A dream come true part deux -Pre-trip report - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Okay! who else starts to check Disney Worlds weather as soon as it hit the 10 day out mark?? Need a show of hands here.. Or am I the only obsessive one??
I never knew you could type Disney World in the weather.com box & get specific weather for the world.. pretty
Yes, I know I was only able to see our first days weather ~ 76 & few showers it was still sooo cool.. I know it will change a ton in the next 9 days & even down there daily it changes due to Floridas unpredictable weather it's still fun to do before a trip..
Hand up! I do it, I check historical weather before the 10 day mark and at 10 days out, I start checking the actual weather predictions almost daily before our trip.... So your not alone!

I love that you can type in Disney World and see the weather! It is great that they added it. I hope you have a great trip and enjoy seeing your sons march on Main St!

I definitely check the weather for 10 days before the trip, but I even check it throughout the year just to see what it's like in our home away from home.
Today's 'dilemma' is should we or shouldn't we pre-order the photopass CD? I got the $50 off e-mail this afternoon & have been debating it ever since.
Shelby really wants to (she's a born ham & most of the photos from our last trip were of her) & I do think I want to as well.. just to have some shots of all of us but then I think the boys wont be with us & I won't feel 'right' with them not being in the photos.. Why can't I ever make a simple decision??
what are your thoughts on it? worth the $$$$. any good/bad experiences to share ??
We have gotten the CD the past 4 trips and we have always been pleased. It gives me lots of pictures with all three of us for scrapbooking and then I have probably around 20 frames that I change out with each new trip, so this saves me lots of money as I order from Walgreens.
We got the CD the last trip! We only had about 30 pictures, as it was during TS Fay (5 days pouring rain) and PP photogs were hard to find (and usually not out in the rain). But, I turned them into 300+ with all the backgrounds, and got a photobook on Shutterfly with all of them, so it was definitely worth it!
Our first trip in 08 we go the cd and got tons of pictures- totally worth the money. Our Thanksgiving trip in 09 we didn't get near as many pics and the ones we got were not all great, so we kinda got our money's worth. Our most recent trip was super short and only two of us, so I knew I wasn't getting the cd. It was kinda a relief to not hunt down and wait in line for PP photographers for a change. The only down fall is I have only a few shots of the two of us together...... I think next time, I'm not doing the cd either, but maybe be a little braver and occasionally ask a stranger to take a group shot of us.....

I thought all day about the CD & I DO think I'm going to get it.. I was worried of having no shots of the boys but I'm thinking if I tell them to approach photopass photographers then I can add their cards with mine & get some nice pics out of it..
Didn't do too much Disney-wise today.. I got a bee in my bonnet that I *HAD* to go to half price books today to look for a specific book.. well, me & books= heaven! I think I spent almost 2 hours just wandering up & down each section. got several cool books that I can't wait to read.. One book specifically for the plane ride to Disney .. Dave Barry's book of Bad songs . A friend recommended it to me & it looks hilarious.
We then ran into Wal Mart & bought TSA locks for everyones suitcases.. Why is it that every trip I can't find the locks & have to buy new ones. While at Wal Mart I was so tempted to buy the colorful 'saying's luggage tags they have . My favorite was "I come with lots of baggage" They were cute but not practical so I passed .
After that Brendan had a track meet scrimmage that seemed to last forever.. Rushed home, made some reuben sandwiches & then ran to Pet Smart to get my parrot, Polly some new food bowls.. My sister in law is going to check in on him but I kinda wanted him to have larger bowls 'just in case' Polly isn't sure about the big water bowl & I'm hoping he doesn't mistake it for a bird bath ( he loves to take baths)
Jamie & Brendan had to have their band gear at school today so that's one less thing to worry about.. I do want to pack an extra mouthpiece in their suitcase 'just in case' . remembering when Jamie was a freshman & lost his mouth piece in his very first parade http://www.passporterboards.com/foru...ing-jamie.html
I still haven't booked super shuttle yet.. that is DEFINITELY on my 'to do' list for tomorrow along with finishing packing..
oh.. almost forgot.. I put my old tennis shoes on this afternoon & while I was sitting at the track meet my foot felt wierd, I look down & there is a hole in the toe seam of the shoe. I came home & put them in the suitcase.. will wear them to AK & ride Kali River Rapids .. this way my new shoes wont get wet & I can just throw my old ones away at WDW. I didn't really want to wear sandals to AK now i've got my old tennies for that.
You can definitely add other cards on (as long as no one loads them on separately). I tried to explain this to my DSis, but they uploaded their card to the Photopass site and so I couldn't add it to mine.
