Update on the release of PassPorter's Disney Cruise Line 2011 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Really looking forward to the new edition... We are planning a Med cruise for this August and I love the excursion reviews in the book! Will preorder as soon as I see it available!
Amazon.co.uk have just sold me one so I hope they weren't just teasing! I was a bit suspicious that they had them but passporter didn't ....
Was it a preorder? You can buy it now on Amazon here (in the US) too, but it's a preorder, and says: This title has not yet been released. You may pre-order it now and we will deliver it to you when it arrives.

Nope, just double checked, it's a proper open order with estimated delivery date of 13th May! I won't hold my breath though. It says usually available 7-9 days ...
The 2011 books still have yet to go to print so I am pretty sure the Amazon UK ship date of May 13th is not going to happen.
I know (for a fact) that they are finishing up a major part of the book that will be essential for next year's sailings so once those are finished, peer reviewed and edited, they will send the book to print and the online edition will become available! Have faith and patience . . . the book will be well worth it!
I have to admit that I am very disappointed they are fooling around with 2012 stuff that won't even be complete and letting those of us waiting for Alaska info swing in the wind. They're running the risk of losing all the sales connected to the Alaska cruises. And the stuff they adding won't be accurate by next year anyway.

Sorry, but we're not "fooling around" with 2012 information. Every edition we produce looks forward to the following year's itineraries, to the greatest extent we can. People have to make expensive buying decisions, and if we can help, we will. We do not produce the port of call descriptions or guess at shore excursions for the following year, we stick to the current year. Inaccuracy is not an issue, except when we have to speculate over something Disney hasn't announced (like the details of the Disney Dream, which couldn't be known until we were on board).

I don't think they are fooling around with 2012 information, I know that they want to make sure the information they are providing to people is as up to date as possible. I don't think they want to lose Alaska cruise sales but I do think waiting for the 2011 edition is going to be worth it. They also wouldn't release false or inaccurate information for next year, but it does give people something to look forward to, especially considering the Fantasy is going to be so similar to the Dream. Just be patient, it will be worth it. I have never been disappointed with anything that PP has put out. It's worth the wait.
I'm sorry, I didn't mean that the info is inaccurate when put together. But it will be by the time the 2012 cruises go because there is too little info available now. Disney doesn't seem to know what they are doing in any detail so there's no way the Passporter team can. I'm just frustrated that a resource that I love is not becoming available when it would help me and at least one of the reasons given is next year's itineraries. It seems you are trying to do too much and not getting it done as well as you used to. I realize it is hard to keep up with the changes Disney makes and that any book is outdated as soon as it is published. I just wish you had gone with your original, early spring publishing plans.

FWIW Kim, I share your frustration. I'm sailing on the May 29th and feel a bit like you do. I really want the 2011 PP Cruise book, but chances aren't looking good right now to have it in hand by then.
I can see where Dave is coming from tho - they want to have as much info and as accurate info as possible; and even once they do, they are at the mercy of the printer and the shipping lanes. It's kinda out of their hands at that point.
I'm sure it's as frustrating (if not more so) for Dave and Jen to see missed sales, as it is for us to beg for it's release Some of us will still buy the book even if we've already sailed, some of us won't.
But Dave, just keep in mind our whining is because we love your product so much!

It's totally frustrating! I understand the info needs to be accurate but it would be nice to have SOME sort of idea (the month even?) of when it's coming out! I am sure they are working as hard as they can but oh my word - they should have maybe put it out out on time w/an update on the site or something.
This happened with last year's edition, where they were trying to get any amount of info on the Dream & Magic before putting it out, and those of us on the Baltic couldn't get it before sailing. But I think this year, they are being very smart in not giving info on a release date because THEY DON'T YET KNOW WHAT THAT DATE IS. Last year they had pre-orders, and then A LOT of angry people, some who were NOT very nice to Jennifer & Dave on these boards, when the book wasn't ready as originally predicted. I'm sure they feel burned by that - I would if I was in the same shoes.
I am anxious to get the 2011 version, as we'll reach our booking window in 2 weeks. But I know that they can't rush something like this. I cannot imagine how much work goes into each of these books at any time, but especially as Disney is making changes to itineraries, and adding brand new ships.
So Dave & Jennifer, I will continue to be patient, and know that whenever the book is ready, it will be worth the wait!
