Did anyone else see this re: stroller rental fee increase?? - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I saw the posting on here before it was real....It made our mind up. We won't be renting one! Since we are flying and don't want to mess with a stroller, let alone buying one for my 4 year for only a week, we will just have to make due and hope he doesn't get tired and grouchy. I called after getting the disney visa card to inquire about the free stroller rental and that is only good at Disney Land. They could not explain to me why it was not good at WDW. So far the only disappointment.
We've had the stance of if we really need one we would rent one, my DD5 has not gotten into one in at least 1 1/2yr. But with the price increase we will really have to think about it. DH will probably have to carry her out anyway. I think this increase was a little unnceccsary
Seeing this made up my mind and yesterday, I bought a stroller at a resale shop for $30. It's lightweight and has a big basket and folds easily. It will more more convenient for us anyway, since I won't have to remove him when we hit the International Gateway exit to go back to the hotel. I just think this is so shortsighted to raise the price that much. Disney transportation is going to be overloaded with them now.
I emailed Disney Friday afternoon got this response. Upset at the price increase..it's crazy! We are now looking at $190 for the week...CRAZY!
Dear Kimberly,
Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.
Although guests are welcome to bring their own, strollers may be rented
in each of our four theme parks (at the designated stroller/wheelchair
rental location). Double strollers are also available at the Magic
Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and at Disney's Animal
Kingdom Theme Park. All of our strollers feature canopies (sun shades),
as well as a small basket for the storage of personal items: however,
they do not recline. Stroller reservations are not accepted, they are
available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Should you wish to
visit more than one park in a given day, simply retain your stroller
receipt and present it at the second park to obtain another stroller at
no additional cost.
For guests who require a stroller rental for multiple days, we offer a
Length of Stay rental ticket where you make a one-time payment
transaction for as many days of rental that you will need. Upon visiting
a Theme Park, simply show your receipt at the stroller rental location
and you will be directed through the queue with little or no wait.
Stroller Prices:
Single: $15 per day rental (no deposit); $13 per day Length of Stay
rental
Double: $31 per day rental (no deposit); $27 per day Length of Stay
rental
Rental strollers are available at the Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot,
Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, and Transportation and
Ticket Center.
This is quite a lame response that Disney sent back..........it does not even address you dissappointement!!!! Maybe the Moms Panel should address this..................

We are bringing our own in Oct for our 3yr old and never considered renting since we want the stroller for outside the parks but we were going to rent a Disney one in Epcot so our bag would have somewhere to sit!
I guess now the stroller rental places will become stroller shops with an assortment of Disney single/double strollers - I bet the local baby supply/hire places are going to love this.
Maybe we should start a thread about when each of us is leaving so we can pass on used strollers at the airport or hotel. LOL!
I'm new here, really enjoying all the helpful info! I just read about the stroller increase myself and found a place in Orlando that rents all kinds of things (including strollers) and has free delivery/pickup to the resorts. It's called "A Baby's Best Friend". They have a website....I don't have any affliation with them and haven't actually used their services yet, but read a lot of positive reviews on other sites. It's an option, anyway. Hope this helps someone!!
I think they want out of the stroller rental business
This may be the case, but seeing as Disney is so family oriented, I can't understand it. Since my DS is 11, this isn't a real problem for us. However, I can easily see how it would affect so many of you out there. It is going to be so much more cost effective to pick up a nice stroller at a re-sale shop or an inexpesive one from Walmart/Target/etc. That way you have it for back and forth in the airport, back and forth to the parks and in the resorts. If you really don't want to haul it back home at the end of your trip - there are sooooo many families at WDW - give it to someone there and tell them to pass it on at the end of their trip!! Even if you spend $50 on a stroller - it will cost you that much for a single stroller (at length of stay cost) for four days! And most of us go for more than four days!!!

Thanks!!! Glad to be here! I just placed my order for a double jogging stroller that will cost me 85 dollars for up to 7 nights with ABBF. It even reclines! I'm so excited!
