Disney and Southern California Adventure- PTR - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am enjoying reading about your upcoming trip. My daughter and I and another mother/daughter are leaving for Palm Springs in 6 days! I told the other mother that I'd like to drive to DL/DCA since we'll only be 1-1/2 hours away. I hope to talk her into spending the night and doing 2 days, but we'll see. We're staying at her aunt's house at her invitation, so I feel like I can't ask too much as we're their guests, but I can't bear the thought of being so close to Walt's park and not visiting! Of course, it's killing me to not have this already planned out, but my friend is very laid-back and seems like one of those last-minute type people. We aren't close friends, so that makes it a little more difficult
As for your mother, in the past, have you told her your concerns about traveling with you and your family? Does she know your issues? Or have you gritted your teeth and kept silent? I have 2 suggestions. If she is only hinting around about coming with you to the zoo and Sea World, you can always ignore her. Of course that may "force" her to ask outright. If you want to address the issue directly, I'd say something like "We're really looking forward to spending this trip together - just the 4 of us. While we'd love to have you along, we feel that we need to spend some quality time with just our little family." Or something to that effect! Maybe mention her coming to visit you at your home instead. I've always been very direct with my parents, but then again, they respect my parenting style and don't go behind my back and do things that they know I wouldn't allow or approve of. Good luck! I know how tough that will be for you.
sorting things out with your mom. I have no words of wisdom for you on that front....

Thanks for letting me vent about this a bit. She has just left it at text her when we are there. I did say that I'm not 100% sure when we are doing the zoo, which is true since I'm considering changing dates. I may just let it stay there, and if she brings it up further deal with it then. She changes plans also, and may visit with friends longer since she has her whole 2nd week empty. DH is direct, and doesn't hint at things, so he dislikes when both her and I are vague.
Congrats on getting the Fantasmic! dessert party, especially after everything you went through on the day to finally get through to Disney and book it!

Thanks, I always worry about booking these type of things. When I think about it I never have not been able to get something, perhaps not at my ideal time but not never. Whatever it was good planning or good luck, I was really glad!

and
I hope you have a wonderful trip!
I hear ya on being so close. In fact the last time I was in Palm Springs with my sisters and mom my sisters and I convinced mom to go to DL since we hadn't been in many years. It was that or universal, mom had recently been to universal with a friend from high school and her family.
Congrats on booking the Fantasmic Dessert Party!
And good luck with your mom! I've travelled with extended family and it's never been good. I prefer vacationing, especially to Disney, with just my little family of 5.
We are getting really close so I thought I'd give everyone a quick update. I haven't received our travel docs yet, so I was getting antsy. I decided to call Costco travel on the way home Friday. I only had my cell phone so I pulled up the confirmation email and looked for a pen and paper to jot the ressie number on. I couldn't find one, and instead of waiting till I got home decided they could look up my info by name. I call and give the rep my info, she can't find my booking, she transfers me to Disney travel, they can't find my info either. I am getting close to home by now, it's a 30 minute drive, so I'm pretty worried. Then while on hold the call gets dropped ! I called DH and told him what had happened. Needless to say when I get home I run into the house and pull up my confirmation number and bank statement with the payment. DH who is normally the one to remind me to calm down, you have all the confirmation stuff, proof of payment, etc. is looking at me like what are we gonna do ? I wasn't worried b/c I had all the aforementioned info, but I did have a nagging worry. When I booked the trip after pressing submit for the payment the browser never took me to a final screen, it kept saying "processing don't press refresh or the back button". I just closed it down (after about 20 minutes) and figured I'd check it the next day . I got the confirmation email the next morning and the money came out of the account so I knew we were good, but were we????
I grabbed the landline, so the call wouldn't be dropped, and called back. While on hold I looked at my cell phone and saw a missed call, from Anaheim. I also had a voicemail, so I listened. It was Disney travel calling back, they had found my ressie and confirmed that my travel docs would be delivered Tuesday . I was very happy.
On Saturday a package came that had to be signed for, DH first thought it was the travel docs, but it was the t-shirts!!! I took them out the package and was very happy they looked great. I had the kids try them on and they fit wonderful! I told DD to show DH her shirts. She had her Elsa shirt on, he looked at it and said it was very pretty. At the exact same time we both noticed her name was misspelled . I checked her other shirt and it was correct, and DS's were fine. I messaged the lady who made them, she said she'd stop what she was doing and make a new one right away. I got the email this morning letting me know she got the corrected one in the mail yesterday! I have been very happy with her, and she'll get a great review! Here are Evangeline's shirts...
We had a pretty good laugh about the misspelling. Her name is pronounced as the English would, ee-VAN-juh-LEEN. So when we tried to pronounce Evageline, we came up with something that sounds like a feminine hygiene product! I will post a pick of Emmett's a bit later!

I'm a bit obsessed with reading trip reports at the moment and am enjoying catching up on yours! Sounds like you have a fun vacay planned and can't wait to hear how it all goes!! The shirts are super cute, glad you can get the name fixed in time!

We are almost there! I've got the packing mostly finished, the house cleaned up, and the electronics are charging. I have 1 more day of work, and let me tell you I am READY for some time off. It's going to be very hectic, I've got to get everything lined up for my absence, and deal with being closed for the holiday. I hope to be in bed by 7:30-8pm tomorrow night, but we shall see. Either way it's up at 2 am on Friday to get on the road!
