Yes We're Taking the Baby & No, We're Not Crazy! PTR - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like great plans for AK, in early, fuel up on a good breakfast and fun with some characters and Fast Pass + are so worth it. No running to grab FPs. Can't wait to hear how he enjoys Dinosaur for the first time.
9's are doable at parks....it's like that each day we've been in July. You just need to get there early, clear out for the mid afternoon. On our last trip, we found that we ended each day at Epcot, partly because we could walk to the BC and partly because it seemed less crowded than the other parks. Actually, as I'm typing this I realize it WAS less crowded because Test Track was closed for refurb, and Mission Space only had the Orange side open for some reason.
Glad that Easter went well...and glad that the um...Simpson's Lego's weren't part of it Did he miss them?

my goodness your little man is very brave - Dinosaur, EE, TOT, Star tours. He really must be quite the the thrill seeker
Oh, you have no idea. Over the summer we took him on a ride at the carnival that went pretty far up in the air and the car kept spinning around really fast. He loved every second of it and then told us that the kiddie rides were "too little" for him. I think Chris was feeling a bit nauseous. I luckily used the "pregnant can't ride" excuse to get out of it.

I can't wait either. I don't even care if we leave right after that ride, it will be worth it.

I'm sure they are doable, but after the crowds we experienced last year during May the 4th, I think I'd rather take the boys to the pool. We'll play it by ear though, I haven't "promised" the pool yet, or even mentioned it, just in case we decide the park isn't so bad.
I told Chris if he stopped talking about that Lego set, then Sean might forget about it. So far I was right, but if it happens to be in the Lego store in DTD, I'm sure we'll get stuck buying it. I can only hold that kid off for so long.
Hi Everyone! Sorry I’ve been absent for a few days, things have been crazy busy for the past couple of weeks. While anticipating our trip, there were a few major events that had to get crossed off the “to do” list. I was kind of looking at them as milestones that would get us closer to the trip. It helped with the anticipation of going and for me, being busy really makes time fly by.
One of the milestones was Easter, and obviously that is checked off the list. The next was a major test I had to take. I’m not sure if any of you work in the Project Management field, but that’s what I do. There is a professional certification called the Project Management Professional (PMP). This test is hard, it’s designed to really challenge your thinking and you get 4 hours and 30 minutes to complete the exam. Anyway, between things being busy at work and trying to prepare for this test I’ve had the days whiz by. I got so busy I didn’t even check Facebook for days (is that even possible?) Poor Melissa & Amy got worried and started sending text messages Anyway, yesterday I took the exam and after sitting there for 3 hours and 40 minutes, the computer told me that I PASSED! I was in a monitored testing facility and people were in there taking other exams so everyone had to be quiet. I can’t begin to tell you how hard it was not to jump and down and start shouting when the computer told me “congratulations, you have passed….” Honestly I didn’t even read the rest of the message. I saw “pass” and something about 6 weeks (I guess that’s when my certificate comes). I jumped out of that chair and took off out of the room like the computer would change it’s mind if I sat there too long I seriously feel like a huge weight is off my shoulders and my company will be happy I got the cert, so it’s a win/win all around. Now that I have that behind me, I can get back to focusing on planning for our trip! Chris and I went out to dinner last night to celebrate and I got a gigantic margarita. I even showed our server my test results like someone else needed to see them so I knew it was real. She laughed and gave me my first drink free just because I was so excited she wanted to celebrate too. That was pretty cool of her.
While we were eating, Sean kept telling me I had to open my package. I had no idea what he was talking about. Chris told me that the mail came while I was at the center preparing for my test. He saw there was a box from Disney, but he purposely didn’t tell me because he was afraid I’d be distracted during the exam. He knows me so well!
So let’s recap on my COMPLETELY AWESOME day that I had yesterday…
Major test --- passed and in the bag, baby!!!!
Our Magic Bands arrived!! Seriously, I think the only thing that could have made yesterday better was winning the lottery. Maybe I should have bought a ticket
While I’m at it, some of you may recall that every year we buy Sean a new pair of Disney Crocs for the trip. I personally don’t find Crocs very fashionable, but he is a little kid so he can pull them off better than I ever could. His new Crocs came in the mail a couple days ago, so here is a pic of those as well. The black & white Mickey parts actually glow in the dark. Sean is going to love that in the parks at night.
My To Do List now looks like this:
Easter – Done
Take test – Done
Reserve stroller - we were going to bring our own, but decided we’d be crazy not to have one for Sean. He gets tired just walking around our neighborhood, so I don’t want to think what it would be like having to carry him in the parks. We’ll reserve a double stroller to avoid some tired meltdowns
Mother’s Day
Sean’s Preschool Graduation
Sean’s tubes (my big boy needs to get tubes in his ears again, but at least he doesn’t have an ear infection right now)
Pick up rental car
I also have a few things on my “to buy” list.
Crocs – done
New shoes – partially done, one pair arrives on Wednesday (somewhere Amy is rolling her eyes)
Disney’s Memory Maker
Seatbelt pillow for Sean - I’m trying to decide if those seatbelt pillow pets are worth it, or I should just get a regular seatbelt pillow
I probably have a lot more on the “to buy” list, but I need to finish going through all of our clothes and things first. I have started the staging area a little bit. I’ve also bought Sean some new clothes and purposely picked colors to compliment things I knew we’d already be packing.
Back to the Plans!
Monday, May 26 -
We’ll go to Epcot in the morning. I have FP+ reserved for Spaceship Earth, Test Track, and The Seas with Nemo & Friends. If we get there early, I’ll probably be able to cancel the FP+ for SE, but since I could only pick certain ones from that category, I grabbed it just to pick something. I’m looking forward to going to World Showcase and doing the Wine Passport I read about on DFB. I think it’s $20 and you get a few pours in some select countries, or something like that. It sounds like a fun way to sample some new wines.
We have dinner in DTD at T-Rex Café. We were supposed to go to Coral Reef for dinner tonight, but that got cancelled so I could book T-Rex. I’m not broken up over this, but Chris isn’t overly excited. He has never eaten here and every time we have an ADR, it gets “bumped” for something else. I keep telling him that other than the giant aquarium, he really isn’t missing out on much (IMO). I know some people love the restaurant, so if you are one of them, I apologize for not being more of a fan. I did have T-Rex booked for another night, but Be Our Guest opened up and of course I had to snag it. Now that Sean knows T-Rex Café exists, there is no way we couldn’t go there again this year. I have a feeling that as long as he is obsessed with dinosaurs, that is going to be a mandatory place to eat on every trip. I didn’t want to book lunch there because we are going with the DDP and wouldn’t have enough TS credits.
Epcot is Chris’ favorite park and my close second, so I don’t see us rushing out of there. I do want to work our way over to Magic Kingdom though if we haven’t made it there by now. Sean loves the monorail, so at some point in the afternoon, maybe we’ll jump on there and ride over.
YAY! CONGRATULATIONS! YAY! Good for you passing that exam, and you finished it up with an hour to spare, too! Yes, I'd say that day qualifies as a good one with the Magic Bands arriving and dinner out with a free drink. So cute to picture Owen with a magic band on his little wrist! You've got to stop posting photos of Sean's new Crocs.... When you posted the ones he had with Mickey on one shoe and Pluto on the other I just HAD to have a pair for myself. I wear them all the time now. I don't care if some people think they're ugly-- the Disney ones are cute! So glad I can wear kids' sizes!

Thank you! I was mentally drained at that point. I could have signed out for a break, but is just wanted to get it over with.
I love that you wear those! The Disney ones are cute, I say if you can fit into them, then definitely do it I looked into getting Owen a pair, but they didn't come small enough in a style I liked. I did just order him some shoes though, but I'll save the details until they arrive.
Owen is going to be adorable with his band. In hope he doesn't pull it off.

Thank you! Sean keeps asking to wear his blue Mickey watch. Maybe it's time we tell him when we're going. He knows we're going back, but up until now that could be months away in his mind.

Thank you! I'm so happy that I can just focus on vacation now
I just love this update! Yay for the free drink! And yay for no Coral Reef! And I didn't roll my eyes. I may not be a shoe girl, but Disney shoes are very important. I just love Sean's shoes. When is he getting tubes?
I just caught up with your PTR! DH and I are planning a trip to WDW in August with our 4yo DS, Ryan. We're so excited, as this is his first visit to our home away from home. I am just now beginning to try to plan our visit and I know the pace DH and I normally take will not cut with our DS, so I am enjoying reading your plans and taking them into consideration for our own trip! Can't wait to read more!
