Welcome to "Fireside" book club!!!!!!!!!!!! - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sorry just catching up I got busy and have only just started the book. I will be jumping in soon.
The reading goes very quickly. If I didn't have a million pressing projects and two other books I'm reading, I'd be WAY ahead because this is a hard book to put down.

Friendly's, that brings me back to my camp days outside of Great Barrington, Mass. We used to get Awful-Awfuls! Do they still have them?
Yes, I think a woman can be smart, savy, etc. & still be a romantic at heart.
The unresolved feelings/conflict with father really struck a chord with me too. My dad passed away 22 yrs ago, from a cancer that was curable if only he went to the doctor when he first had symptoms. I was angry at him for a long time for dying. And other things too. But even though he wasn't the perfect father in my opinion, there was never any doubt he did love me. Just wished he spent more time with me & less at work.

That part of the book really seemed to touch several readers! I think it is a really good point that forgiveness is best done sooner than later for everyone involved, especially the forgiver, though.
Nighty, night, book club! Thank you for the interesting and thought provoking comments!

Shortly before my father's death 6 years ago, he voiced his regrets to me that he felt he had spent too much time working and not enough time fathering. I never felt this as a child. I think his love for us overshadowed everything else. As I grow older though - or maybe as my kids grow older - I understand more where his regret came from. Although, as a child, I never felt it, as an adult with children of my own who are now grown, I totally 'get it'.

Ok I am all caught up and first let me say that I agree with the book bringing back feelings from our own lives. Let me just say that when her mom discovered that she had a black eye I instantly got a little sick. I had a similiar situation happen when I broke up with a long time boyfriend just out of highschool. Luckily we were at a friends house and the friend instantly tackled the guy and his mom called the police and he was arrested but I KNOW how scared and angry you can be all at once. I also just took off for another state and it strikes me as such a similiar situation that I wonder if the author knows what those feelings are like because she explained the shock and aches soooo well. I have never been in a situation like that since but can say without a doubt it was one of the most defining moments of my life to have someone I had been with and trusted for 4 years betray me! I love that she is using this moment to start over but I am saddened by her choice to let him get away with it. I only hope he does not go on to abuse another woman.

The main character from Just Breathe drove right across the country! I wonder if that is a pattern.
I can't understand the thought process of abusive men. WHat is their problem, anyway? I think they are just big bullies who are not very smart, so they use their strength and size to intimidate to distract the target from their shortcomings! They yell and break things in hopes that the other person will think they are in control.
I wonder if the jerk is going to show up again, like in Just Breathe.
I am sure that with all the loose ends she left behind on the west coast he will make another appearance. I am interested to see how Kim's and Bo's paths will cross. I have a sneeking suspicion that the earlier comments about the third floor will be true or if not her Mom Penny will probably have a hand in the connection.
I finally picked up this book 2 days ago, and I am more than 1/2 done the book. Once I pick it up, I can't put it down.
Before I make any comments here, I will have to go back in the book to see where in the story chapter 4 is, so I don't give anything away.
Welcome! We started slowly because several people were still searching for the book. I have a feeling we'll be reading VERY quickly now! The group sets the pace for discussion, by the way, so be sure to chime in on Friday when we decide the week's discussion chapters.

I've pondered my own question and decided that I wouldn't want to be anything but the romantic girl that I am. I'm beyond logical and by no means a "girly girl" but I am a romantic at heart. I currently working through The Love Dare (the book from Fireproof) for Lent. With my whole heart I believe that without Love, I am nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 I disagree with Kim that "falling in love and staying that way forever, trusting the secrets of your soul to your best friend and lover" is a "foolish thing." It is only foolish when you allow your love to distort reality. I believe you can have both.
I believe that She will find both love and trust as she grows as a person she just has to go through a grieving process from the betrayal that she just suffered. I think this book is a delight to read and I find myself smiling and giggling.

What a betrayal of trust and love! But kuddos to our Kim! She didn't stay and take the abuse and betrayal of their love. She didn't run away! She needed space...something familiar...and some time to go through that grieving process.
I agree with you! The book is definitely a delight to read! At times I'm on the verge of tears and then I'm giggling away!
