As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I love the tunnel such an efficient way to cross the water. I'm with you on the food though seriously lacking. We have a cool so that plugs into the cigarette lighter so we tend to take a lunch from home and eat it on the train. Or if we don't have time grab M&S sandwiches

I love the sign that says "France in 35 minutes." It seems unreal since I live in the States. I can't wait to hear more about your trip.
It's very cool and as we're 30 minutes from the terminal, I love the idea that we're literally an hour from France... of course, with wait times for the trains, it's usually longer than that...

Friday 5 October – part two: I’m so glad we’re going this way!
We arrived on time, and were greeted with bright skies on the other side of the Channel, which is always a good start.
The freight trains – as you can see, they’re very different to the passenger ones I thought this one would make most of you laugh!
Our first destination was Cite d’Europe to go and fill up with gas, as we only had about 150 miles left in the tank. Mark managed to miss the bright pink signs for it at first!
It took a bit of working out how to get to the service station, as they obviously have one or two problems with the concrete structure of the car park, with various bits closed off, as they work on them.
We filled up at just €1.36 for diesel, which is considerably cheaper than the £1.41 we’re paying at home, especially as we get something like €1.20 for every £1. Just to put that in context, at home, we’re currently paying $9.83 for a gallon of fuel.
We headed out of Calais and on to the autoroute. The first thing we noticed was how much rain they’d had, with floods in some of the fields, although I couldn’t get photos of that, as it was too close to the road.
Elsewhere, as we drove along, we could see the colours of the fall in the trees. As Mark said, it was much more prevalent here than it is where we are at home...
We even saw a few cows...
We also saw the train...although not the Eurostar that runs from the UK.
... and this sign popped up a few times and made us laugh!
Soon though, the weather deteriorated. The rain was coming – and soon it did.
I gave up on photos while it was raining, and tried to write some trip report on the laptop, but it kindly decided to die on me, as did one of my camera batteries. Just as well it was raining, and I couldn’t take that many photos...
Eventually, we started to clear the rain, and we saw a glint of the sun in the sky! We were both very relieved to see that, especially as the forecast hadn’t said it was going to be that wet this afternoon....
It was mercifully quiet the whole way along the toll road, as it always is. It’s worth paying the extra money for a much more pleasant journey.
When we got to the end of the toll road, it got busier, although to be honest, it was nowhere near as bad as it could’ve been. The last time we came to Disneyland Paris and drove from the UK was Christmas 2009, and we hit horrendous traffic around Paris. Thankfully, this time it was much better, although not for these poor souls driving the other way. I was so glad we were going this way!
Great photos! France looks beautiful. Your fall comes much earlier than ours. Our leaves haven't even considered changing colors yet. At least not here in New Jersey.
One question though, didn't you park your car at the terminal and take a train? Does the train pull your car? Sorry, I'm European travel ignorant.
Too bad the rains came during your drive, but you got some nice photos of the colors changing. That traffic headed in the opposite direction was terrible! Almost there!

On the English side, you drive your car into the train, and the train transports the cars and their passengers through the Channel Tunnel. Once you're through the Tunnel and on the other side in Calais, France, you drive your car off the train and you're on your way.
Cheryl - thank you for this wonderful trip report. I'm really enjoying it so far... I can't wait until you get to the parks! I lived in Brussels for 2 years, and we had annual passes to DLP. So, I actually am more familiar with the Paris resort than WDW. I haven't been back to Paris in years, so you are helping me to live vicariously.

you drive your own car straight on to the train that goes through the tunnel. Then you just sit in your car for the 35 minute crossing and drove off at the other end. It couldn't be easier!
