out everything new.
The hangar bar is amazing and I loved the theming. We decided we had to come back to this one!
We didn't take much in the way of pictures for the rest of our time in DTD. Not sure why, it was really crowded for sure! We did go get Eric a new soccer jersey and had it personalized. We also looked at the food trucks.
There was still alot of walls and construction but it was much improved from what we saw earlier this year in the spring when we stopped in for the day.
We had a 520 dinner reservation over at Kona before our MNSSHP. So, we didn't stay long but we were there about 2 and a half hours. We quickly walked back and boarded our bus which we were so lucky just happened to be pulling in! We were back to the resort around 400pm.

Nice update....and surprised you were able to get it done, especially with your Super Bowl party and a hometown team in it! Great photos and I too never knew about that bar on the side of Rainforest! The Boathouse looks like a great place, but I have heard mixed reviews about that place, so we'll see about that on my next WDW trip. Probably, upcoming this October for the F&W Fest. for the first time! Also looking forward to Morimoto's (open) and Rick Bayless venue Mexican venue opening soon!
Also want to see the changes to DTD (Disney Springs) that have occurred since my last visit in April, 2014. My longest furlough away from the world since I've been going there since 2002! Took a DCL cruise on Magic last year, so why I was away.
Check out my ongoing TR on this if interested! Link is in my profile and elsewhere!

I'm with you about the name - it's going to take a long time before Disney Springs feels normal to me.
The reason you hadn't seen that bar before is that it's relatively new if I remember right, either that or it moved. I remember thinking the same thing as you about a year ago and there was a reason why I hadn't seen it before.
Glad you enjoyed the Boathouse - I'm looking forward to trying it out on our next visit.
We were impressed with all the changes when we visited in December! We walked through the Boathouse but didn't eat there as they were just so busy but I will have to give it a try soon! Looking forward to hearing about your dinner at Kona and your MNSSHP experience
