Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Here's some for the Tahoe! Maybe it's a sign it wasn't meant to be.
Sounds like you've got some great plans in the works. I can't wait to go to MNSSHP this year either. Having 10 of us going we're going to be hippies - basically I'm just making a tye dye shirt for everyone. Maybe one year we'll go without so many people and it will be easier to do.
Thank you for the pixies. Still waiting to hear...
I can't wait to see a pic of 10 hippies walking thru MK!!

Can you post the photo in passporter?
Finally able to post photo, my silly computer was fighting with me the other day. Sorry. The photo was from '09 so I had make the pin, nametag & apron. Now you can go to the web and order them.
ps, it rained that nite and the progressive on my apron ran all over the place!
How have I not found this already??? Will write more when I can do so from my computer--currently thumb typing on phone.
But yay!
EDIT--
ok, i'm on my actual computer, and somehow passporter is working on my home network. here's hoping it stays working after i hit 'save'!
i'm so glad that my trip report helped you decide upon a solo trip. solo is the best! seriously, you'll be hooked. i'm taking my mom in two weeks, and am still planning a solo day after she leaves (seriously!) however...
i know i commented on your trip report with something like 'wow i really need to go to disney with you and your friends' because you seem like so much fun, and i'm already planning on being in WDW this coming fall for a while SO...if i am there, let's meet up for dinner one night. i don't want to un-do your solo trip, and i really need to be solo for my (long) trip for professional reasons (that sounds so silly!) but yes--let's do dinner. or at least drinks...or hang out at the food and wine events at the dolphin. there's a wine tasting class i have my eye on!
i read all about the food and wine classic, and was super enthusiastic about it anyway. i have next year off from work, an AP, and the ability to buy a cheap flight down to orlando if i'm not already there doing research...so why wouldn't i? right?
EDIT AGAIN--i just looked at flights. i'll be there, even if i'm not driving down (which i was planning on doing sometime in september, and staying for a good month. it's a long, long story!) in fact, i think one of my other PP friend is going to be in WDW at that same time. i'm going to go ask her now, and plan accordingly. yay passporter trip synchronicity!
All of you solo travelers are making me think "I can do that"!!! Is this what happens when we turn 40? LOL!!! I am thinking of adding a solo trip to my bucket list!
i started traveling solo when i was about to turn 30, and it's only gotten 'worse' since then (it's only been two years, and i'm leaving the continent solo!) and yes, disney solo is never really solo--you'll meet and talk to so many amazing people. i promise!

Ok, I know I said I wouldn't make any ADRs but I did anyway. Just one. Le Cellier. Had to. I felt compelled to! After months and months of reading TRs and how truly awesome Le Cellier was I figured I owed it to myself - I am going for the F&WF after all!!! So on my first nite, at 4:50pm I will be FINALLY going to Le Cellier.
Phew! What a relief! You just made all of us hyper-planners feel much better! Sounds great so far!

You bet your Bibbidi Bobbidi Booty that we will meet up! Even though it is technically a solo trip I plan on meeting up with some friends at one point and would LOVE to meet some PPs!!! I think hanging out with PPs on a solo trip would be better than if I was with friends or family since they would have no idea who a PPer is or where they came from. The nerve!!
I really plan on going to the Party for the Senses on Sat the 8th. don't know if you're up for a party, but that sounds like a most excellent time! If not, we can meet up anytime, just let me know!
Yesterday I actually had a moment where I thought I should cancel my trip Crazy talk!! See what happens when I do laundry? Maybe I inhaled too much Oxyclean or something because I felt like I can't afford it, why would I go alone, derp, derp, derp.
Don't fret, my vacation is still a go. I'm even socking away some money so I can purchase an AP. I really should have bought one last October when we went to the F&WF but I didn't know then that I would be making three trips within a year!!
I only have three days left on my non expiring pass and I want to visit parks all four days that I am there. It just seems silly of me to purchase a one day park pass. If I picked up an AP, I could fly down during the holidays and catch the holiday festivities (haven't done that since my very first visit) and see some friends too! Not to mention the great discounts.
Thank you for finding my Flo costume funny. Had a blast dressed up as her. Won a costume contest too!
For those following along on my stolen Tahoe story: The police called my dealership and let us know that the crooks rammed the truck into a telephone pole and the airbags deployed. Instant total. Crap. Guess I'll return the check to the bank.
Sorry to hear about the Tahoe.......
I have a Yukon and LOVE it......but it is getting up there in age and I know I am going to have to replace her (I call her the Tink Mobile!!!) soon.....

I am planning on going to that same Party for the senses. I wonder when they start selling tickets for it.
I am planning on going to that same Party for the senses. I wonder when they start selling tickets for it.
I googled it all last week for photos, prices, dates all based on last year and 2009. Looks like tix will possibly go on sale around August which will give me time to save up since I'm planning on getting tix to MNSSHP and an AP before then.
Sounds like this party could double as a meetup.
Have you gone to the Party before? I'm really thinking of splurging and getting the Wine Lounge upgrade. I am so excited to see the Cirque acts too. I think you get special seating at the America Gardens theatre with either ticket. OMG, I'm so excited right now!!!
