I thought we were going to WDW.... but this is Disneyland - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Time for another update
July went quickly.
Jessica and I had the pleasure of meeting up with Laurie and Jeannie on July 27th. Laurie and Jessi and I met up shortly after 8:30 am. Laurie had finished her breakfast early and we had a couple of extra hours to spend at the parks.
Laurie covered how are meeting was in her report. Just have to add that we had a great time and can't wait to meet up again. Hopefully, sometime at WDW and AK park.
We just had a great camping trip at the beach last weekend. Spent two days tent camping with our girl scout friends. It was not an official girl scout camp as our leader (Bill) wanted to have his beer..lol
We came back on Sunday and all was good, but very hot. The heat wave had hit with temps over 100. On Monday my father started a medication for a bladder infection and he ended up in the ER with side effects from the medication. Luckily he was able to come home that night.
The next day our air went out.... it was totally gone. We knew it was coming for a couple of years. The unit was over 30 years and the furnace is the original from when we built the house in 1968. Long story... short. We finally have air again. The hardest part was trying to keep Ginger... our doxie comfortable. Poor girl was just panting away.
Yesterday, we spent another day in the heat..... this time at Disneyland. We met up with our friends, Beverly and her DD Lisa. I started collecting FP for a few attractions before they joined us at Whitewater Snacks for lunch. Lisa brought microwave brownie mix and the oil. The girls mixed it up in their bowls and had a great dessert.
We let the girls go, and they went to TOT. I had a fast pass for them but the line was only 13 minutes. We met up with them and went into the Animation building to cool off a bit. After we cooled, we headed over to Disneyland and the girl were on their way... to the canoes. They got splashed and loved it. They were dry by the time we met up with them. Beverly and I opted for the cool air of the Opera House and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. I finally got to see the pre show with the Voices of Liberty. They were amazing. The girls met us at the exit of the show and we headed back to DCA to use the FP for the RSR. We did opt for a snack at Ghirardelli for the Nob Hill Chill... so yummy. Now refreshed, we went to Racers and saw that they were closed and had been for 3 hours. Didn't know when they would open, we took a spin on the flying tires. The girls went back to TOT after that and ended up going on 4 times since the line was still "13" minutes. Beverly and I enjoyed a bench at the exit in the cool air.
We deceided to check out RSR and they were now open. It was getting close to being dark and this was the first ride for up with the night lights on. It was so incredible to see it a night time.... just wow.
Jessica had been wanting to see if she could beat her score from when we went on with Laurie. I asked to load at the handicapped area and we waited a short while for the h/c vehicle. We had a great time, and when we returned, there was no one waiting for the h/c vehicle and the CM asked if we would like to go again. SURE... we replied and went again. No high scores this time as it was at the end of the day for us and our arms were like limp spaghetti.
It was time for a late dinner and we went to Tangaroa Terrace at the DL Hotel. Jessica picked out a nice table with a pool view and we were even able to see some of the fireworks from Disneyland. Dinner was done and we walked around the hotel, before heading over to the parking lot for our trip home.
We will be at the Disneyland hotel on Sept 2nd for one night and Beverly and Lisa will be joining us. I am using my DVC points on the room and had called them to add B&L. We checked at the front desk and they were not added, so we added them to the reservation last night. Jessica and I are volunteering at the Disneyland Half Marathon on 9/2. We are working a 3:30am to 8am shift at waterstation Bambi. We are really excited for this. We will be working with the group from the Orange County Homeschoolers. This will be our first time volunteering for something at Disney.
I also finally purchased our tickets for the Halloween party on 10/2. We haven't been to the party for a few years now when it was over at DCA. Slowly things are coming together.

Sorry to hear about your a/c! Glad you were able to get it fixed quickly.
What fun you're having! I can't believe you got to stay on for a second ride on Toy Story just like the day I was there! I really can't wait to get back out there to spend some more time at the parks with you.
Please do a report about volunteering at the marathon. It sounds like fun, but 3:30am?? Yikes! At least you won't get sunburn!

Just got caught up with your tr. How cool to be at the opening of Carsland. I don't think I would have been brave enough to do it myself, way to many people lol.
Sorry to hear about the AC. I have a window unit in my den that may need to be replaced next year as it does not work all that well when it is really hot out.
Hi there !!!! Sorry about the AC going out, hey about DL, I maybe be doing the hotels on the 27th and I will be with friends to go to Down town Disney for the day. Either way I'll be up there. I wish I could see Cars land then, but we are not doing the parks since they can't afford it. But they will be doing the Rainforest Cafe.

Disneyland Half Marathon mini trip
We did our volunteer job last weekend at the Disneyland Half Marathon.
It started very early in the morning. We left home around 1:15am. Got down to the parks just before 2:15am. I was very shocked to see that the street to the Disneyland Hotel was blocked off. Finally after driving around the road blocks, we made it to the Disneyland Hotel. Did our early check in, gave our bags to bell services. Went to park in the close by handicapped spot, and unloaded the scooter.
We headed over to the Mickey & Friends parking lot and checked in. We got our tee shirts and a lanyard with our names on it. We met up with the Orange County Homeschoolers group.
Around 4:30 AM we were led backstage to our station. We were the second waterstation and we were backstage just behind Toontown. We set up the tables/cups and water. There were to be 3 tiers of water cups stacked up.
Just before 6 am the wheelchair racers came through and then the runners started making their way to us. At first it was not too many runners. That soon changed and the whole walk way was runners grabbing the water. The just kept coming and coming. Around 8am it was almost over. Now to repeat the process and clean up. After clean up was done we were led back to the M&F parking lot to check out. At that time we all got a ticket to Disneyland.

I didn't realize they finished the run before the park opens. At WDW they start early, but are still running through the parks after opening..... come to think of it, though, I've only seen the full marathon. Maybe the half finishes way earlier! At any rate, that was a very early start for you and Jessica, but it sounds like fun!

Laurie, The runners started in DTD and into Disneyland before the park opened. They left Disneyland via Toontown and then onto the road part of the marathon. We finished up early, but the runners were still at the begining part of the marathon. They still had a long way to go. Although, I did see some runners who were already finished by the time we got back to the Disneyland Hotel. I guess they were the ones at the front and fast runners.
