As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Option #1 gets my vote. I always prefer having a rental car as it means you're so much more flexible. Could you maybe do some more checking to see if there are any last-minute deals on rental cars?
I would check out the options for what to do in Ft. Lauderdale on Trip Advisor. If it's a nice day, you can have a good time along the main beach strip - there are tons of shops, restaurants, and bars as well as the beach. Maybe find a movie to help take up some of the time. The Discovery Museum also has an IMAX theater (I think - it's been a while). A water taxi trip along the Intracoastal Waterway will provide a good look at how the rich and famous live.
We have been to Ft Lauderdale, and we went to the beach and there is a really neat place right on the main road that runs along the beach there - can't remember the name, but it is a plaza type place that houses several restaurants/bars, little shops, etc - it would be a great place to hang out, eat and have a drink while people watching......or watching the surf!
We have also rented a car (we took the shuttle from port to airport and rented car at airport) for the day and drove to the Everglades - and we had an evening flight also
Sounds perfect! We will look into it. The Everglades would be super neat as well if we can swing a rental

See I almost feel like it makes it less flexible, because we have to pick it up by a certain time and drop it off by a certain time, plus if it's awful weather and we just want to chill at the airport we will be locked into it BUT we will definitely be checking rates again just to be sure

I always forget about TripAdvisor for activities, thanks for the reminder And I love museums so that's definitely something I'll look into!

Well,it's CRUISE WEEK! This really snuck up on us quite a bit. I spent yesterday doing a bunch of laundry and last weekend we headed to the mall to get any last things. I tried on my "fancy" dresses and they all fit, so I was set there, but Cody needed new suit pants so I'm glad we went a little early, as tailoring took a week!
So we are all set on dinner outfits, but that's about as far as I've gotten. Well and the shoes to go with my dresses. I need to make a real packing list and really figure out my outfits for the days and try on bathing suits etc. Thankfully the weather is looking pretty good down there despite the freezing temps we have here in Texas and across most of America it seems!
I'm going to try to get all the packing done (and paint my nails!) tonight while Cody is at his gaming store so I can hide his Valentine's Gift! Then tomorrow night it's "eat anything in the fridge that might go bad" and last minute stuff. Our flight is at about 6:30am out of DFW so we will be heading to the airport around 4:30 which is going to be a littleee nuts! I'll pack us some Lara Bars/Quest Bars for breakfast type things because I'm not super into what is available at the airport. Although last time we flew out of a worse terminal, American Airlines has two of the better ones, so there's hope. I'll also pack a handful of snacks for "just in case" and mostly the two travel days where you just never know!
I'm also planning on packing Emergen-C or whatever because I ALWAYS GET SICK. I'm going to try so hard to avoid it, but it usually happens. And then Dramamine and stuff for upset stomachs and basically my entire medicine cabinet. I do not want to end up in another cruise infirmary, those places are awful (and expensive)
Then we are bringing our DSs because we are nerds and Nook/Kindle/books. But I have to figure out what's going in our carry on and checked luggage etc etc. Still so much to do! Anything experienced cruisers think I would be crazy not to pack?!
Also I think we are just going to hang out and get lunch and maybe enjoy the beach in Fort Lauderdale. Nothing too exciting as we will have a longgg day. Just debating the whole beach towel thing too. They are heavy and take up space, but if we are considering the beach it seems silly not to have something to lay on? I might actually pack a "beach blanket" instead, since I'm always cold anyway I can snuggle up with it in the stateroom too
