Adventures By Disney - A Tale of Two Cities - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I do have this piece of advice for you. One could easily spend a week in the Lourve. I personally got lost for about an hour trying to find an exhibit I was looking for. I would see if you could find a list of current exhibits/ major pieces and decide what you must see. My experience with tour groups and the Lourve is that they drop you off and say "meet us back here in 3 hours" Great . . . now what.
My Favorites are The Coronation of Napoleon by Jaques-Louis David, and the Caravaggios--I think I remember there being 2.
I have my own opinions about the Mona Lisa--but I'll wait to hear what you think first!
Also really impressive is the collection of Egyptian Antiquities.
(can't tell who is a history buff can you?)
Wow Sha I love how much you will get done and I am so sorry that your wonderful DMom isn't able to come with you. But I am sure that you will make lots of new friends.

I am loving the box of goodies they send before hand! That's really nice
I think that what they do have planned looks awesome! The tower of london ahhh and tea at harrods???!!! I have always wanted to do one of those literary tours of england. You are going to have such fun! I am so jealous of the disneyland paris and the louvre! So much to see!
I hope you have a great time!
Well, even though the itinerary is lacking, it still seems like it will be a very full trip! I hope you take detailed notes and lots of pictures for us. Can't believe you're leaving tonight. Have a safe trip
Have a fantastic trip!!!! Sorry your mom can't go...but you'll have a BLAST!
I LOVE PARIS!!!! It's on my list again!
The subway system is VERY easy to use!

I can't believe you're leaving tomorrow! You're going to have a fantastic time! I loved the countdown they gave you!
I agree with Heather about finding current exhibits at the Louvre. We went in 2006 and my DH had a book that told you the top 10 things to see and what order to see them in so we decided to do that, but upon arrival they had moved some of the exhibits. I too want to hear your reaction about the Mona Lisa.
Sharon, Can't wait to hear all about the adventure!! Sorry your Dm couldn't go along but i know you'll meet lots of people and have fun!
We are considering an Adby Dis in 2012 when Dh has a 6 week sebaticle, we looked at the London Paris one and also the Ireland one so I am going to be anxiously awaiting your reports!
Wow! Sounds like you are going to have lots of fun--even without the details! I think it's so neat that you will be able to meet up with Mark, Cheryl & Karen. Have fun, Sharon! Not to rush things, but I can't wait for you to get back so I can read all about it. Safe travels!
Heather is dead on about the Louvre - - make sure to just pick a few pieces that you really want to see. I had to jump up and down to see Mona Lisa over the tons of people in front of me.
I hope that you love your lunch in the Eiffel Tower. I had a 4+ hour dinner there with 14 courses. Yummy!
I'm so Jealous!!!! It sounds like an amazing trip and I hope you have a Fantastic time and please please please take a lot of photos and eat lots of chocolate for me.
You didn't even have to ask!

I am going to try my best to be one of the first in the park too! And maybe get some shots of an empty park!

Thanks for the advice, Heather. I do have an idea of what I'd like to see if they just turn us loose.

And I'm with Heather - let us know if you have any plans to go to Hong Kong or Tokyo, you may find us joining you for a return trip to those as well!
We can talk about that this weekend.

Mickey's so happy to see me back, he can barely contain himself!
I am beyond excited for this trip. This is my first trip outside the continental U.S., so I’m happy to get to do a lot of “touristy” stuff on my first visit to these cities. I’m actually glad to be at work today, because I can use the distraction!
All the little details are taken care of. I’ve called my bank to let them know I’ll be traveling outside of the country, and they’ve noted it on my account. I’ve even sought out European Citibank locations, just in case. My rental phone has arrived, so I can keep in touch with my family (and it makes it a lot easier to connect with Chez and Karen).
I’ve got everything packed and ready to go. I’m working today because of the redeye flight. But I’ve checked in for my flight, so that’s all set. I’ve even checked out the in-flight movies (Dean Spanley, Milk, New In Town, Flashbacks of a Fool, Bride Wars, Valkyrie, Killshot, Hotel For Dogs, Layer Cake, Fantastic Four: The Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Bolt). There are a couple that I’ve been wanting to see, so I’m sure I’ll be well occupied when I’m not sleeping.
I plan to take lots of pictures. I’ve got a big enough memory card to take as many as I want, and I’ll be uploading them to my laptop each night, so there’s no worry of filling it up! I also just got a spare battery for the camera so I won’t have to worry about the battery going dead in the middle of the day.
There won’t be any text message love updates, but I am bringing my laptop. Depending upon the Internet access, I’m hoping to check in a few times to let you know how it’s going.
I'm ready! The only thing I’m worried about is getting a loud know-it-all on the tour, so send some no-jerk pixies for me!
