Trip Report: Our First WDW Family Trip COMPLETED 11/6 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

How cool, you can so see that your little one loves the princesses. I think that is awesome. My DD proclaimed that she is not into princesses anymore (almost 8) But when I said, oh I guess I'll just cancel our Akershus breakfast she changed her mind!
That is funny. I will remember that 5 years from now when Abby decides that she is not into princesses anymore!!!

Sounds like you're having so much fun! Sorry to hear about the service at CRT I've heard many rumors that they are rushed most times. The princess interactions all looked great! I know Ava will be so excited to see them. Can't wait to hear more!
I took that picture while Scott was riding Test Track. I went next and when I came out they were sitting on a bench where the riders exit and she was sound asleep covered with a Minnie bath towel that we bought to dry off after the rains.
That's when we realized we had been in the parks for 13 hours and it was time to go!
What an incredible day -- park hopping to three parks! the pictures with Cinderella and the other princesses at CRT! Of course, you have to stop for the Fairy Godmother. Glad my TR gave you some great tips -- that one of the fringe benefits of reading everyone else's reports as you find out all kinds of cool information.
Just found your TR and am enjoying it so much. Your daughter is just adorable. Love seeing her with all the princesses, those pictures are wonderful. Glad she is having such a great time and lasting through such full days. Can't wait to hear more.
Sorry it has been a while since I updated. It has been a crazy week!!
I guess it was the thirteen hour day that we had before, but on this day it was extra hard to get out of bed. We had decided to do the morning EMH at Animal Kingdom to get a few more things in that we hadn’t done yet. We arrived right at park opening and I told Scott that I really wanted to ride Expedition Everest if he didn’t mind keeping Abby busy while waiting for me. (did I mentioned that he doesn’t like roller coasters) I walked up to the single rider line which had a 30 minute wait posted but I really only waited about 20 minutes. I was in the second row. I really enjoyed this ride. It was my first roller coaster at WDW and it was a much smoother ride than I had expected. Once I was off, I easily spotted Abby and Scott as they were sitting near the ride exit. From there we decided to walk over to the Finding Nemo Musical area to make sure we knew where we would be going. The app on my phone showed that the first show was at 11:30 but luckily there was a show starting at 10:30. We had no wait and just walked right in. The show really good and we all enjoyed it.
From Nemo we headed over to Dinoland. We tried Triceratops Spin and Abby enjoyed that ride.
Next we stopped for a quick pic in the car.
Then Scott wanted to try Its tough to be a bug. (I had originally thought that we would skip this on but many of Scott’s co-workers told him it was good and so he wanted to try it) We only had to wait about 5 minutes for the doors to open and we could get a seat. Abby was excited as she generally likes bugs
but as you can see this picture
she was not impressed at all.
The excitement wore off right after the termite sprayed and the lights went out. From that point on she could not relax and was crying a good bit so we exited. Luckily there were a few other dads leaving as well so I didn’t feel like the only bad parent in the park that day!!!!
She was still a little upset so we decided that a corn dog would help her feel better.
It didn’t last long and all that was left was a chewed on stick.
After ITTBAB and the corn dog we tried Rafikki’s Planet watch. Here is Abby riding on the choochooooooo train.
The park seemed extra hot today and so we said our goodbyes to AK and went over to DHS for a few missed attractions there.
First up was The Journey of the Little Mermaid, which was great. From there we watched Beauty and the Beast again. Abby loved it both times but I thought the second pic below that Scott took pretty much summed up how she felt about Gaston!!
(I had decided to video it the first time and after holding my arm still for 30 minutes I realized at the end that I hadn’t pressed the record button all the way down and the darn thing never recorded.) So we went back so I could get it for Abby as I knew she would really love to watch it at home.) This video came out fine (luckily because I wasn’t going to do it a third time).
We decided that we all needed to rest a little while at the resort because of our long day the day before and since we were having dinner with Scott’s niece that evening.
We got back, showered and all slept. (good thing we set a clock because we just might have slept through our dinner date!)
Our plans were to meet Scott’s niece Micki in Celebration. (she had just moved down there about 1 month prior to start a new job). We called when we got into Celebration but she wasn’t answering her phone so we drove around for a good bit. How can I describe Celebration for those of you who have never gone? Have any of you ever seen the Truman Show? It’s pretty much just like that. Scott and I were really impressed with this town. If you ever have time and a vehicle while you are down there you gotta check this place out. There were many options for dinner but we all decided on a cute little Thai restaurant. I got the yellow curry (YUM!), Scott and Micki got some kind of mixed vegetable dish and Abby got the chicken nuggets. We all enjoyed our dinner. We left the restaurant stuffed so we walked a little while and did some window shopping.
On our way back to the resort, I took this picture and thought it was cool:
Once we got back to the room we were all very full and tired so we went right to bed.
Up next: Day 5 Our last day at WDW and Lunch with the Mouse!

On this day, we were up early again and had decided we would try to see the opening ceremony at Magic Kingdom again. We arrived right at 7:30 and waited for the ceremony. This time we stood right in front of the station rather than off to the left at the park entrance. I was able to get a few good pics and enjoyed it as much as the first time.
Once in the park, we headed over to Tomorrowland as I had decided I wanted to ride Space Mountain. While I was riding this, Scott and Abby rode the People Mover one more time. The single rider line showed a 15 minute wait but I was able to walk right onto the ride. I had read a little about this ride and was a little nervous but I felt that as long as I wasn’t in the front of the car, I would be OK. Well that idea quickly fell through because as I walked up, the CM pointed to my spot and then I realized that I was in fact going to be in the front of the ride. How can I describe my experience with Space Mountain? I am glad I rode it but won’t be running over to ride it again in the future. If this is something that Abby wants to do when she is older, I would do it with her but for now I am good with skipping this ride.
From Space Mountain, we rode the AstroOrbiter.
It was fun and neat to be so high up and be able to see the park from this angle. I was able to get this picture of Abby and Scott and was excited to see that the castle was in the background of it.
After this ride, Abby wanted to ride Buzz Lightyear again and surprisingly Abby and I beat Scott!!!
We felt that we had done all of what we wanted to do in Tomorrowland for that day so we left to go to Adventureland. On the way over we stopped for a quick picture in front of the Mickey and Minnie Topiary.
As we walked up to the Magic Carpet ride we saw a photo pass photographer and a very short line. That is when I realized this was a character spot for Jasmine and Aladdin. We were second in line and the photographer told us they would be out any minute, but that they would ride the carpets first (which they did)
The interactions with Jasmine and Aladdin were really good. Abby’s dress had an A monogrammed on it and they were trying to figure out if the A was for Aladdin or Abu (it was funny but slightly over Abby’s head).
When we finished with them, we headed over to the CBJ. This was my first time at this attraction (and probably the last). Scott was excited to see it, as he had seen it long ago as a child but for me I just could not get into it and neither did Abby.
It was now coming up on 10:30 (our ADRs were for 12:30) and we were all a little hungry, so we sat and got corn dogs for everyone and once we were finished with those we all felt better and ready for more.
We headed over to the Jungle Cruise and again Scott was really excited for this one as it was something he remembered from his trip as a child. We all really liked this one, although our skipper was just OK.
As we were heading out of Adventureland, I noticed a long line of people and then realized it was Ariel and Eric but Abby wasn’t that interested in waiting to meet them (she had met Ariel at Akershus already) so we continued on. As we got to the center of the park, we noticed that the Move It, Celebrate parade had started. Luckily the spot that we walked up to was not that full of people and it was near Woody and Jessie’s float had stopped. Once we were invited to the party, we scooted over to get closer to Jessie. Abby was so excited to be able to be so close and dance with Jessie. Scott got all of this on video and I was able to get a bunch of cool pics.
Once the characters got back on the floats, I photo pass photographer came up to me and handed me a card. I wasn’t sure what was on it but I figured he had been taking pics of us during the dance party. I told Scott that we would find the photo place because I was really interested to see what pics he had gotten.
After this, we headed over to Tiana’s garden as we knew that she would be back out soon. We were about the 10th or so people in line and made a few friends while waiting. We made it to the point where there was one family in front of us and of course Abby had to go potty. The ladies in front of us insisted we go ahead of them and I thanked them for that!!
The character interaction was really good with them. When were about to walk away I made Abby tell Tiana where we were from (Louisiana) and she was super excited to know this and said, “that is home for us”. Her accent was pretty good for a Southern Louisiana/New Orleans accent so I am still not sure if she was truly from there or just really good at the accent.
After this, we headed to the bathrooms near Crystal Palace and then walked to the front of the park to catch the monorail. This was another first for Abby and I and we were both very excited to ride.
We arrived right around 12:15 and were brought over to take our picture with the plate and then seated shortly after.
The food was really good, as was the service and the character interactions. It was at this point in our trip that Abby began to run up to the characters and initiate a hug and was all smiles. (if only we would have had a few more days in the parks!!)
After lunch, we took the Monorail back to MK and walked up to the castle where the Dream Along with Mickey show was about to start. I thought the show was really good and we all enjoyed it.
Then we headed to Fantasyland for a few more attractions one more time: Pooh, the Carousel and Storytime with Belle (which Abby really enjoyed)
After Story time with Belle we caught the end of the Dream come true parade (Abby was a little disappointed that we missed most of it but it is on my to do list for our next trip).
We had decided that we were ready to go and so our last stop was to ride the MK train. As you can see in the picture, Abby was really excited to ride the train but once the train started to move, it was off to dreamland.
We headed back to the resort to wash, pack up and relax.
Up next, Day 6: Heading to the beach!!

What a wonderful day at MK! You all managed so many and magical adventures without seeming the list bit rushed. Love the pics of Abby with the Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It characters. How great to have a PP photographer capture it for you as well. Abby looks so happy in all your photos on this day!
Sounds like your MK day was perfect. I love all the character interactions. She seems so comfortable with all of them. Her smile is so beautiful. Can't wait for more.
