Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Hoping the sickness does not come back to get you...We got it [Stomach Bug] from Catalina Eddie's our last night at DHS

On the *tiny 5 watt bulb* bright side, it was at the end of our vacation so it didn't impact our time, but it was a bad note to end on

Sunday October 26th

We had breakfast ressies at Crystal Palace for 8:25am for just my Dh, all three ds and myself. I wasn't able to add my Dm and Dn to the adr when they decided to join us about 6 weeks prior to the trip. But no biggie because my Dn was not interested in getting up any earlier than noon anyway.
Ok so now it was my turn to forget my cellphone, which I realized walking down a pretty empty Main Street to breakfast. See the real problem with that was that I was supposed to call my dm after CP and set up a meeting time and place. So I think to myself, ok we can figure something out..let's just get to breakfast and figure it out from there. Breakfast was really good as usual, as we find that is usually the case at CP. The kids loved the characters. My little one was a little apprehensive at first, but when he saw that his older bros were comfortable hugging and high-fiving the characters, he joined in on the fun.
When we were almost ready to leave, my Dh thought that maybe our server could help. So when he came over my Dh explained the situation and we were told that we could use CP's phone. So our server led me to the phone in the little room that houses the adr check-in.
What a bustling little area. Servers coming in and out getting there tables, lists and papers all over the walls of various info and procedures, hotel numbers, people checking-in, and little containers full of crayons and celebration confetti and stickers, etc. Weird to see behind the scenes. But anyway, they were very nice and helpful and even dialed the number I had to call to reach a hotel on property. So when I was handed the phone it sounded like dead air. So I asked if it went through and they reassured me that it did and that it usually takes some waiting for someone to answer. Ok, after a few minutes and me feeling so in the way since the room is so small, I was convinced the call didn't go through, so I asked again and someone new checked for me and then redialed. I knew right away it was ok now since there was wonderful Disney music. After a few more minutes, I was connected to my Dm's room and we made our plans and then we were off to Buzz Lightyear. My fave ride by the way!
After a couple more rides we were onto Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor-a very funny show I might add and then off to meet my Dm and Dn. We couldn't find them, of course! We waited and waited again. At this point I was like, I am not doing this again. So we left and although I felt bad, I also felt that we waited long enough. I figured that maybe we'd run into them. We went on other rides and decided to leave in the early afternoon to go swimming at the pool.
When we got back to the room I ran to get my cell and called my Dn. They were on their way back from MK and they were going to meet us at the pool. Come to find out...when they got to MK my Dn was starving and they stopped at Casey's to grab something, but since it was very crowded it took longer than expected and by the time they got out it was pretty past our meeting time. We probably just missed them by only minutes. They did enjoy their day anyway, which made me feel much better.
Well believe it or not we all met up at the pool and had such a good time. Even my mom went in-she doesn't usually like to wear a bathing suit except when she is at her beach house. Stormalong Bay is my favorite resort pool in Disney. So after swimming for a bit, we went back to our room to get ready for DHS for dinner at Sci-Fi for 5:20.
Dinner surprised me. It was better than the last few times we were there. Actually overall, the meals this trip were better than in the past. I never had a really bad meal anywhere (except Spoodles but that is a whole other story from many trips ago), but this time around they were surprisingly better.
After dinner we went on a couple of rides and then went to see Fantasmic. I get chills everytime.
Then we headed to the Boardwalk for all of the kids and my Dh to rent a surrey bike to ride around the Boardwalk. While they were off, my Dm and I went to the Boardwalk Bakery and got cupcakes. My mom was getting tired so she started to walk back to the room and I waited for the rest. After they had their ride, we walked back to the BC and decided to watch the movie they were showing on the beach and we ate the cupcakes. It was fun but a bit chilly. Everyone was getting pool towels to keep warm, but it was worth it.
It was pretty late at this point, so we walked my Dn to her room and then we headed to ours. Until tomorrow...

Monday, October 27th

We decided to sleep in today since we didn't have any breakfast ressies and the night before was a late one. Now when I say sleep in I mean just not get ready and leave the room. My boys wake up way to early to sleep in. My oldest wakes up in the 5:00 hour without fail everyday. But still, it was nice to have a slow morning. Up for the day...EPCOT. My favorite park.
All of us headed out late afternoon. I love that EPCOT is so easy to walk to from the BC. While walking around I made mental notes as to where I wanted to get food from during the F&WF. I figured that I would have plenty of time...it was only Monday and we had until Sunday...
We made our way to Soarin. Everyone but my youngest Ds and myself went on. While waiting, I walked around with him in the stroller and he took a nap. I got a pretzel with cheese and a Sprite and I sat down to relax in quiet for a bit. Then I did a little shopping and I bought some DVC exclusive pins and Annual Passholder pins. I also got a bag of candy in Mousegear(I think that is where it was). I had no idea that in the really not so distant future, I would revisit that store...
After meeting up again, we all explored a bit and went on Spaceship Earth and had fun with the interactive touch screen. Then we went toThe Seas with Nemo and Friends. Cute ride for the kids. We decided to go see Turtle Talk with Crush. So as we are waiting to get in, my husband leans his hand on the baby's(we still refer to my Ds(3) as the baby) head to kind of lead him. Well, he looks at me and says I think he is warm. I think my heart stopped for a second. I felt him, he was warm. He was fairly warm. I had such a sick feeling in my stomach. So my Dm and I took him to see if I could get him some medicine before we got back to the room, since I didn't have any there and I didn't have a thermometer either. We went to Mousegear and they did have Tylenol, but not for his age/weight. They directed me to the Baby Center. I found what I was looking for and gave him some. Now you have to understand, I do not ever give my kids medicine at the first sign of a fever. I always watch it and if it hits about 101 then I will also depending on other symptoms and dr recommendation of course. But since we were ultimately at a strange place and in the hot sun with tons of people around us, I didn't want him to get worse. So after the Baby Center, my Dm came back to the room with me. All throughout this whole ordeal and panic I kept saying over and over in my head "on no, please say this is not happening". I felt sick. For so many reasons. Just sick.
The fever quickly went away and he was much happier. And never came back...at least not that day...
We had adrs for Liberty Tree Tavern for 5:30 and we were to have my Ds(3)'s birthday celebration there along with a cake we ordered. I had to cancel of course, which was very upsetting, but at least my little one was feeling better and that really is all that mattered. Plus, I figured if he got good rest maybe the fever wouldn't come back. Which it didn't, well, long enough anyway for me to be duped, but that is later.
Meanwhile my Dh and my other 2 Ds and my Dn stayed at EPCOT to go on Test Track when their Fastpass time came and then they came back to the BC. They spent the rest of the afternoon and evening back and forth between our room, my Dm's room and the arcade. My Dh and I would take turns staying with the baby and going to keep the other 2 busy. It was not a fun time for anyone, but you do what you gotta do. Tomorrow...everyone seems good to go, so...

So sorry about the fever scare but at least he seems to feel better. I know that when my dd was little, she was prone to quick temperature spikes if she didn't drink enough liquids while on vacation - also cause some "not lovely" mood swings.

Yikes, I hope that the fever doesn't come back for your little guy.

Sounds like you are having a good time despite a couple speed bumps in the way. Looking forward to hearing more.

Sorry your son had a fever. I hope that was the end of it and no one else gets sick.

Can't wait to read more.

I hope the fever stayed away. It's awful having sick kids at Disney. So much to do and you can't do any of it when someone isn't feeling well.

The rest of it sounds fun. You're good at writing TRs.

Tuesday, October 18th----A Very Long Post For This Day

Ok, up until today I would agree that all the little mishaps and even a short-lived fever seem minor and some of it even typical on any vacation, but today is the day that when added to the past and what is to come for this particular trip makes it all a nightmare.
Woke up to a beautiful day. The baby's fever never came back and I thought, ok maybe he just got a little overheated or something. I figured if he weren't ok, the fever would have come back or there would be other symptoms, but he seemed perfectly fine so we pressed on. I felt bad enough that he missed his birthday dinner and cake at LTT but I was relieved that I thought it was over. So like I said we continued.
Can't wait to get to Kona Cafe for that yummy tonga toast! We all ate pretty good and were pleased with everything. I don't know if I would ever go back. Not because of the food or service, which truly was great, but anything that makes me think back to how that day started makes my stomach turn.
Off we went to Animal Kingdom for the day! I couldn't wait for my Dm and Dn to see It's Tough To Be A Bug! I knew they would have such classic reactions! They were both freaked, and it was funny. They did come out liking it alot though. After that show we walked over to Dinosaur and my 2 Ds and my Dn went on along with my Dh. My Dm went off to use the bathroom and my Ds3 and I went into the shop and bought him a dinosaur. Since there wasn't a long line at all they came off pretty quickly and we all met outside.
We walked over to Primeval Whirl and the older kids and Dh went to get on line. My Dm pain in the booty that she is left again, but this time to find a smoking section. So I took Ds3 on TriceraTop Spin. He of course loved it. At the same time that I got off I saw the others getting off PW.
We decided to go to the safari and I went off to get my Dm and left my Dh hubby with all 4 kids. When we got back I didn't see them, so my Dm called my Dn. As she was calling her I was buying some pins at the little stand by the TriceraTop Spin ride. She hands me the phone because she can't hear my Dn. When I get on the phone my Dn sounds like an annoyed teenager and is telling me that they are at the Boneyard and that the baby fell and is crying. Having three very active boys I didn't think anything of it. I thought she was telling me to complain to me-she is a teenage girl who doesn't have huge amounts of patience with little kids. I also figured my Dh was with him so I again wasn't too concerned. I told her we were coming. We strolled over there not too much in a hurry. As soon as I got there my Dn comes walking out of the Boneyard and walking towards me telling me that my Dh hubby is freaking out and thinks he broke his leg. So of course I rush in. I run over to them and by now they are surrounded by paramedics and various Disney people in official clothing. At this point my Dh is holding my ds3 and he looks scared, but he isn't crying, just fussy-like. I talk to him, but I didn't want to move him if indeed there was something wrong with his leg. I think he was afraid with all of the strangers around him. Through all this I find out that he was going down the slide with my Dh and his leg got caught under my Dh's. Let me tell you I thought I was going to throw up. My Dh looked worse than the baby. The paramedics took all the info and did some tests on him and came to the conclusion that he probably just pulled a muscle. There was no broken skin, no swelling, and he was able to kick the paramedics hand when he asked him to. Another clue was that he wasn't in pain or at least didn't seem to be. He also said that he wasn't walking because he was afraid and that we couldn't force him, he would do it on his own. He did offer a ride to the ER which he said they have to offer, but thought it was unnecessary. His exact words to us were "this wouldn't show up on a scan and certainly not on an xray". So we decided ok, the paramedic thinks he is ok and what d we know. There was no broken skin, or swelling and he was able to move it, so we assumed he was right. There was a small group of official looking people almost huddled in a group at this point and another official looking person asking questions that he seemed to punch into a computer-looking thing. I tell you they came out of the woodworks. They seemed to appear out of nowhere and in a flash too.
We put the poor thing in the stroller and started walking, stopping every so often to feel it and try to get him to move it. I could move it up and down and he wouldn't complain, further making us feel like he was fine.
We asked the baby if he wanted to go back to the pool or stay and he wanted to stay. So we went on the safari. He was fine and even smiling at this point. Every so often he would wince in pain or seem uncomfortable. While on the ride he pointed out animals to us and went crazy for a baby elephant. Right after the ride we came to an area that had little drums the kids could bang. There were a bunch of kids and it looked like fun so we stopped. My 2 older Ds started to play, and we thought this was a great opportunity for the baby to forget about his "pulled muscle" while he is being distracted by banging on the drums too. So we took him out of the stroller and my Dh held him standing up to he could bang on the drums and while he was my Dh slowly letting him bear some weight on his legs hoping he wouldn't realize it and then realize his leg was ok. Well when he did that, I looked at the baby and he looked a little apprehensive, and then his leg gave out from under him and he started crying. All in slow motion. That is when we realized this was no pulled muscle.
We spoke to Guest Relations to find the nearest ER and then we rushed to the car, dropped off my Dm and Dn and ran to the ER. By this time the baby seemed fine again, poor thing.
We ended up at Celebration Health. We checked in and within minutes were attended to. As the triage nurse checked him out and took his temp and stuff she told me had a slight fever to boot and his heart rate was pretty fast. Again I thought I was going to throw up. Within the first few hours we were there we got a bed and took xrays. They had a lady come and play with my other 2 boys. She was a teacher of some sort that dealt with the kids that were staying in the hospital. Now I must tell you that I am a germ freak! I didn't want anyone touching anything in that ER. I kept mental notes in my head of what was touched and by whom and what clothes I was tossing and how the shoes were to be taken off before we gor in the car, etc. So of course to add to my paranoia, someone with an unknown rash was on one side of us and someone with MRSA on the other. No Joke. Okay so now all of us were waiting for the results from the xray and the dr comes in to check out his fever and stuff. He listens to his lungs and all of that and diagnoses bronchitis!!!! "What!" I say, he coughed maybe 2 times in the past week, which isn't abnormal since sometimes he needs a nebulizer when he has a cold because he had lung issues around his 1st birthday. The dr said that didn't matter and no antibiotics were needed. My goodness, I swear! Then about 10 minutes later comes back in to tell us the results...his femur is broken! At that point I lost it. I felt so dizzy and everything felt so surreal. My brain is only processing blurbs of what the dr is saying at this point, but I did hear and understand 4-6 weeks in cast, right above growth plate, no way to tell if it will affect growth...
They put a stint on his leg, not the typical hard cast because they said if there was any swelling it needed to go down first before they could do the hard cast. We were devastated, especially my Dh who believed it was all his fault in the first place for going down the slide with him. My poor baby. We started to make plans to get on a plane asap and get him home. Upon hearing our plans the dr advised us that they wanted to do the hard cast now just in case. Since the stint wasn't the greatest of support and it being so close to the growth plate they didn't want to risk it getting injured more by travel. My Dh was afraid for them to do the hard cast since they themselves suggested to give it a few days and he was also nervous about being in a strange area without our own hospital and doctors doing that kind of job. But we figured we had no choice. We couldn't risk the travel.
So we agreed and they told us they had to transfer us to Children's Hospital in Orlando because they didn't have any pediatric orthopaedics to do the cast. He also informed us that we had to be transferred by ambulance because we weren't being released, we were continuing our treatment there. So we waited FOREVER! It was crazy. It took HOURS for them to come. We were being told every hour that they were almost on their way and so on and so on. The teacher came back to play with the kids and I took the baby into the children's waiting area so he could watch come tv. This kid was tramatized by this point. So were the other 2 who also teared up on the news of their baby brother's broken leg. To put into perspective we got to the ER around 12noon and the ambulance got there at 11:00pm. No had eaten a bite since breakfast except for some ice pops we were all given by hospital staff. They also gave my little one a halloween costume. Staff came from all over the hospital to visit with my baby. I'm not sure why. We kept getting praised for the wonderful behavior of our 2 other sons. And they kept telling us we all were keeping up great. Yeah, because we were all numb.
So when the ambulance finally came we were informed that the baby would have to go on the stretcher. They wouldn't even let us carry him to the ambulance. Yeah, ok like that was going to go over well. He freaked and so did my husband. You have to understand we were in there all day, no one had eaten in many hours, we couldn't leave and go on our own and we felt bad for the other 2 as well. We were all beat and had had it. The baby finally lost it after being such a trooper all day and we weren't about to let him be tramatized anymore. He truly lost it. He would not let go of me and he was screaming! He would not get on that stretcher and they were insisting. No one from our family had made a peep all day, but let me tell you...it had gotten to be too much at that point. So they had no choice we were carrying him to the ambulance whether anyone liked it or not. And we did. Only one if us could ride with him though and we gave him the choice. The other one of us was to follow the ambulance with our other 2 Ds. He chose for me to stay with him. Which was better because I needed to be with him and I was afraid I would get lost following. He freaked when we had to put him in the stretcher already in the ambulance because I had to let go of him so they could strap him to the bed. He kept screaming/crying/yelling "You're leaving me?!?!" over and over and I kept reassuring him I wasn't going anywhere. After we started moving he was ok. The paramedics were great with him and tried to get him to look all around the cool ambulance. They even put the siren on for him so he could hear.
We finally arrived at the Childrens Hospital that is supposedly owned or something like that by Disney and they are supposedly changing the name to something with Disney in it I think I remember that correctly. Anyway, they were wonderful there! We were brought right to a room of our own. We were attended to extremely quickly and all of our questions were answered right away. They were very sweet with the baby and knowledgable. They took more xrays and then the pediatric orthopaedic came in and casted him up. They also got us drinks and snacks and were just really great. I feel like I can't say that enough. Spencer was our nurse and I absolutely love him. He was the best. We were in and out of there pretty quick thank goodness.
Believe it or not we didn't get back to our room until 1am. What A Day!!! The baby seemed to be ok for as much as he could be ok. The kids snacked on stuff at the room and we went to bed. Thankfully the day is over. As I write this day of the report it is bringing back to many negative emotions, but I had to get it out.
Oh and by the way, the nightmare is not over...
