A First Timers Disney Vacation Education (01/07-01/23) TR - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

He's a tough little guy. Besides throwing up we never would have known he was sick.

Sorry the delay between updates. The end of the week was very busy and with Alex home from school for the weekend it is hard to get a chance to sit and collect my thoughts but we did get our photo pass cd yesterday so I will be able to include those in our TR. I hope to have an update up Monday. Have a great weekend everyone.

After we passed the gate we got a little lost. Some of the roads were closed, which we found out later in the day were due to the last marathon being run that day. We finally found our way and drove down the road to Fort Wilderness. Now when we arrived I was a bit distracted by Alex being sick so I didn’t get to take pictures on the exact day. Most of these photos are from later in the trip and some I just took today.
The guard was very helpful and directed us to the Reception Outpost to check in.
It was about 8:30 when we got there and we went to the Online Check-in counter. I can’t remember the name of the woman that checked us in but she was very nice and we were happy to be told that our cabin was ready. She gave is our packet, parking pass, first visit buttons and Tom’s birthday button.
She explained to us how the keys work and how the dining plan worked. We were on the deluxe plan and were there 14 nights so we started out with 168 Meal Credits and 112 Snack Credits. I had never really done that math so I was surprised it was that many.
Since Alex was sick we had to get him to the cabin to rest so we kind of had to rush the rest of the check-in she also gave us directions to our cabin and we were on our way. Unfortunately I was only half listening to them and Tom had to go outside with Alex. I was so glad she drew out the directions as well cause when we all get back into the van I had no idea what she said.
We were on our way to the cabin and even though we had a map we still got lost. Tom stopped and looked at the map, he was able to figure it out and we found our loop and pulled up to our cabin.
Because Alex was sick we rushed inside and I didn’t get to get pictures of the cabin before we unpacked the van. I did however get some when we left.
We didn't a good one of the kitchen but it is very nice and perfect if you plan on cooking. I think I immediately fell in love with Fort Wilderness. The area is clean and cabins are nice. It is like having your own home in disney. (I will give a more detailed review at the end of my TR) As we were unpacking the van Tom called the company that we were getting our Golf Cart from and they delivered it in 20-30 minutes. We are pretty sure it was a brand new one too which we were happy with.
(The only picture I had of the Golf Cart lol)
Once we got Alex’s suitcase out we were able to take his temperature (I am soooo glad we thought to bring his thermometer) and found that he had a fever. Plus while we were unpacking he got sick acouple more times. So Tom and I hopped into the golf cart and found out way to Meadows Trading Post. Thankfully they had children’s Advil since I did forget to bring that. When we got back we gave his medicine and he got comfy and fell asleep.
We did some more organizing; I went through what were given and check-in and got myself more familiar with it. Then we all got freshened up from the drive. It felt so good to at least change clothes after that long drive. After about 2 hours or so Alex woke up and seemed to be feeling much better so we decided to sit down and figure out what we wanted to do.

Finally joining in!! Can't wait to hear all about your trip! Sorry Alex was sick! Hope it didn't last too long. I got sick last year during our trip and it was not fun!!! How long was your drive? Our drive is 15+ hrs., but we stop going & coming as Peter was the only driver. The cabins look great-we had friends who were there while we were in WDW, so they were staying there while you where there.
more please....
I really hope Alex can enjoy the rest of his trip without being sick! Waiting to read more!
Thank You! I am hoping to get more up tomorrow. Alex is actually home sick today. I wanted to and finish 1/8 but Alex needs mommy when he is sick. He seems to be getting sick a lot more this year but I think more kids in his class are coming to school sick too.

Welcome!! Our Drive is 22-24 hours depending on stops. Next time we are planning on stopping halfway cause doing that drive all at once is just too much. I loved the cabins they were really great. It was nice to get away from the crowds and not have shared walls. More to come tomorrow.
