Goin' Down the Bayou ~ The TR (November 1-10, 2012) - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Yuck about that horrible wait to check in. You'd think it would be just the opposite since you were getting there so late at night. Oh well, at least you're there and the room looks great. POR is my favorite of all the moderate resorts.
Just joining in! Sounds like you had a nice easy trip down, other than the check in. We love POR and sound like you have discovered its beauty! Looking forward to your report.
So glad your trip to Orlando was smooth sailing! The girls must have been very excited because they look thrilled even though it's late!
Sorry about the long wait to check-in -- that would have made me grumpy at that time of night. We've only stayed at POR once, but I really liked it. It is beautiful and serene (though very spread out!).

Glad that you made the difficult decision to go.....holy traffic though! Here's hoping you had a smooth flight.
In the end I am so glad we decided to go, it was nice to escape into that bubble and forget about what was going on back home. We had a great flight!

Those were my thoughts exactly! I figured with it being so late there would be hardly anyone else checking in. So much for that theory I have nothing to compare it to, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that POR will be my favorite of all the mods too!!

Welcome! I couldn't believe how beautiful and tranquil POR was, it was hard to believe that it's just moderate resort!

I think it was that Disney high that kept us all going, the girls were especially excited to finally be there AND be staying on property Trust me, though, it didn't take us long to crash at all once we got into that room!
I do agree, it is really spread out, but I think for me that was part of it's beauty

We loved the room! Originally I had requested a room in the Magnolia Bend section as Alligator Bayou didn't seem to appeal to me. Well, the girls got one look at that Murphy bed online and could not stop talking about it!! How could I not request to stay in one of those rooms now? I'm so glad it worked out that way, because after seeing the resort in person, I like AB much better than MB.

Since I knew we would be getting in so late on Thursday evening, I made no early plans for this day. The plan was to sleep in and just take our time exploring POR, while then possibly heading over to the MK sometime in the afternoon before our 6:30dinner at Chef Mickey’s.
I didn’t set an alarm for this morning, but I was up around 7:30 and as hard as I tried I could not fall back asleep, so I just lay in bed playing on my phone while I waited for everyone else to wake. Sometime between 8 and 8:30 the rest of my troop was up, excited for our first day in Disney!
We had ordered some items from Garden Grocer, so we had a quick breakfast in the room and then I started to unpack the luggage I had not touched when we got to the room the night before. I still needed to shower and get myself dressed after unpacking and the girls were getting restless, so Chris decided to take them over to Riverside Mill to get our mugs and just do some exploring.
They stopped in the gift shop and the girls used their gift cards to make their first purchases of the trip, both of them added a new little Duffy to their collection.
The girls were very excited to share with me everything they saw when they got back to the room, Kaeli was talking to fast I could hardly understand her! I was eager to see everything myself, so I quickly finished up getting dressed and we were headed out of the room around 11:30 am. I snapped a few pics of our walk with my iPhone, I know I’ve said it before, but it really is a beautiful resort.
We were all pretty hungry, so we headed over to Riverside Mill for some lunch. I chatted with a CM at one of the registers, and once I had the low down on how to use our dining plan we made our way in to take a look at our options. There were so many delicious things to choose, it was hard to make a decision! Eventually I settled on the Tuna sandwich, while Chris went with a Bacon Cheeseburger. Abby went straight for the Mac & Cheese (just like I knew she would ) and Kaeli had the kids pizza. We were able to get some nut free cookies for Kaeli at the bakery, and I think the rest of us got sugar cookies for our dessert.
If you notice, Abby is wearing a First Visit pin today, even though it's certainly not her first visit. I forgot to mention earlier, that at check in the CM asked if we were celebrating anything and I told her no. She said that she would give the girls the FV pins anyway, so that they could get some special attention. I gave them to the girls, and they wore them only this morning. When we got the MK they wanted them off, they said it wasn't fair for them to wear them since it really wasn't their first visit.
No pics of the burger, Chris was too quick for me and dug in before I had the chance!
Everything was delicious, and I liked that my sandwich and Chris’ burger were both made fresh to order. The only complaint I have is that the kids meals are a little small. Abby only got one small scoop of mac & cheese, while Kaeli’s pizza was literally the size of my palm. The portions were definitely smaller than what we were used to from the CS places in the parks. That’s fine for smaller children who might not have big appetites, but my girls have no problems when it comes to eating. Not a huge deal, but we soon realized that we might have to supplement Kaeli’s meals with a snack or two if we ate again at RM.
With our bellies full, we headed over to the South Depot to catch a bus to the MK. There were quite a few people at the bus stop waiting, and I got a little nervous when a full MK bus passed us by without stopping. No worries though, in about 5 or 10 minutes another MK bus pulled up with plenty of room for everyone who was waiting. Soon enough we were pulling up to the MK and making our way through the turnstiles. We stopped for a couple of pics outside
And then made our way under the railway to see this happy sight
UP NEXT: Wow, We Got A Lot Done and Dinner With Our Favorite Gang!
Glad you're all enjoying being on site! I love the landscaping and the river at POR. So sweet that the girls felt uncomfortable wearing the "first visit" buttons. I don't think it was right for the CM to kind of force them to lie like that!
