As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Monday 14 December – part seven: it just came away from the wall
Once we were done with photos, we went back to the lobby.
Mark had suggested going out shopping, but I was starting to get hungry, so we checked out the menu for both the Green Cabin Lounge and Shutters. The Green Cabin Lounge didn’t have much on offer, while we liked the look of Shutters, so that was our decision made. We had hoped to go to Sonya’s, but apparently it’s now only open from Thursday to Sunday, which is a shame, as we had such a good meal there last time we were here.
We were quickly seated and I took the opportunity to take some photos of the great theming in here, with one of the cooks actually posing for me.
I got myself a very nice FAB – don’t ask me what it was, as I didn’t note it down and really have no recollection now. It looks nice and I remember it tasting good too.
The minute our server Carol told us that their local fish of the day was scallops, I was sold, as I love these. It got better when she said that I could have a butternut squash sauce to go with it and two choices of side vegetables, including plantain and corned spinach. Oh my, all my favourites in one go!
For appetiser, I had the crab cakes, after debating between them and the lobster and corn beignets. Mark went for those and I definitely did the right thing, going for the crab cakes, as the beignets tasted a bit greasy to me. The crab cakes were beautiful.
My scallops were excellent, but sadly I just could not finish them. Every bit was perfect, but it was just too much for me.
Mark had the half roasted chicken, which was a bit red inside. Sadly, I can’t show you that, as he didn’t manage to get a photo of it.
Our server wasn’t great. She was friendly enough, but when we have to ask for drinks refills twice, to me, that’s not on, especially as it wasn’t that busy in the place.

Done with dinner, we tried to get our road trip itinerary printed out, which I had stupidly managed not to do before I left home, but we were told to come back in the morning and talk to the IT guy, which was fair enough.
From there, it was back to the room for what we thought would be a nice quiet night in. It didn’t work out like that though...
I went to pull the drapes and I’m not exactly strong, so it wasn’t my fault, but before I knew it, the drapes had collapsed in front of me. The right end just literally came out of the wall. I was staggered and knew Mark was behind me. For what seemed like hours, but was only seconds, I stood there, holding the thing and then lowered it to the floor. I was so shocked and couldn’t believe what had just happened. Surely if this had happened to me, it could easily happen to anyone, even a child? It was worrying. For the next few minutes, I veered between hysterical laughter at the whole situation and realisation of how serious it could’ve been.

I called front desk and she listened in disbelief, as I told her what had happened. She eventually asked me to repeat what I had said. She said that someone would be along. Someone was and the guy Bill turned up a few minutes later. When we opened the door and he saw what had happened, his eyes literally came out on stalks. He couldn’t believe it.
He inspected it and agreed with Mark’s observation that it hadn’t been fixed in properly, which was really concerning. He told us that it had all been replaced last year, as part of the refurbishment of the rooms. He also told us that the contractors had done the job very quickly. In his words, he didn’t know how they’d done it that fast. Maybe now they know.... I hope they do a wholesale check of all the drapes now. I would really hate that to happen to anyone else.
The guy looked at what had happened and said very quickly that it would take him at least an hour to fix it, so he called front desk and got us another room. Fortunately, it was the one next door, as we had been in the midst of arranging our cases. Having to go through three every day to find what we wanted each day was doing my head in and, with us being on a road trip for the next few days, I wanted to reduce that. By the time we were done, everything we would need for the next few days was in our blue case and one side of our grey case. Much better than having to deal with cases every day.
We pulled everything back into the cases from all over the bed, which is where it was lying and, with the help of a Cast Member, we got it all moved next door. After that excitement, unsurprisingly, we were pretty tired, so we repacked the cases and then it was off to bed. It had been quite an eventful day!
The weather today was hot and sunny with temperatures in the 80s. The best thing today was exploring Vero Beach. The worst thing today was the drapes falling down. The funniest thing today was the drapes falling down. Today we tried going on safari in the fog And the result was it made for some interesting shots. The most magical moment today was seeing the beach at Vero, with everything restored, such a lovely improvement from all the hurricane damage we saw the last time we were here.
Wow! I cannot believe that the drapes just collapsed on top of you! I would have been shocked and then fallen down laughing! I do hope that they are checking the rest of the rooms! I hope that the next day went okay--your lead in does not sound promising!
Dang girl, I knew you were strong but I didn't realize you did THAT much damage!! Oh those poor owners at VB! Their dues are gonna go up now for sure!!
Okay, supper looked amazing! I LOVE scallops! I can't wait for sunrise photos!
Loved all your pictures Cheryl! I've been to the Vero Beach Resort several times but never stayed there. My parents have a home not far from there so whenever we visit with them, we take a drive over to the resort to feel the Disney bubble That was quite some story about the drapes! I'm glad you weren't hurt throughout all that! Looking forward to more.

We ate at Shutters a few times during our last visit and I gotta say that while the food was really good, the service left to be desired each and every time
I can't believe the drapes just fell out of the wall. Just like that. Holy cow!! That is poor workmanship. I really hope you're right and they checked all of them! Well, at least you enjoyed your meal despite the poor service. Pretty busy day you had, I'd be tired too!!

Thanks for the wonderful overview at VB! I went to dinner down there one evening when I was in the area for a workshop - it was pretty good (if memory serves, I had the crab cakes too!). I think that Chris and I need to use some of our DVC points and head down there for a weekend after we get home from our honeymoon!!
Obviously you had a strong reaction to your spinach!!! (Like a Popeye reaction)!
That's exactly what you thought it was - people catching the waves. It was about the first real sign of life that we saw there.
Ha! Love it! Glenn didn't think that they were people. He thought it was birds. That would be some pretty big birds so then my next thought was sharks. I've been away from the beach too long. 32 years in fact.

Too funny about the drapes. The reactions of the various CM's is pretty funny too. Glad you weren't seriously damaged.
