The Trip Full of Thanksgiving and Christmas 11/19-11/28 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

And then it was on to dessert. Tim and the boys all ordered the same thing. It was the Eggnog Custard Cupcake only offered on Christmas Party nights, and it looked very good!
I didn't order it because eggs and I don't get along always, and eggnog has a way of ruining things for me. I stuck with my usual dessert. But everyone liked their Eggnog cupcake very much.
My Strawberry Creamcheese cupcake was good, though not quite like I remembered it, and a little heavier on the frosting to cake ratio than last time. I still ate it.
After dinner we checked in and got our bracelets for the party, then decided to go to Ye Old Christmas Shoppe and get our ornaments. Tim already knew what he was getting. We told the boys they could get any two they wanted. Everyone scattered once in the shop. When everyone came back together with their choices, Tim and the boys had all picked the Partners Statue ornament without telling each other!
Unfortunately two of the three did not survive as well as hoped on the way home, as Walt's fingers broke off. I have emailed Disney, but haven't heard anything yet. I tried fixing it myself, but it looked like Walt was flipping the bird, so I gave up, and Walt hangs fingerless two out of three times on our tree.
I picked up a Mary Poppins ornament and a Mickey and Minnie with a Christmas tree. Preston found and Oswald ornament. Tim found a Bambie and Thumper ornament, that reminded him of his dad. When his dad saw the part whether Thumper was teaching Bambie to go on the ice he laughed so hard and so loud Tim was mortified in the theater. What he wouldn't do to be embarrassed like that again, so he got the perfect ornament with Bambie and Thumper skating. Caden got a Sorcerer Mickey ornament.
Meanwhile, I saw the Christmas party shirts and lo and behold, they had my size and Tim's size, so we grabbed those. Meanwhile Preston and Caden watched the castle lighting from Santa's sleigh.
And then Tim needed his turn while checking his receipt.

So after shopping Tim and I changed into our shirts and decided it was warm enough for Splash Mountain, which I had promised I would conquer my fear and ride it. For those that don't know the story, this ride has special meaning for our family. My husband grew up on the stories, and after his dad passed away six years ago, he made sure to pass down the traidition of reading the stories to the boys using all the voices, just like his dad did. On our last trip we had an incredible Magical Moment with Brer Bear, but I still had not worked up the courage to ride it. I was determined to do it this time.
We headed back there only to find Splash Mountain was down and they didn't know when it would be working. Alas, what to do? I suggested we go in the gift shop, since we are always looking for Splash Mountain merchandise. While perusing the stuff, a cast member told us (we were the only people in there) that they heard that Splash Mountain would be up and going in three minutes and we could be the first people on it if we hurried over there. We headed that way and sure enough, we were the first people on the ride as it opened.
So what did I think? I was absolutely terrified. The big drop didn't bother me as much as the first bigger one of the ride. And I probably won't ride it again. But today, I rode it with my family, and they were all proud of me. I made sure to thank the Cast Member who told us. I explained to her, that she had no way of knowing our story, but if she hadn't said anything, I just know I would have talked myself out of riding it because I would have had too long to think about it. I explained why the ride was so important to my husband. This wonderful Cast Member, named Darci, instantly teared up. She asked if I had a picture, and I explained that I had the one on my magic band. She went over and printed one! I told her I thought she was just wonderful and that I was going to say something to guest relations because you could tell she was loving her job. We talked some more about her heading home for the holidays and she has never ridden the ride herself because her fear of drops.
Meanwhile I see Tim pick up a mug, and I encourage him to get it. I see Darci whisper something to a cast member, and she rings us up. She didn't charge us for the mug! She is amazing!
So next time you are at the Splash Mountain gift Shop, say hi to Darci for me. She is full of Pixie Dust.
After that magic, which came along with tears, Caden rode his favorite ride.
And since it was such a short wait, they rode it two times in a row!
Not the best picture, but I love the candy canes in the background.
After the we headed up to see the second castle lighting.
I didn't get the best view of Anna and Elsa and Olaf doing their show, but I could see enough. And I cried. Not just a little bit. It was the ugly cry. Here I was with my boys on both sides of the experiencing this gorgeous, breathtaking moment, with fake snow falling on me, and loving every second of it. I had dreamed of this moment. And here it was. I sobbed. The little old lady sitting across from me looked at me like I had lost my mind. I just laughed. No one could steal my joy.
Up next: Dessert and a show, and a parade

What a day you all had in the MK with so much one and especially ending the night! Looked like a great meal and time at BOG!
Glad the photos are coming in for you better and are able to add them to this TR! Do you copy the photos to a WP program first like word than copy them over hear after.....as that's what I do and is much easier? Plus you have a backup if the post crashes and the work you did is lost. Those are the guidelines here and is a good way to go on this! Photobucket can be big pain at times as I have problems too!

The night isn't over yet. We still have a party to attend!
I am managing to do this all on my phone, not using Word. Somehow the sizes seem to be okay using my phone for some reason, but it is a pain. I am making it work. I did get an email from Photobucket saying they are turning the problem over to the engineering department.

I know using a smart phone to do this may be convenient but doing it with a pc/laptop may be easier as you can do much more!

I am all caught up and thoroughly enjoying your tr. Not having photos has made me use my imagination, and I laughed as I pictured you trudging to your room, all tired and carrying suitcases. That probably would have been my breaking point, too.
So happy that you conquered Splash Mountain. It is my favorite ride.
I look forward to hearing your review of the party. We loved it so much, we closed the park.
Good for you, doing Splash and what a magical moment with Darci!
It really was a magical moment for sure.

I am glad you are enjoying it! Review of the party probably coming tomorrow!
Just signed in and got all caught up! Personally, that little sleep and a magical moment would have me bawling my eyes out too! How great to have such little waits so far!
Glad you seem to have got the pictures figured out!
Great day at MK! Dinner looked delish, and congrats on riding Splash!
Let's just say I've found a way to make it work. Dinner was very good!

And, is Caden as tall or taller than Preston? When did that happen? It's just like my kids, they keep growing and growing.
Caden is taller than Preston, and Preston isn't happy about it. They are 4 years apart, and since he isn't the "big" brother anymore, it is kind of a hit to his ego, lol!

Lack of sleep definitely played a part in the tears. But it sure did mean a lot to our family.
