As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Yeah, they seem to be experiencing some trouble with using FP for Crush. Why they did not figure FP in when they built this BRAND NEW attraction is beyond me, though. I mean, seriously, Disney must've known how popular this ride would become and that they'd eventually wanna implement the FP system to manage the lines

My wife, daughter (3 at the time) and I visited DLRP in April 2007 for my 40th birthday.
We stayed at the Newport Bay Club hotel.
The hotel was great, although it's quite a walk away from the Disney Village and the parks (there was a little "shuttle train" but there was a charge for that).
The parks were also great, well laid out, accessible etc. Disney Studios was a bit of a "building site" (Tower of Terror being completed at the time) so was a bit disappointing.
A couple of things, however, spoiled it for me.....
Meeting characters was like a rugby scrum! No orderly queue or line, everyone just mobbed the character in a "survival of the fittest" maul! My 3 yr old didn't stand a chance, autographs and photographs were out of the question. She was really disappointed.
Customer service was "restricted" shall we say! Nothing like the standards you get at WDW or any other Disney location. I felt as if I was being a nuisance just asking for directions! The Cast Members at the hotel weren't particularly friendly or helpful. Same in the parks.
I was expecting a similar system to WDW where your resort room key is your ticket and a charge card too. Basically everything you need all in one place. They don't operate the same in DLRP, room key was separate, I had a flimsy piece of card as a "charge card" (which wasn't well received in the parks!) and had card tickets as well. Perhaps I'm being spoiled while at WDW but I did miss the convenience.
Finally the overall cost. For a "few quid" (for a few pounds) more I could have had two weeks in WDW rather than a few days in Paris.
I probably won't visit DLRP again, and wouldn't recommend it to anyone, particularly anyone who is expecting the same "magic" as WDW.

We have been to DLRP numerous times and I actually prefer the Disneyland Park to the MK at WDW. I love the Disneyland hotel and would definately only stay there in the future. In fact I loved the park so much I became a shareholder!
I went to DLP when it first opened in June 1992 with my mum and sister. I have since been back 3 times with my husband and son - October 1997, October 1999 and August 2002. We had the character breakfast in 1999 at the New York Hotel and ordered a birthday cake for my son's 5th birthday. It was great - Minnie Mouse came out singing "Happy Birthday". We have always stayed at Sequoia Lodge but if we go again we would probably stay at Hotel Cheyenne.

I totally agree, we just came back from our 1st weekend at DLP and I wouldn't recommend it.
When we were waiting to get Daisy's autograph DD was nearly knocked over. Daisy herself was using her own hand gestures to move the crowds back. I had a few "polite" words to the so called "Cast Member" who did bring my DD forward but it was all very off putting.
We also saw so much queue jumping, and after queueing for one the of the rides, I mentioned it to the "Cast Member" who just shrugged his shoulders.
From the food that we ordered at the parks, everything, and I mean everything came out cold.
The only good side was the we stayed at the Sequoia Lodge and were given a free upgrade to a Suite which looked over the DisneyVillage.
Very disappointed that it carries the "Disney" name as it is not the Disney that I know!!!
I have to chip in to say how much I agree about the queue jumping, I ended up having a "firm word" with some persistant offenders in POTC. My son was mortified but it was so inconsiderate to everyone else.
We went to DLP in 2004 and stayed in the New York Hotel, which I couldn't fault. The buffet breakfast was fantastic, the characters were everywhere, staff were lovely. The location is perfect for walking to the parks but far enought away from the buzz.
However ... there were a lot of rude people in the parks (including some staff ). We were watching the parade with our boys and when it finished, someone had stolen our hire pushchair so we had to trek back to the front of the park with our receipt and get another one. But here's the funny thing! We went to Peter Pan (I think) and when we came out ... there was our stolen buggy!!! So we stole it right back . Great place to visit but its not a patch on WDW.

I am planning to take a trip to DLP Sept 2010 for a few days then catch a flight to Barcelona and do the DCL. I am brushing on my Italian now, but will I need French? I think my brain would explode if I had to do both.
If you're just visiting Disneyland Paris, then : you shouldn't need French, as all the Cast Members speak both English and French. I've only ever come across one CM that didn't speak English and that was where we enquired about Annual Passes. In that area, they obviously expected all their custom to come from France.
Anyway, much Italian and French are very similar, but I know what you mean about your brain exploding. I speak some Italian, French and Spanish and I am forever confusing the three languages.
I agree that it is a great place, or at least it was in 2002 when we last went, but is not a patch on the organisation and friendlyness of WDW. If you only have a couple of days and not enough money for WDW from the UK then it is great for a Disney fix. We haven't been since 2002 as we now live in the north of England and prefer to save our money to go to WDW once every 4-5 years instead of DLP every 2. Saying that, DH is now working overseas so we may get to WDW more often
I have lost track of how many times I've been to DLP - we lived in Paris for 2 years and had annual passes both years! We would just hop the RER and go whenever we wanted to, a dream come true
It is a different experience than WDW, for sure, and you have to go in realizing it will be just that. I looked at it this way - living in France was much different than living in the US, and I could either embrace the differences and love them for what they were, or I could be miserable by constantly comparing life in Paris to life back home in the US.
With that attitude, we fell in love with DLP and no matter how many times we went back, it never lost its magic. You could blindfold me at the gates and give me a destination and I could find it! It's a beautiful park and will always have a special place in my heart.
