This is why I don't like to tell people when I am going to Disney World - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

OH I SO KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN ....i havent got children and people always say ..... isnt that for kids??!!! it makes me soooo angry!
Or - potentially even worse - they don't say anything but give you a funny look, like "you're 28 with no kids and you've been three times in the last three years, why could you possibly want to go again - perhaps you are a bit lacking in something upstairs?" but they daren't say it to your face.
I'm not shy about telling most people where we're going - most people know that I'm a Disney nut and that DH likes his dose of sunshine and Americana (what I don't tell them is about all the obsessive planning and itinerary making I do!), however I must admit that when we booked our third/last trip (Feb last year...OH SO LONG AGO!! ) I was a bit apprehensive about telling our parents.
Mine because they are pretty frugal and though they like theme parks, don't really feel the Disney magic so don't really get why we like to go back repeatedly instead of 'broadening our horizons'...and his because his brother lives in Australia and they think we should be saving to go visit before his Visa is up and he has to come back to the UK. My argument is always "but the plane ticket to Sydney ALONE costs almost as much as a whole week at Disney!". And so far that has been a successful route to side-stepping that whole conversation, because it's true. I freely acknowledge that I'd love to broaden my horizons and travel all over the world (I'm currently yearning to explore the whole New England area for example), but till I win the lottery I would prefer to spend my hard-earned pennies on something I KNOW we will both 100% enjoy (his list of 'to-do' destinations is not as long or varied as mine).
After seeing almost the same photos from three separate trips, I will probably spare my poor friends at work the album from our next trip (positive thinking - THERE WILL BE A 'NEXT TRIP'!) as the photos will most likely be very similar to all the previous ones and there's only so many time I can expect them to feign interest!!

I totally understand! My parents especially give it to me because they think it is so expensive to go there! They forget I can get discounts and it ends up being reasonable. Hang in there and know that we are here for you and we are happy for you!

It's so great to have such a wonderful group of people that have the samething in common, disney. We can talk about it here all we want and no one says your going again??
It's funny you mention the way other people react-we're having that in home celebration and I love all the disney stuff so much that I don't want to give it away because I know the ones coming won't appreciate it say as much as passporters.. I know that's selfish but it's true they will just shove it in a drawer or throw it away.
I know what you mean! I'm going there to celebrate my birthday this year, and my family said, aren't you a little old for that? what are they thinking? noone is ever too old to enjoy Disney magic!

I got my first taste of this today. We went last Sept. and are going again in August....and today at Easter dinner my Mom mentioned our trip and another family member put down her fork and said,"AGAIN"! When we said yes...we loved it so much and we really felt like it was a wonderful family experience for us and we truly feel that we became closer while we were there and that we all were pining to go back...including DH that was very hesitant to go in the first place....she looked at me like I had 2 heads and said..."Whatever...I would want to explore other places first!!! Mind you when this woman got married they came home from their honeymoon 2 days early because they were "bored"! I told DH that I felt like I had been slapped....I work my butt off and I will do what I want to do!!! I am pretty sure she is the crazy one!!!
I don't frown at my brother in law when he goes to sturgis AGAIN each year, so when he scowled at hubby when he said we were going to WDW this year I could have clobbered him, but instead smiled and reminded him of his drunken visits to sturgis every year for the last 5 years!!
I got this at work when we went on three trips that were pretty close together. Then we skipped these last years and are finally going back. I got it the other day from one person who couldn't understand why childless adults would go and go more than once.
I asked if they had ever been and they had with their kids. I looked at her with extreme pity and said, "Oh, so you didn't get to do all the adult stuff, huh? So sorry you missed out on all the wonderful 5 course dinners, wine and wonderful adult fun."
I then told her if she ever wanted to go back and really experience the deeper side of the spas, food, wine and the adult rides and fun that she missed out on, I would be so happy to give her information. By the end of the conversation she totally thought she missed out on all the "good stuff" on her trip.
