Food & Wine Festival/1st Anniversary and Mousetacular Holiday PTRs (UPDATED 6/13) - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

That seems like the sensible option! I hadn’t even thought about that yet. We’re both imagining lazy mornings at OKW and maybe a late night at Jellyrolls. But who knows what will be new or different in 17 months!!
Also, our JetBlue points finally came through yesterday morning, so we booked our flights for our Mousetacular Holiday Trip. We ended up getting quite a good deal, even though prices are ridiculous. (I consider our points ‘free money’ since we pay off the credit card every month.) I love booking flights! Everything seems so much more real when you book the flight!!
I’m going to wait until I’ve had a really bad day at work … then book DME for a little pick-me-up …

A late night at JRs is my favorite!! I might have to come find you. I have a flight down for Mousetacular but not home. Might end up going the points route. I was really spoiled by $69 & $79 each way so $92 isn't thrilling me! Good for you.
Work is finally slowing down after 9 weeks of being too busy for words. On top of the crazy hours, I’ve also had a ton of family functions and weddings to go to. All in all, it’s been crazy lately, and I have been extremely tired.
I haven’t been doing much Disney planning (or much participating in these boards). As a result, not much has changed. Well, I made a couple of little changes today.
For our final morning in October, I had us in Magic Kingdom, but I decided to trade some days … now we’re in Hollywood Studios our final morning, and in Epcot on our Hollywood Studios day. That means only one morning in Magic Kingdom, but that’s okay with me. I was thinking about it, and I’d rather have more time in Epcot to tour Future World, and I’m afraid we won’t do that with all the F&WF activities if I don’t specifically schedule it in there. The only thing we “lose” in this scenario is lunch at The Plaza, but that’s okay. We’ll replace the lunch with Beaches and Cream or another Epcot-area resort eatery.
Other things … we were toying with the idea, thanks to the suggestion of some wonderful folks in our December Planning Facebook group, of adding DDP to part of our stay (which is a perk for DVC members). We (and by ‘we,’ I mean Rob, because I am hopeless with math) did some calculations, and we would definitely save money on our December trip! So we’ll be adding 1 night of Disney Deluxe Dining Plan to our stay to cover dinners at Artist’s Point and Coral Reef. We’ll also use the snack credits to supplement lunch one day and snack credits to supplement breakfast another day.
Unrelated to adding DDP, I also added a reservation for breakfast at the Captain’s Grille one morning during our December trip. This had been on our original list of “to-dos,” but we initially didn’t make any breakfast reservations. So, now we have this one, and we’re very excited about it. Breakfast is our favorite meal!
All of the work and craziness in my life has me dying for a Disney fix. I’m thinking about visiting Tracy (elbodans on these boards) in Orlando for 3 or 4 days while she’s researching her latest project in September. I think it would be fun to go to WDW by myself (read: without Rob) and even more fun to have a girls-only weekend with Tracy. I’ve been looking at the calendar and trying to figure out where I can work it into my work schedule. Stay tuned, because I’m hoping to either book a flight or give up on it by August 1.

Go for it. In the airport now on my way to a solo WDW trip. While I love going with DD, there is something about my solo trips that is extra special.
ok, yes, i answered my own question. you've started a PTR for your anniversary trip. i may even have commented on it before--i definitely read the beginning back when you started it. duh! i haven't been doing a very good job with finishing my own TR. where oh where does the time go???

LOL I love that we're now having this conversation on a social network, a Disney message board and a private e-mail. It is perfect. I think we might actually be separated at birth.

And, as Sandy knows, I took her advice and will be spending four days in WDW with our friend elbodans in September!! I am VERY EXCITED. And you should feel free to sing it from the rooftops. Because everyone who needs to know already knows (my boss and husband both gave me the go-ahead).

So excited for you! The green light on a Mickey trip is always awesome!

First of all, my trip with Tracy (elbodans on these boards) is a go! She’s currently traveling, on a road trip with her husband. When she gets back, she’s off to Disney World to work on her new project (you can read her latest TR to learn a bit more: http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...ip-report.html). I’m going to join her for three and a half days in mid-September. Just us girls!
I’m so so so excited! Tracy provided me with a list of things she needs to research for her project, and I’ve been doing some research—both so we can make the most of our time together and so I can be as helpful as possible. And, of course, I’ve got a project of my own in mind …
I’ve got my plane tickets and booked my town car to her condo. I’m almost totally ready to go!
As I’m researching that trip, I’ve been keeping an eye out for things we might be able to change for our October or December trips … But I’ve only made one change! And it really isn’t even a change … you’ll remember, on our second-to-last day in December, I changed our park from AK to Epcot. But, with that change, we didn’t have any lunch plans! So … we made some! I got a great ADR at Rose and Crown. Rob is thrilled, and I am looking forward to it, as well.
For October, the special event schedules for Food and Wine are out (2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Special Events | the disney food blog). We took some time to go through everything, and we’re going to try to get tickets to the Party of the Senses, which we hope to attend instead of our Anniversary dinner at Narcoossee’s. Party for the Senses will be our anniversary celebration, and I personally can’t think of a better way to celebrate!
We also looked at some of the low cost seminars and classes, but we’ve decided to skip that for this year and just focus on the food booths. We also looked through the food booth menus (2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Marketplace Booths and Menus | the disney food blog), and we’re really, really excited to try some great food and drinks! We’re especially excited about Australia, Ireland, Morocco and Singapore. Yum yum yum!
Work’s about to get really busy again, and it probably won’t let up until it’s time for my trip to visit Tracy. Then there’s two and a half weeks until my cousin’s wedding … then the next weekend is our Food and Wine Trip! Wahoo!
OCTOBER
Not much to report. I keep trying to make changes … but I can’t! Seems like this are perfectly perfect. But I did make two small changes:
First, I traded a post-rope drop breakfast at Sunshine Seasons for pre-rope drop breakfast at Kouzzina in October. We decided it was worth the extra money. Because we LOVE that place! The thought of not going back there for a year made us sad. So … now we’re happy. (If only it were that easy!)
Yesterday, I was able to get Party for the Senses tickets. No problem. So we’re calling that our Anniversary Dinner and canceling Narcoossee’s. We’re super psyched about this. Amazing food and entertainment. I can’t wait to see the Cirque performers again!
Related to this, has anyone ever taken advantage of the reserved seating for the Eat to the Beat show prior to the Party?? Is it worth it? We were hoping for Sister Hazel, but we’re there during Starship. It would still be fun. But nothing either of us is dying to see/hear.
Party for the Senses is on our arrival day, so we expect to be pretty beat. We should arrive in WDW by noon, then we’re going to spend the early afternoon in Animal Kingdom. I had planned to head back to our resort around 5:30/6, so we’d have enough time for a quick, refreshing shower and change of clothes before Party. But, if we plan to attend the concert, we’ll get less time at AK.
Thoughts?
DECEMBER
Nothing much happening on this front. I’m part of an amazing, fun group of December planners on Facebook, and I am enjoying that immensely. I met another couple who is also staying at BW, so we’re going to walk over to the Mousetacular Toy Story breakfast together! Yay for new friends!
Related to this trip, I have a long to-do list to conquer with Member Services at some point in the near future. I need to add DME (I keep saying I am going to do it, then I never get around to it before MS closes). I need to add Disney Dining Plan to one day of our stay. And I think I am going to put us back on the waitlist for Beach Club.
When the waitlist for Boardwalk Villas came through, they took us off the Beach Club waitlist. And I think I want back on. I LOVE the Boardwalk, but I also LOVE the idea of staying at two different resorts in October and December. So we’ll see. If we don’t get it, we are SO HAPPY with what we have.
SEPTEMBER
I’m also gearing up for my trip with Tracy (elbodans on these boards) in LESS THAN FOUR WEEKS.
It’s been really fun planning with Tracy. We ended up each making lists of things we want/need to do while we’re there. I, of course, am a lot more flexible than Tracy, since we’re working on her project while we’re down there. Then, Tracy let me make a first draft of the trip plan while she was on her August road trip. That draft is all done, and we’ve just got to refine it.
I really, really enjoyed making the plan! In the past, I’ve never worked on a plan that was so heavily influenced by someone who wasn’t me (or my husband, who by law is an extension of me … LOL). It was a lot of fun and more like a puzzle than I would have thought. It’s harder when you’re thinking of another person. But that also makes it more fun!
Anyway, I feel really excited about this one. We’re going to spend lots of time touring resorts, eating at counter service spots and exploring. I’ll let Tracy post more details if she wants to.
Isn’t it crazy how quickly you can grow attached to your Disney friends? I feel like Tracy and I have been friends forever, and I can’t wait to spend more time with her.
PIN TRADING
In non-planning news, I’ve decided to start pin trading! My husband can’t stop rolling his eyes, but I think it’ll be fun!
I bought a lanyard, a pouch and 10 pins from eBay. It took me forever to find the exact right lanyard and pouch. I couldn’t believe how particular I was!! I also bought some butterfly-locking pinbacks. So I think I’m all set and don’t plan on losing any darn pins this trip!
In all, I spent about $35. So, if I hate it, I could easily give my pins away to kids and not feel like I wasted too much money. (And yes, I know they’re probably scrappers/counterfeit, but spare me! I’m not looking to amass an amazing collection … I just want to trade with other people who are looking to have fun!)
