Don't Stop - the Pocono mountains section COMPLETED - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Saturday 26 December – part five: I never knew that version of that song! :
Then we found an organ concert going on in a neighbouring room, so we sat there and watched that, which included a ballet performance, singing along to some of the carols and Christmas songs, although Sue and Steve seemed to know a few different versions, which made us hysterical. After we heard their version of Walking in a Winter Wonderland, there was no way I could sing any more of that. That tune will never be the same for me again, let’s just say.
We headed out of the concert room and got some final photos on the way out of the Conservatory.
Then it was time to head over to dinner at 1906, the restaurant at Longwood Gardens. We had a reservation there for 7.30 and later discovered that was the last possible time that we could have got in there.
We were seated near the big Christmas tree outside, so Mark got our server Ashley to take some photos of us, with that behind us, while Steve had her videoing the auspicious occasion as well. She was excellent and got a very good tip for her work.
”Now what do I fancy on this menu? You didn’t move quickly enough Sue... One-eye back in action... The bread on the table.... ... and Mark finds a good use for it! Cheers! Who thinks Steve likes his?
We all passed on appetisers and went for entrees instead. I had the sweet potato gnocchi gratin, while Mark had the halibut, which was a special on the menu. Mine was superb, but there was far too much of it and I just couldn’t finish it.
Out of all of us, only Steve went for dessert and got butter pecan ice cream, which he seemed to enjoy.
And who thinks Sue enjoyed the ice cream?
We had already decided that, as we had booked this restaurant, we would pay for it. After all, it had been our request to come to Longwood Gardens. Sue and Steve did protest, but fortunately I had roped Ashley in to help me, although she did bring the bill by accident to the table, which she was mortified about when she realised what she had done. It was fine with me. It’s easy to make a mistake and she had been so good with everything else during the meal. We had had such a great time with great friends. It had been a wonderful first night with Sue and Steve.

We headed out and back into the park and took some more photos outside.
We slowly walked back to the visitor centre, getting lots more photos on the way. Sadly, by now, it was too late for the fountains, but it had been a great evening, even without seeing those. By now, the rain had stopped. It was a shame that it couldn’t have done that earlier.
I got some fridge magnets in the shop there and then it was back to the car.
We drove back to the hotel and I have nothing but admiration for Sue driving in the fog that we had. At times, you couldn’t see the road ahead of you and, as far as I know, it wasn’t a route that was familiar with. I was falling asleep as we drove back, so I was very relieved to get back to the hotel and head back to the room.
The weather today was wet with a lot of rain in the evening and temperatures in the high 30s. The best thing today was Longwood Gardens. The worst thing today was the weather. The funniest thing today was just about everything with Sue and Steve! Today we tried going to Bahama Breeze And the result was it was a really good meal and a lovely atmosphere. The most magical moment today was seeing Sue and Steve.
I just caught up and now need to take a holiday trip to Longwood Gardens. I think the poinsetta beds are unreal. As to your comment that Disney could learn something, my concern would be that if they were done at Disney, someone would step in the middle of them to do a family photo. As much as I love Disney, I dislike the lack of respect for the property and find it difficult to deal with. I have never been to a place where ropes and barriers seem to have little meaning to many. I suspect no one was stepping in the plants there.

We love Longwood Gardens. It's only about 45 minutes from our house, and during Christmas time it is soooo beautiful. My favorite part is the conservatory. It's just amazing what they do with the place.
We've never eaten at the restaurant, but after seeing the meal, we may have to try it out !
I think I said this before but stunning photo's. on Sue's driving.

We got going slowly today and got a text message from Sue about 9.00, saying “good morning”. We said that we’d be ready by about 9.45, but a few minutes before that, we got a knock on the connecting doors between us, asking if we were descent. Let’s just say I was, but Mark wasn’t quite yet and, of course what did Steve have in his hands? You got it – the video camera. Too funny!
We spend some time trying to work out where to go for breakfast. We didn’t fancy paying the price that the hotel were asking for, so we got the car loaded up, which was quite a task, with everything we had with us. Somehow though, the guys managed to do a better job than the guy at the airport, with everything in the trunk, instead of bits on the back seat.
A little bit of luggage... Does this man look awake to you? One-eyed Sue Making sure the Eeyores could see out as we were driving! “I want breakfast!”
Mark suggest using Garmin to find somewhere for breakfast and Steve managed to find a place called Christine’s family restaurant that sounded promising, so off we went. When we got there, it was like a typical diner that you imagine and inside, it was just like a little family run place and you got the impression that all the people there were regulars. I felt quite odd walking in with my camera, but I did still take some shots in there.
We all went for the buffet, which was only $7.95. It had bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, corned beef hash, waffles, pancakes and French toast and I went for the last three first, all with syrup and strawberry sauce.
I also had some cereal and asked for some milk to go with it. Guess what I ended up with? A whole pint glass of the stuff! I knew that I would end up spilling it, so I got Mark to pour it for me and he did a great job with it.
There was also fresh fruit of pineapple, grapes and melon. It was really great value and thank you very much to Sue and Steve who paid for it. It was a lovely start to the day.
