I am so Proud of my "running wo-man"... Updated 11/7 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Well we are coming to the end of the season and today was the Interhigh Championships. Her school won both the boys and the girls races for the 26th year in a row. Katie felt her knee "snap" while she was on the course. Her friend from another school passed her and said "no way..." and pushed on. She finished the race and came in 10th out of 45 with a time of 25.52. She told me she cried all the way through the race... I feel so bad. She did jog the cool down lap and walked it at the end. She is doing her homework with a bag of ice on her knee. She says she is fine...it is NOT swollen, just sore. We are going to watch it and she will take it easy. She doesn't race again until next Monday. Hopefully she will feel better by then.
Be careful that she doesn't injure her knee any more. Knee injuries are pretty common in runners, especially if she runs on hard or uneven surfaces. Really well fitting shoes are essential (from a specialized running store initially). MY DD runs road races and half marathons and uses orthotics prescribed by a sports physical therapist. They have made a world of difference in reducing any leg and knee pain.

if I wasn't laughing about it. I am going to rant and rave here...so here I go!!!
RANT ---The Cross country girls ordered sweats and shirts for their team. It's going to cost us $106.00 and then afterwards the girls are going to do some fundraising and we will be re-imbursed for part of the money. I have no problem with this. I think it's fantastic. One of the mothers' is complaining that the parents had no input for this. If you read my thread "was I wrong..."about the cross country incident then you have figured out which mother to whom I am referring...anyway...so are we going to wear these clothes? NO! Then why is she complaining? Yes it is a lot of money because they are going through NIKE, but really with the fundraising they have planned it will cost us about half that and the price also includes a canopy for the team for invitational meets and something for the coach as a gift for the end of the season. Get over it!!!
RAVE---I just picked Katie up from practice. Those of you have been following along know that since her first race has been getting better and better and her times have been personal best times after every single race. She informed me that "some" of the girls have started complaining to the coach (Murph) that it is unfair for Katie to have gotten into Districts because she is a freshman. They also are complaining that just yesterday, she walked part of the course and still PR'd (personal record). Some of these girls are the ones that she past after the second race and never looked back. He told the girls to get over it and just because she is a freshman it has no bearing on his decision. She is a freshman doing an awesome job. After he spoke to the girls (Katie wasn't there for the conversation, he had her go do something else), he told her he is very proud of her, and that most of them would not have made districts anyway. She is much faster than them and that they are just jealous!!!! I mean really!!!! Is this how it's going to be?? Katie is already nervous enough that Murph wants her to run the varsity races next year instead of the JV races. Wait til the other girls catch wind of that!!! So I've already told my DH and he this this is hysterical. They are complaining because Katie is better than them!!! Well the kid has found her niche and I'm still going to tell her to do her best!!! I'm just going to say it LOUDER!!!!!
Go get 'em!!!
PS-I read this to Katie before I posted it. She said now it will make her try all that much harder. These are her words--"legit... Now I am just going to go out there and do better and shove it their faces. I'll let me feet do the talking!!!!"

I was a swimmer. The beauty about swimming and running is that they are not sports that are judeged but rather timed. The stop watches don't lie. The girls are jealous but they really can't complain because the stop watches don't pick favorites to win. I must say I was very lucky and the upper classmen realized that I wasn't their enemy in the pool, but rather a teammate who added points to the team total with my results.
No one should have a problem with your daughter running varsity if she makes the time how can anyone argue with that. As far as walking a part of it they almost have to sometimes if they are having pain problems or if the course is steep or muddy in spots. Sounds like she is doing great!! From one cross country mother to another enjoy the meets, we have traveled to some very pretty places watching our son run cross country.
Sore Knee???? What Sore Knee? I was worried Katie wouldn't be able to run Tuesday on her meet. I should have known better. She finished 13th out of 43 with another personal record of 24.43. And she fell again....this time she fell sideways so she wouldn't land on her knee...it turns out as most of the girls were coming off their 2nd mile, they would show us their dirty hands...falling was the theme for the day. Anyway, another great day. The season is coming to a close and Katie has an invitational on Saturday.
The season has come to a close. Yesterday was the final meet at Wrentham. It was the Coaches Invitational and there were 3,985 runners. Katie's race was near the end and she did well. She fell again. This time she finished 70th out of 140 with a time of 14.25 minutes. So she picked up 18 places and 1.21 minutes ahead of the first time she ran here.
It seems to have come with a price. When I saw her after the race, I saw her crying hysterically. She twisted her knee again. When we got home (she had to come home on the bus), we brought her to the hospital even though she said she was feeling better. The Dr. recommended a sports medicine doctor to do an MRI. She thought (from her own experience) that it may be a torn miniscus. So they gave her a brace to wear which she is crying about. She says that she has to speed walk to all her classes to get there on time (there get 3 minutes) and she will be late. I told her I would write her a note or something. Anyway, tomorrow I call this Dr. and we will see what happens. Kate's upset, obviously, because she wants to start indoor track in 2 weeks and we might be doing physical therapy instead.
