As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). I'm glad both girls will be with you and I love that you have four days of 'your way' and four days of family time.
But I am sorry you'll miss MNSSHP and F&WF. We're looking at Sep/Oct next year so we can do MNSSHP again...Hmmmm.....
Hmmm definitely sounds like a plan....we will have to look at the calendars, Angel would love finally getting to enjoy WDW with Cory and Kelley in person not just virtually and I would not complain about getting to wander along with you either

The extension of the trip really did take away the sadness about the F&WF trip being a wash I was so happy finally to get the flights (just got my DME mail today ), I was getting worried that the flights were going to cost more than the trip if the prices keep going up anymore

The DVC does bring a certain ease to knowing that there will be another trip sooner rather than later. I have been doing a great job gathering airline rewards and knowing there is an AP in my pocket does not hurt either

Angel is still planning on a long 4 month until we finally make it our happy place. When I had to cancel the October trip I was worried that Angel would be sad as she really was looking forward to MNSSHP but the other day when she looked at the countdown she said..."you know mom, 4 months is so long to wait, I wish we were just doing our August trip instead " If she only knew she was getting her wish!!!

The longer trip definitely helped erase the "pain" of cancelling, and while I am trying not to get myself too excited, a early Holiday trip in the beginning of December does not sound to bad.

He really is the sweetest guy you could ever meet. It is a pretty sad story as to why his points just go unused. Basically his brother took a trip to WDW with a girlfriend back when OKW was the Disney Vacation Club. He fell in love came home and told his brother we need to buy in. My co-worker was skeptical, he really did not think that they would really need to visit WDW every year. One trip later he was sold. The bring a lot of family as well as their parents so they bought a nice amount of points so that they could stay in a 1 or 2 bedroom each trip. They went every year. About 5 years ago his brother passed away, his mom got sick, he is there caretaker. Sadly she just passed away so it is him and his dad/
Now I really did not know him when we worked in our old building (as our departments do not mingle really) but when we moved to the new building he was a hop, skip and a jump from my desk. We always smiled, said good morning until one day he stopped at my desk and whispered "I heard you are the Disney person"
I did not know what he was talking about. He said "well I heard you have helped a lot of people with their trips, I am a Disney person too"
Well a friendship was born, he mentioned his excess points and I offered to rent them, we came up with a price (which was not easy but at least he is letting me give him something) and well you know the rest.
These extras were a great surprise and I am pretty excited becuase I finally convinced him that he and his dad need to get away for a bit (it has been such a tough year) so our trips should overlap for a day or so. Keeping my fingers crossed that they make it there becuase they both deserve it.
Funny thing is we joke as he said I won't need his points anymore now that I am a DVC member but of course I reassured him I will always find use for a few extra
Now Jasmine was planning from the start how we would tell Angel, we finally decided my dad would come by when Angel was still in camp, load up the car and when she got home we would tell her he was driving us over for a long weekend at my SIL's house. We were going to video tape her in the car as we pulled into the airport and she asked why we were there.
Now Angel's grandmother's block as a block party ever year that Angel goes too. It is one of her summer highlights, as she usualyl brings some friends from school and it is always in the middle of August. ALWAYS....until this year when Angel comes home and says "the block party is July 30th" and she already told her 4 best friends from school and they had already told their parents
I immediately called my BIL and said "what is going on, the block party is never in July". He already knew I would be calling and he offered to tell Angel that this year he would rather she not bring friends but I did not want him to be the bad guy, nor did I want to hear her whine for the next month so I knew I had to come up with something better than the block party.
Now for those that read my TR from last year and remember my "tall tales" that I created in order to explain why we were going to the BW when our room was in POR can already imagine the story I came up with.
Now Angel knows that DisneyDani and I have been trying to plan a weekend out by her so suddenly I said..."Angel you are not going to the block party and you need to tell your friends"
Already the little tears and the lip started going "but mom you know how much I love the block party and we can celebrate my birthday there and...."
So I said "Oh Angel I had this whole surprise planned...we are going to a new water park that is offering soft openings and Dani got us ticket so we are going to be with Dani and Izzy that weekend"...see great tall tales right, and this one just flowed out of my head.
Well as soon as she heard that the block party was forgotten...all she cared about was her weekend with Izzy. Now just to inform my new accomplice to the crime
Dani was on board and we are even going to include her (by speaker phone) during the big reveal once we get to the airport. See once there Dani and Izzy will call to say....Angel you are not coming to us this weekend becuase YOU ARE GOING TO WDW!!!
Yes Izzy is in on the plan we acutally had lunch over the weekend and she just sat and smiled as Angel spoke about how exicted she was about coming to spend time with her and the water park. Funny thing is as much as I know she will be super excited about going to WDW, we will ahve to plan a girls day soon after returning as she is just super excited about having some time to hang out with her friend.
So there you have it...the planned reveal.
So I will leave here....oh wait, I forgot, I did promise to tell you where were are staying, I mean we are doing a split stay and all I left you with was our 4 days at the BWV.
Well we decided that waiting to finally stay in our new home was just too hard. So we will be coming in to AKL (with a standard view) on the 28th, changing to a savannah view on the 29th and moving over to the BWV on the 2nd. I am super excited about staying at AKL. We originally were not going to stay there until 2012, but after reading Cam's PTR and some other TRs I knew that I could wait no longer...and the extra days sealed the deal
Up next: So how many times did I change my ADR's ?
Yup...I am raising quite a little fibber! . Izzy is very excited to be part of the great reveal.....but you really have to pull out the calendar and plan the real weekend trip to the fake watepark!!!!

I am not sure how that story came to pass but I knew that I needed to make whatever we were doing more exciting than the block party and I knew a weekend with Izzy would win over really quick.
I am super excited about staying at AKL...all I keep thinking about is Samantha Brown sitting out on her balcony sipping coffee over looking the savannah...Jasmine told me though that I must promise to leave the balcony and head to the parks at a decent hour

I still cannot believe that we have kept the secret so long, I was kind of nervous telling her in the airport since the last time we surprised her she burst into tears...Jasmine has reassured me that she will bring extra tissues, I guess she will be doing this as she holds the camera as last time we missed video taping the reveal so this time it definitely has to be docuemented, don't know how much longer I can pull off these surprises.

The calendar is out...I know one of the first questions out of Angel's mouth once she gets over the surprise will be "but mom, but what about me and Izzy's weekend?" so will definitely have to have a response waiting in the wings.
I am so glad Izzy is part of the reveal I think it will so great for the surprise to come from her

He is a wonderful person, I really hope him and his dad make it there for a few days, they both deserve this trip.
I am a bit sad as we have tried so hard to make it for a F&WF and MNSSHP but I just keep saying I got a have a nice long trip in August and it will just leave me something to plan for next year.
