Don't Blink, You Might Miss It! Our Super Quick MNSSHP 2012 Trip - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm really enjoying your TR Ashli. I love all your HP costumes and the costumes of that couple. I recognized the shorts and the parasol immediately. How creative to do that. You definitely had a jam packed party.
I'm glad you were able to get a room for your last night - and the few pictures you have of AS Sports made me miss "home" (we love staying there and feel like we're at home). We too enjoy Winter Summerland but we won't do both sides in one day - it's almost too much mini golf for us.

Quick or not, it looks like you had a fun trip! Love the costumes at MNSSHP - yours and the couple you saw. Mini (crazy) golf sounds fun. DH is always asking about a down day (I usually have a short day or down day planned - men!)
Glad you persistent paid off and you got a room at All-Stars. Lunch looked really delicious!! Mini Golf looks really fun. I've never played that course before!!
Hey everyone! I've been really busy today, so haven't had time to do my next segment yet. Hoping to work on it later tonight or at least tomorrow morning.

I agree - all of the CMs at AoA were really willing to go out of their way to help. Typical Disney!

I can't wait to read more.
Thank you, Darlene! I can see why you enjoy AS Sports so much - it was a really fun yet not overdone resort. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again!

That meet is definitely in my plans! I am really looking forward to it! It sounds like an excellent group of PPers will be there.

Oh, you definitely should try it! They are my favorite mini golf courses anywhere. But of course they would be - they are Disney themed!

BRG meatloaf is so good! I wish I could tolerate heavy meat dishes better in the heat, but oh well. I'll get to have some next trip since it will be December and not hot!

Thanks! Mini golf at Disney is better than mini golf anywhere else.

Thanks, Kathy! You should definitely give Winter SUmmerland a try. I like Fantasia Gardens too, but I always get unlucky with the weather there. The first time we played FG, it was one of the hottest days I've ever experienced in my life (it was BRUTAL) and then the next time we played there it was probably the coldest I've ever experienced in FL (last January). They had heaters set up around the course, and I had to keep running over to them to attempt to keep my hands warm enough to be able to hold the club! It was nuts!

MNSSHP 2015: DH (Bane), Me (Batgirl), Genie, and our friends
We got back to AS Sports in no time and changed quickly into our swimsuits. We walked by the football pool at Sports (remember, the main pool was down for rehab) and it was really crowded. We decided instead to walk across the parking lot and check out the main pool at AS Music. I really like the 3 Caballeros pool. As it turned out, it was much less crowded than the football pool, so we decided to spend our time there. We hopped into the food court first and each grabbed a snack. I got an oatmeal raisin cookie, DH got a white chocolate macadamia cookie, and DS got a strawberry icecream cone. My cookie was delicious! (Sorry no pics…remember, I keep cameras far, far away when I am wearing a swimsuit!) Shortly after we got to the pool, the game hostess announced they were going to start a game of Disney quote trivia. Trivia! My favorite! DS and I decided to play as a team, so we went and put our team name on the list. We were “The Incredibles.” There were only about 4 other teams. I could try being humble here, but honestly, we creamed them. The hostess was really impressed I got the quote from Sword in the Stone (haha, little does she know it’s one of my favorite Disney movies! ) and I was really happy DS was my teammate, because I had no idea on the Lilo and Stitch or Cars quotes but he knew them immediately. For winning we got to pick a prize out of the treasure chest, so I stood back and obviously let DS pick a prize. The hostess said “No, you can pick one for yourself as well.” So I got myself a Little Mermaid Pez dispenser. DS picked some giant joke glasses. After the trivia game, Bingo was going to start up in a few minutes. I decided to go join DH in the pool instead. DS came in the pool for a few minutes, but then hopped out to go play Bingo when that started. I was starting to get really cold (yep, in the middle of the afternoon in FL, I was cold ) so I told DH I was going to go back to the room and hop in the shower. He stayed with DS to finish out the Bingo games. I took my shower and then watched football for a few minutes, and DH and DS showed up. DS had won a Bingo game, so he had a cute little rubber duck to go with his glasses. He was happy. We decided to head over to Downtown Disney after everyone changed.
I know that DTD is usually PACKED on Saturday nights. However, I had a motive to get over there on this night particularly. There was something special I wanted to see. We all finished getting ready, then headed to the bus stop. We got off at the Marketplace because we just wanted to take a chance and see if Wolfgang Puck Express or Earl of Sandwich might be viable dinner options. No luck, they both had HUGE (I mean the biggest I’d ever seen) lines. We decided just to hit the food court after we got back from DTD. First though, we were on a mission at DTD. We walked over to the West Side. This weekend was “Frankenweenie” weekend at DTD, celebrating the movie’s release the following weekend. The most special thing about it though, was that Jack Skellington and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas were doing a meet and greet for the very first time in all of WDW! The line was, of course, enormous (2 hrs the CM told us) and none of us had the patience for that. I did, however, manage to get a couple decent pictures when Jack and Sally were in between meets. It was a really neat set up, and there were some serious hardcore Jack fans in line! It was neat to be there for their first appearance at WDW.
We also saw the new Characters in Flight balloon
As we walked through DTD towards the Marketplace bus stop, we needed to stop at a few stores and grab some last minute souvies. I decided to get my Dole Whip shirt at WoD. We got back to the bus stop right as a bus was pulling up. We had really great luck with not having to wait for buses on this trip! Before very long at all, we were back at AS Sports. We went straight to the food court, as we were all starving by this point. I got spaghetti, DH got a hot Italian sandwich, and DS got pizza. (Sorry, no pictures, we were so hungry I totally forgot! ) Dumbo was showing in the food court, since it was the movie for the evening and they couldn’t show it by the main pool. We got to see the end. After we’d devoured our meals, we were all starting to fade quickly, so we headed back to the room. We’d been keeping so busy, we had forgotten our normal tradition after MNSSHP of going through our candy and trading with each other.
My candy stash... I may have eaten a couple (or 20) pieces before I remembered to take this picture...
(I don’t know why, but DS thinks this is incredibly fun. It’s ok with me though, because I always end up with everyone’s Starburst and Heath bars, since no one else seems to be quite as enamored with them as me.) After our candy trading, we were all completely exhausted and it was time to hit the hay.
DS joking around before bed with his "prize"
Be back later to wrap this whole thing up!

If you go to the pool during the day, it is a lot of fun with games and music playing - we've done it a couple of times but haven't played the games. It's just a shame you couldn't use the main pool at AS Sports - the thing is huge. I totally hear you on getting cold in the pool - I do it too but what makes me worse is we go in August when it's hot as anything. I'm sorry to hear that DTD for you was kind of a bust for you but at least you made the most of it. I'm also sorry to hear this report is coming to an end but as I said earlier, even the short trips are still fun to read about.
