A Little Not So Scary Fun is Right Around The Corner! Updated 10/26 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So glad the new stroller works so well for you after all the trouble getting it. Selah looks absolutely delighted with her purple comfort spot!
The stroller is wonderful!! Selah loves her purple comfort spot for sure!

I'm glad you've got one that works well for you.
Thanks!! The DTD experience was so funny after it was over. We still talk about her planking at DTD.
We are doing one repeat ADR and then the rest are all new for us. We are excited about all the new restaurants we are going to be trying out!
Day 1: We have a lunch ADR are T-Rex. This is our one repeat restaurant. We tried it on our last trip and we loved it. It made for a great first day.
We have an ADR for T-Rex at 1:30. We are planning to arrive around 11 and that should give us plenty of time to get checked in and then head to DTD for lunch.
Day 2: We have no ADR.
Day 3: We have an ADR at 7:35 at Coral Reef. We are planning to do lunch in World Showcase at the Food & Wine Festival just sampling around the world. I originally had a 4 pm ADR at Coral Reef but have been looking for either an early lunch time or a late dinner so that our day was not so broken up. At Epcot we typically spend our morning in Future World and then the afternoon and early evening in World Showcase and back to Future World to do a ride or two before Illuminations. This later ADR will allow us to tour like we normally do. We should then have time to head over to the handicap viewing area for Illuminations.
Selah watching Illuminations on our last trip. I hope she loves it as much this time around.
Day 4: This is Halloween day. We are going to be in Animal Kingdom on this day. I chose this park on Halloween because of it’s early close time. We want the kids to be able to trick or treat at the resort in the evening. We have an ADR at 7:55pm at Cape May Cafe. This should allow plenty of time for trick or treating after our Animal Kingdom day.
This is Selah's first Halloween. She was 6 months old and Asher was 3 years old.
This was last year. Punky Brewster and Captain America.
Day 5: We are going to be at Hollywood Studios this day. We have 2 ADR’s that I can’t decide between. They are both at Sci-Fi Dine-In. The first one is at 1:25 and the second one at 4:45. I think I am leaning towards the 1:25 time. We are going to make a decision on that this weekend and cancel one of them. I said that T-Rex was our only repeat but Jamie, Asher and I have actually done this one as well. It has been 9 years so we thought we would go again and let everyone else try it out. We really like the atmosphere of this restaurant. The food here has been hit or miss but we like a lot of things about it. I am hopeful that Selah does well here. It’s hard to say. We will find out!
I couldn’t find a picture of us at Sc-Fi but this picture is from the trip the last time we went to Sci-Fi. This is Asher from that trip. He was so little and so cute! He is pretty cute now too. On this trip we took my Aunt, Uncle and Cousin. My Uncle is standing right there in front of Asher. My uncle passed away 3 years ago from cancer. This was his first and last trip to WDW. We turned him into a WDW lover as well. We are so happy we got to experience this with him.
Day 6: No ADR. Our two no ADR days are our Magic Kingdom days. We have been holding out hope that we could get into Be Our Guest. We have had no luck there so far. We have looked at a couple of other options at MK but none of them really are exciting us right now.
Day 7: This is our no park day. We have a breakfast ADR at 9:20 at O’Hana and a dinner ADR at 8:30 O’Hana. We have never tried O’Hana and are really excited about this. This is also our only Character meal. I am a little sad about this but this is just the way is worked out this time. We had considered Garden Grill but decided we wanted to try Coral Reef instead. Maybe we will get in Garden Grill next time. This will be Selah’s first introduction to Lilo and Stitch. She has not seen the movies and she did not meet them last time we were there.
It is not Asher’s first time meeting them.
He was so cute! We were amazed that he was not at all afraid of the characters.
That gives us a total of 6 ADR’s and we need 7. I am not sure what that 7th ADR will be yet and we may not know until we get there. We are looking at having lunch somewhere on our check out day. We will have to wait and see what happens.

The ADR plans sound good, and BOG may still come through for your MK day. That photo of Selah watching Illuminations is a favorite of mine from your last trip. The "little Asher" photos are just too cute!
The stroller looks perfect! You all have picked some great ADRs! I really enjoyed the pictures from your past trips.
Thanks! We are looking forward to all of our ADR's.

Thanks, we are hoping we will be able to eat there. I love that photo of Selah too. I love looking back at all of our past trips. Those trips when the kids were little were so magical. They still are magical but the older Asher gets the magic changes a little. It's still all good, just different.
I know I said I was going to tell you about our FastPass+ selections but we had a busy day yesterday with some trip prep involved so I thought I would share that today instead. We will get to the FastPass+ selections later.
Yesterday started out very…lazy. It was wonderful! It was the first Saturday we were able to sleep in a several weeks. It is soccer season in our house so that means soccer games on the weekends. Today’s game was not until 2 so we took advantage of that and stayed in bed just a little longer. After getting up and getting ready for the day Jamie met with a client and then picked up a grill tank on his way home. I worked on some laundry and got Selah ready for the day. After Jamie returned home he started working on grilling some barbecue chicken. We had a light lunch of chicken and rice and started getting ready for Asher’s soccer game. Selah does not like going to the games and really does not do well at the games so she stays home with her CNA. We have a CNA that comes and helps with her for about 20 hours a week. This allows me to get things done that I otherwise would not be able to do, including going to things with Asher. Once her CNA got here we headed to the soccer game. On the way we picked up Wanda. Wanda loves watching Asher play soccer and doesn’t miss a game if she doesn’t have to. Once we picked up Wanda we were on our way.
We arrived at the park about 20 minutes before game time. Asher and Jamie headed to the field while Wanda and I went to find our spot on the sidelines. Jamie is the head coach. He has coached Asher’s soccer team for the past 5 or 6 years. He loves coaching and Asher loves playing. This seasons soccer team had an undefeated season. Today’s score was 9-1! It was a great game with the exception of the parent on the sideline that was threatening one of our team parents. It was crazy! A sister of one of our players was there watching her little brother play and the parents from that other team were being very rude. She said something about letting the coaches and refs do their jobs and one of the dads from the other team said something very inappropriate and threatening to her. She is a 17 year old girl. Her dad then steps in and says something to that other dad. The other dad then gets in his face and threatens him. Yelling at him and asking him to go to the parking lot with him. The dad from our team is calm the whole time and walks away. At halftime the other guy starts to follow the dad from our team as he is walking his daughter to the parking lot. His daughter was scared and no longer wanted to be there. He convinced her to stay and he called the cops. The police showed up a few minutes later and stayed to end of the game. It is really unbelievable how some people act! Today was their last regular game of the season and next weekend starts the playoffs. The playoffs are two weekends and we will miss the second weekend.
After the game we went to Ross and TJMaxx looking for portable chargers to take with us. We have been wanting to get a couple anyway and trip to Disney is definitely a good reason to go ahead and pick up a couple. We found two at Ross that we liked for a great price and then walked next door to TJMaxx to see if they had any shorts on sale.
Jamie was wanting another pair of shorts for the trip. He was out of luck they really didn’t have anything. Our next stop was…Starbucks! It is in the same parking lot as the stores and I had mentioned I was wanting something to drink. I was thinking just going through the McDonalds drive thru for a $1 coke but Jamie took me to Starbucks for a White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino instead. Once the frappuccinos have been acquired we head to Walmart to pick up a couple of things. One thing we were looking for, but did not find, was a Foam Hand Paddle. It looks like this.
I know you are thinking, "what is that for?” Well, let me tell you. They are suppose to be used for a game with balls. At Selah’s school, each of the PE teachers have one of these and they call them the “High Five Hands”. Selah loves the “High Five Hand”. She loves it so much that now the PE dept only uses the yellow hand and the blue one stays in Selahs classroom. She loves it so much that she keeps it with her all day long and it is the only way she is able to get through her work. It is even in this picture.
You can see the tips of the fingers in her school picture. Which is a very good picture! When Selah is not at school she is constantly asking for the “High Five Hand” to the point of driving us crazy. A couple of times we have talked about just getting her one but we just haven’t broke down and done it. Then today she asked me for it and my response is always, “the High five Hand lives at school” but today I said, “we don’t own a High Five Hand”. Selah looks at me and then looks at the end table where there is some change sitting there and she points at the change as if to say, “then buy one!” Done! We didn’t find one at Walmart but I did find one at Walmart.com so when we got home I ordered it. Hopefully it will be in before we leave. We are not sure we can go a whole week without it.
There were a few other things we needed from Walmart including some items for the trip.
We picked up the cups to use as toothbrush holders in our rooms. We chose the Mickey and Minnie cups for our room and the Minnie cup for the moms room. Then we picked out the window clings to decorate our windows at our resort and also picked up a pack for the moms. Glow bracelets and necklaces for the evenings. Rain ponchos (I picked these up mainly to be a able to cover Selahs stroller with. We will all have our rain jackets with us). The little Mickey heads are stickers that I am going to use to decorate our Mousekeeping envelopes with.
Once we finished up at Walmart we headed home but on the way we stopped by Elaine’s house to see what luggage she is using. We wanted to see how it would fit in the trunk so that we know how much space we have. We still had Wanda with us so we were able to discuss packing with both of them. Once we left Elaine’s we dropped Wanda off and went home. Once home Jamie made his yummy chicken salad.
