Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

The flashers-(No! Not what you're thinking...shame on you!
You thought it first, not us

Here's a couple I came up with (although they're found everywhere)

Continual shoppers: They wait in line ahead of you and every too minutes, someone runs up and I hear something like "No, not that one, the other one. Do I have to get out of line and find it myself?" Yes, please do and let those of us who are done shopping actually get to the register Or I'll hear "no you're not getting that. Pick something else."

Receipt readers: These can be found at CS restaurants or gift shops. Instead of watching the register as things are being rung in, the ignore them and then pay. Once they get their receipts, this is when the hold up everyone behind them by reading line by line every single item then asking the CM about every single price charged. It worse at gift shops because the questions are usually followed by every single item being pulled out of the now packed bags only for the shopper to learn that the price they're complaining about is what the item is actually marked. Sometimes these receipt readers go away unhappy, other times, they hold up the line even longer by deciding to return an item because they "didn't realize that was the actual price."

The Totem-Poles : these are the dads (and moms) during parades and fireworks who decide they need to get their youngester up high so they can see, forgetting that the people standing behind them now have the same problem.

Works fine if they stand in the back, but then dad/mom can't see either - so they work their way through the crowd and up to the front. (I have a few photos of the Totem-Poles from my trip...)

This thread was mentioned in the Vacationing Your Way: Your Special Needs Forum. I thought I would dig it out of the archives and bump it to the front so it can be found again.

Maybe there are some new Not So Magical Cast members that need to be added.

The Mentally Challenged- Those that will walk up to you and ask you where a ride is when they are standing in front of it. when you point it out to them, then they ask you if the line is always that long( I usualy reply if you come back after the park closes its not that long).

All right Donavyn! Be nice! LOl!

I have to mention this one:
The "Not another ECVers" They tend to say something like "I take up less room than your ECV/ Wheel chair, so I should get to get on the bus first. There should be a special bus for people like you and your parties". Hello! There is. It's the one with a handicapp spot to hold the ECV/ Wheel Chair.

The Conversationalist: This person gets on a riding attraction like POTC or LWTL and chats throughout the whole thing about something that is going on at home or with some friend or family member.

as annoying and attraction ruining as The narrator This person gets on a ride and points out everything loudly for the others in their party. Oh Look at the goat, look at the dancing singing kid, look at the monkey.
This is a great thread.....

the CRAMMER ...

You know these folks. They are the ones that insist on cramming on to buses, monorail cars, elevators ...

Oh, surely we should squish so their family of six, with a grandma who needs to sit down, a double stroller, huge backpacks and the like can get on! Meanwhile, my DH has balanced our stroller on his head, has one sleeping child over his shoulder, and DS and I have just contorted ourselves into a pretzel while hovering over the nice family who has given us an additional inch of room. Did I mention that the guy next to me has BO? Oh, well that would be another not so magical moment now wouldn't it!?!?!?

Emily - LOL! I always wonder about the "over dressers"! My feet hurt after a day in the parks wearing sneakers. I can't imagine what they would feel like after wearing 3 inch heels. (maybe I should try it!)

The Fair-Goers: Those that complain "it's not fair" that 'the people in wheelchairs get to go first' - uh, they don't, usually, they just wait in a different line, 'it's not fair that I just asked for a table for 4, and you said you didn't have any, but that family of 6 just walked up and you said it'd be 10 minutes' - because, unlike you, I called/e-mailed months ago and ASKED for this time, this restaurant, this park!, 'it's not fair they get to sit in a special spot for ______' - yeah, because my kid gets the thrill and privilege of never being able to stand up and walk around your kid (who is probably on your shoulder, obstructing our view).
The Fair-Goers are many, and found in every park and every resort. They must be stopped on sight.

The Paid-A-Lots: there are two breeds of this tourist family:
1. Those who did pay a lot, and believe that as a result, they deserve way better service than you (even if you paid just as much or more to be there)
2. Those who complain about how much this is costing them, as opposed to the amount of fun mom and dad are having listening to little Jack and Jill cry because mom and dad can't understand that a tired child is a CRANKY Disney visitor (as in "I paid a LOT for this trip, and by God, we're going to have fun, now stop your crying!")

I put this in the Special Needs not so magical cast thread for those of us needing wheels, but I suppose it could also apply to those who push strollers

The Elevator Jumpers - in their rush to try and get on an elevator in front of you (when you've been there patiently waiting) they impede the progress of those trying to get off. Once everyone is on the elevator, they turn into the cornerstones. They try to stand as far away from the scooter or wheelchair rider in fear they are going to be hit or run over when they should have just waited for the next elevator (or used the stairs or escalator like in The Land or The Living Seas).

To be fair, some of us need glasses, and can't afford to replace ours if they get flung off our face mid-ride; thus, I don't bring mine into the parks. I'm fine for walking around, and get me within 10-15 feet of the menu and I can read it well enough ... but often, the register IS fifteen feet away from it.

I still try to have a decent idea what I probably want by the time it's my turn to order, but sometimes I need an extra minute or two to make sure I really DID interpret the strange blurry little shapes correctly, from ten feet further away that I can normally read things at.
