Land and Sea - Yippee! September 2013 -TR updated 02/11/2014 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Congrats on the Magic Bands!! That's awesome that you were chosen to test them. Glad the passports finally arrived! I can't believe how close the cruise is. It won't be long!!
It's getting so close now!

Oh and Titus!
Thanks! He had a great birthday party, now I can fully concentrate on the final on the trip! (Hey- Have a great time on your trip tomorrow! )

I have no idea how I missed you starting this back in June.
How fun to get to do a cruise. You will have to let me know how you guys like the no parks after your trip. I don't know if I could go and stay on property and not enter the parks! I am like you though, there is so much we miss out on that I could probably stay busy with other things, but I don't know if I could do it.
Not much longer and you will be in the Disney bubble and cruising with the mouse!
Glad you have your passports in hand as well and all your Disney mail!
Just finding this PTR - all caught up. Congrats on the magic bands and your no park choice. I'm hoping to do a few no park days - along with park days on my next trip to the world
Great PTR! You are going to have so much fun on this trip!
I love the little pig you made! I actually bought a book of Amigurami (sp?) patterns a few years ago because they are so darn cute, but haven't taught myself to crochet yet . Was it easy to teach yourself?
I cannot believe I missed your PTR Angela but so glad I caught it before you left on your trip. Love the first cruise and the pre-stay at the BCV (that is our game plan for our cruise next year).
Think you will definitely have tons to do without heading into a park, we always plan a few non-park days and we really enjoy them. Splitsville we had so much fun there on our trip a few weeks ago (we did not eat as it was a spur of the moment stop) but the menu looked yummy and it was so cool having the waiter come and bring us our drinks to our alley. The girls had tons of fun.
Glad the passports and your original documents came. Very cool about the MagicBands!
Yes! It was a big weight off my shoulders

It'll be so hard getting on the buses with all the happy people going to the parks! But that's ok

This will be the second time this year going to DW and not going into the parks! (The first time was for a conference, but it was so hard )

I want to say it was easier than learning to knit. I like the one hook, and it goes a little faster. Plus I can make cool amigurumi now Since I knit, I was really confused with the patterns, but I made my self do it - even if it meant watching how to crochet on youtube, one stitch at a time!

Can't wait to hear more!!!
I'm so glad to hear about Splitsville! I ate there when I was there earlier this year for a conference, but we didn't get to bowl. The food was really good and they give you a lot!
This is the BBQ Chicken Nachos - we couldn't finish them
Ohmigosh! This time next week, I'll be relaxing at the Beach Club - finally on vacation!
I've been waiting SO long for this trip. We booked last December! My kids are really getting excited Max knows every youtube video about the Edge tween club on the ship and all the ones about Stormalong Bay I'm sorry about the lack of updates, I've been so busy. We started homeschool again last week and since I teach 2 of the group classes at the umbrella program, I've been getting my syllabus and stuff together for that. I don't really have a weekend because I work EVERY Friday and Saturday night. Sunday is for crashing into a coma after work or church that morning
Since my sister joined us up to a DIS boards fish extender exchange, I've also been sporadically busy with that. I didn't want to spend the money on one on Etsy, plus I didn't want to risk there being a problem with it or shipping or whatever, so I made my own. I wanted to get the most bang for my buck, so to speak, so I found some canvas totebags at AC Moore, got some fabric markers and some stickers and this is what I came up with:
I thought the canvas kind of looked treasure map-ish, so I went with that. I wanted it to be Disney, but the kids are getting to the stage where they still love Disney, but are "too cool" for Disney stuff, you know what I mean? I got an awesome custom shirt for Max that had a Steampunk Mickey head on it (very boy), but he was just like, "meh". It almost broke my heart y'all! (I sent it back ) "Mick-anical" - Threadless.com - Best t-shirts in the world
Anyway, I think we're pretty good as far as clothes. We're bringing a mix of summer clothes and "nice" summer clothes to wear on the ship. I know the new rules say you can now wear shorts to dinner, but I'm making them dress nicely! (Including you Dh!) I need to find another swimsuit. Hopefully, I'll luck out with the sale they're having at Lane Bryant. I got snorkel gear for the kids - wait! Do I need fins?! I put the order in for Garden Grocer - no ADRs this time Dh says we'll eat well on the Dream. I have some quick service places planned out and I'm used to cooking in the room now. I have to figure out how to pack the two pool noodles... I got some surprise gifts for the boys to give at the airport - OH! I have to put a stop mail notice in... and I need to get a few more things for the fish extender gifts. If I can remember, I'll post a pic of those. I need to redo my PassPorter to do list!

I'll be at WDW at the same time you are, but probably won't run into you since we'll be in the parks all day and staying at BLT. I hope our trips overlap sometime, as I'd love to meet your family! I love your fish extender. A perfect piratey-boy look, Disney but not-too-Disney!
