I'm going to Disneyland! with 50 teenagers...what? PTR - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I expect today will be very crowded, not only is it a weekend but it is also a magic morning so DD and I will arrive early and get into DL as soon as they let us (8AM). DD wants to explore & discover and not have a full day already mapped out...makes me feel like but I told her okay on one condition.... I suggested we choose our top rides and do them first thing in the morning without any lollygagging, then the rest of the day is hers to lead, rather than me. She agreed and choose BTMR, IASW, and tea cups, I choose POTC, HM, ST, and suggested Mr. Toads Wild Ride. We should be able to get to these in a couple of hours if we do first thing in the morning. The other thing I wanted to try is BTMR at night so that is on our list and if we have not got to PP I'd like to try that if lines aren't too long.
I do not know if we will watch Soundational again, depends on if we really like it or not. I'm sure we'll watch the fireworks, and try for second showing of Paint the night. My goal is to stay for the Kiss Goodnight which we've never seen.
After the rides, I want to have breakfast/brunch at the Plaza Inn and meet some characters! Even with these plans DD should have 7-8 hours to explore and be spontaneous.

I've found TR's from PPer's whose main trips are to WDW and go to DL for the first or second time interesting and fun in their discovering DL. I am working on sharing with you my history with DL. I don't live in CA and haven't in a long time, however because of the gaps in time with my trips I have really seen the changes over the years. The first DL trip I remember was in 1966 or 1967 when I was six, going on seven. I went with my mom, two aunts, 2 cousins 5 and 3 and my sister 4 and brother 2. I do not remember rides, I only remember our encounter with Captain Hook while we were saving tables for lunch. The following are the rides that were open at the time. As you an see Fantasy Land was full.
Nice photo from DL in the 1960's, How much do you remember from that trip and was it a memorable experience?

"Leave My Aunt Alone!"
Historical info...
In the spring of 1966 a Big 10 Ticket Book for Disneyland included 1 A ride, 1 B ride, 2 C rides, 3 D rides and 3 E rides. This booklet was Adults $4.00, Juniors (12-17) $3.50 and children (3-11) $3.00
A Deluxe 15 Ticket book included: 1 A ride, 2 B's, 3 Cs. 4 D's & 5 E's and the price was Adults $5.00, Juniors 4.50 and children $4.00
Here's a list that will give you an idea of what tickets match which rides.
From the Disneyland Guide, Summer 1972: coupon or 10¢
Although, remember that this list was from 1972 and I'm sharing a memory from 1966 when there were 3 new attractions which were IASW, Primeval World (Railroad) and New Orleans Square opened with 2 new shops...Mlle Antoinettes Parfumerie and Laffites Silver shop. I would love to visit these with 1966 prices. POTC was under construction when New Orleans Square opened.
I cannot tell you what rides we went on because I do not remember. I have seen a picture of me on this trip standing with the chimney sweeps from Mary Poppins and I searched everywhere but came to the conclusion that this photo is only on slides at my parents house so I cannot share it with you nor the other photos I remember for the same reason.
On to my memory of Disneyland in 1966.
Cast of Characters:
my Mom (25)
Aunt Karen (24) My dad's sister
Aunt Dianne (23) My dad's sister
Me (6)
Cousin Jerry (5)
My sister Cathy (4)
Cousin Deanna (3)
My brother Butch (2)
The other information you need to know to understand why I was sticking up for my Aunt Karen is that she contracted 3 strains of Polio when she was 12 and was in a wheelchair, could not walk, she did have some hand use but not enough to move her wheelchair herself until she got an electric one much later.
The other thing I need to describe is the hair covering Aunt Karen wore, maybe it was popular in the '60's, I know she wore it often. It was like a fabric swim cap with small circles of light material all over it and all white.
Imagine we are by rivers of America, and there was an outdoor seating area with several covered tables all in a row. I know it was by rivers of America because the Colombia was anchored close to the tables. Aunt Dianne pushed Aunt Karen's wheelchair up to the first table. We were going to eat lunch so while mom and Aunt Dianne whet to get food the rest of us were going to save tables. Butch and Cathy sat on either side of Aunt Karen being they were the littlest while Deanna when with mom and Aunt Dianne and Jerry and I sat at the second table closest to the table Aunt Karen was at.
Shortly after mom and Aunt Dianne left to get lunch who should stroll out way but Captain Hook. He was teasing Aunt Karen and moving her head covering and said hello to Butch and Cathy but Butch was so scared he started to cry. I wasn't going to let anyone pick on my family and so I hopped down out of my chair and marched right up to Hook and announced "You leave my Aunt alone!" He made a pirate noise and began to chase me around the tables. Jerry thought that was fun so he began to chase Captain Hook so Hook reversed his direction to chase Jerry while I tried to fix Aunt Karen's hat and she was trying to calm Butch down and reassure Cathy. Then Hook would swoop around by Aunt Karen again and mess up her hat and then give Jerry and I a chase around the tables again. After about 3-4 times of this mom and Aunt Dianne came back and Captain Hook tipped his hat in their direction and sauntered off while mom calmed down my brother and sister and Aunt Karen and I described how we had been attacked by Captain Hook! You can now see why I remember this event so clearly, it was so memorable it has stayed with me all my life.
Up Next: Tigger! Eeyore! King Leondias, and the 7 Dwarfs when I was 12.
