Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Ugh. Yeah, wasn't that the Annie Leibowitz photo campaign with Scarlett Johannssen and David Beckham and such? All that hype and it was just some pictures.

I am fairly certain it is movie related . . . and for some reason keep thinking maybe it will have something to do with Toy Story 3 . . . or something. (I just keep thinking that if they put Pixar on the poster/ads, they may think they are giving too much away. I might be thinking about this too much . . . )

Ok, after extensive brain racking and a serious google session, here is my theory.... 1923 is when the company was founded. There are rumblings about a "fan club" type thimg where you pay a membership fee yearly to be a "Disney Insider" of sorts. you get special perks and inside info etc. I have also heard that a convention would be part of this whole deal...where members would be invited and departments with-in the company would do special presentations and such. it would be in DL or WDW (Alternating) and people would have the opportunity for backstage VIP tours and such.
I bet this whole thing (which was failry buried and found mostly by "big disney fans") is to announce this. Think about it...who's obsessing...the big Disney fans, who's entering their e-mails so they can be the first to know...the big Disney fans.

So, it's like a Disney-sanctioned Mousefest?
And not trying to be a naysayer, but Disney already has a program similar to the type you're suggesting - their Shareholders. Shareholders pay a fee to join (by buying stocks), and then are invited to an annual Shareholders meeting where they learn about exclusive upcoming marketing, watch special presentations about new movies coming out, etc.

That's actually kind of the purpose of "Viral" marketing campaigns. They're not big, and "in-your-face," and for the most part, casual observers of whatever's being marketed never even notice what's going on. Like a virus, they rely on few people to transmit the website, game, campaign, email, WHATEVER to other like-minded people. Hence, Amy bringing it to our attention, and then us Passporters (and other similar Disney-obsessed message boards) going bonkers with speculations!

Someone on that board from 2nd poster said Disney is coming out wih 23 Disney adventures. On another site someone thought it was a new Disney store with clothing that was more trendy. Who knows...not me it is fun to guess though!

It doesn't say Disney/Pixar. If you remember correctly, Pixar is very picky about getting their name on things, so, I don't think it has to do with Pixar. March 10 is a Tuesday which for the movie world means DVD releases. I think it might be just a press release.

And, while posting that last reply, it dawned on me that Return to Witch Mountain was released on videotape. Not sure if at all related to the Are you 23 promotion, but, on March 13, 2009, another movie in the Witch Mountain series is being released starring Dwayne Johnson called Race to Witch Mountain.

This is a "fan club"! The stcokholders aren't neccesarily "fans" but people interested in Disney's business aspect. You don't base your financial desisions solely on the fact that you enjoy WDW or Pixar movies (you might buy because your a fan but that's not ALL stockholders.) And the stockholder meetings aren't exactly conventions. It's a business meeting, yes, you find out what's coming up and see movie trailers and stuff but again, it's a BUSINESS MEETING.

Like a virus, they rely on few people to transmit the website, game, campaign, email, WHATEVER to other like-minded people. DUH, That was my point! If it wasn't geared towards the big Disney fan it would not have been a "viral" campaign...honestly, if it was a video release don't you think they'ld want as big a buzz as possible. I think they are purposely trying bring in the life-long, deep Disney fan on this one and not "sally sue who sees it in Family Fun magazine and says 'Hmmm I'll put my e-mail in'". What I'm saying is they PURPOSELY did a viral campaign to get the attention of the true Disney fan. I wasn't questioning what a viral campaign is.

Disney already has a fan club . . . we're called DVC members and AP holders. They already offer special events to those groups, I don't see that disappearing nor do I see them adding another group to cater to.

But, really, those aren't fan clubs, those are a situation where you pay for a service and are afforded extras perks as part of that service.

Hey, i'm not saying I came up with the concept or that I am sure this is it, I'm just saying this is my theory, just like others have voiced their theories on what it is. Sorry if i overstepped somewhere I feel like I'm being attacked.
