Running Through Walt's Original Magic Kingdom **COMPLETE 10/9** - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We made our way to Adventureland, where we took a little break before the Tiki Room show started. There is a Dole Whip stand there, which has two lines, one outside the attraction and the other once you go through the turnstiles. Guess which one has the shorter line?
I took a few pictures while we waited for the show to start. There was a little pre-show going on, where each of the statues speaks and moves. One actually had rain coming out of it!
It seemed like we waited for a really long time, but we'd been doing a lot of walking, so it was nice to take a break. We were able to go in and see the show with other guests, but Josh told us to stay afterwards so we could meet a special guest!
This is Ophelia. She was one of the flowers from the original show. See how excited Josh is?
We had one more stop before it was time for lunch, so we made our way through Adventureland and back toward Town Square.
There were construction walls in Disneyland, as well.
We went into the building where Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is. There is lots of great memoribilia in there.
I first saw this picture at Guest Relations in Epcot. DH searched high and low and was able to find it for me. It hangs next to the door in my bedroom, so I see it every time I leave the room.
I believe Josh told us that this is the drawing that John Hench made of the park as Walt described it, in order to convince the money people to let them build Disneyland.
The back of the castle, which was supposed to be the front. See Walt?
Once we finished up here, it was time for lunch. Josh led us to a little alcove next to Guest Relations, where we were to have lunch.
Here's the pin we each received as part of the tour:
We spotted the Mary Blair exhibit across the square and vowed to get over there before the trip was over!
We needed to get to the Disneyland Hotel, so we walked up Main Street toward Tomorrowland, where we'd take the monorail to Downtown Disney and walk from there. (Got that?) I believe we picked up Star Tours FPs, since we were walking by. The FP machines are different at DL. They don't suck your card into the machine, they only allow the card to go in so far and then you pull it out. I was so confused at first that we had to call a CM over to help out. We tried to explain why we are hopeless at DL FPs; he said he hadn't been to Florida, so he didn't know the FP machines are different.
This clothing store is called "Chester Drawers."
Doesn't this guy belong at the Studios?
The monorails are different from the ones at WDW. It's so weird to walk through familiar doors but come upon a completely different sight! It's bigger on the inside (Doctor Who, anyone?), and it's not divided up like the ones at WDW. And some of the seats are sideways, so you can look out the window as you glide along.
Up next: the Expo, a little break, and a full evening at Disneyland

Nice to see all the pics from Tiki Room! I'm looking forward to seeing the new/old show at WDW. Did you walk out with "In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room" stuck in your heads?
Wow-great report...can't wait for more-especially of run day! I have never been to DL and now I want to go! Love the pics! and I must say-when you said MM were empty-you were not kidding. that really struck me. "Empty" at WDW still has plenty more bodies around!
It was amazing how many people we chatted with at DL had never been to WDW either. I think that shows the amount of locals that enter DL is way larger than WDW!! Love that pin from the tour!

Sounds like a fun day. I am looking forward to hopefully catching the new Tiki Room show at WDW in December.
And we had the same problem with the DLR FP machines -- totally confusing at first!
Duffy was nice enough to share!

We got a AAA discount on the tour, too, which made it even better!

It most definitely is a locals park. We noticed that most CMs were from CA.

Great updates! I love the piranhas in the water on the JC! I cannot wait to see the original Tiki Room at DL and I'll be at WDW in October so that I can see what they've done with the recent rehab! It's one of my favorite attractions.
Beth, your TR is making me miss DL so much! Good thing I'll be there in a few months. I really enjoyed the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour, but I had a really terrific guide who knew her stuff. It's funny Josh told you about Walt and Lillian celebrating their 50th the night before the park opened. So he thinks Walt was born in December 1905 and celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary in July 1955. I know Walt was always ahead of his time, but I think that's a bit much! He needs to brush up on his facts a bit, but it's a good thing he has the right attitude.
Can't wait for more, especially to hear about the race!

I'd read about the piranhas beforehand, so I knew I had to get a photo of them! It will be good to make a comparison between the original at DL and the "new" one at WDW.
