September Mediterranean Magic Trip Report updated 10/25/2017 - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm still looking at your hotel as an option, but currently we have a reservation at Hotel Barcelona Catedral. It's on another side of the cathedral from yours. We looked at some right on La Rambla, but I worried it could be loud at night.
We loved our hotel and location! Close enough, but still nice and quiet and that's WITH a festival going on in the street below in front of the cathedral!

I've come across them during my many hotel stays in Europe over the years!
That's what we thought at first too but it didn't seem to be set up correctly from others that we have seen. Mystery solved!

It was a beautiful night for a walk and there were a lot of people out and about. In a few short turns, we had found La Ramblas and headed down to find where our dinner and show would be tonight. We had no problem finding it and were too early! Since we had pre-purchased our tickets for this, they told us to go enjoy and come back basically at 7:30 when it started.
We wandered back up Las Ramblas and decided to stop at one of the many outdoor eateries for a “little” pre-dinner drink. A certain place had caught our eye on the way down so we wandered back to that one, although they were all pretty similar you probably couldn’t have gone wrong with any! Mind you, they are all very touristy, but in a good way There were also a bunch of cute little flower shops and your typical stores and hotels along the outside as well.
Mom and I easily found a table and were greeted by a very friendly staff. We both ordered the Mojito!
And then we got the check…
As you can tell, this was not your typical mojito, as these drinks were HUGE! We had a great time with them and sat and people-watched. The cost was not printed so we were not expecting such a big check, but the drinks were well-made and very sizable so it wasn’t too bad!
We finished up our drinks and headed back down the road to dinner. We easily checked in and were escorted upstairs to our table. The restaurant was small and cozy and there was a buffet set up in a small room as well. It almost felt like you were in someone’s house with a bunch of small rooms, we liked it!
We were greeted by their “signature” sangria cocktail and some fresh hummus and olives ready for us at the table. We enjoyed those bits before heading up to the buffet ourselves! Of course the signature dish was paella and the one negative about this place, they couldn’t keep it full on the buffet it was going so fast!
We made several trips up to the buffet, my favorite was actually a pasta dish but the paella was great too. The desserts were struggling to stay full as well but we eventually got them. We are slow eaters so in no time they were hurrying us along so we could go into the show. Those who purchased dinner got the first dibs on seats, and those just coming for the show filled in after, so they needed us to go in. We were the last one in from the dinner as we were just on dessert when they started moving people in, so our seats were in the “back”. However, the show area was also cozy so I don’t think there was a bad seat in the house!
The show was all in Spanish, so it was hard for me to follow along, but the music and dancing were mesmerizing in any language! The show was mostly a no-photo zone until the end, but then we were able to get some good ones! So now I’ll let a few photos give you a small taste of our traditional Flamenco experience!
We thoroughly enjoyed the show but were exhausted at this point. We simply walked back to the hotel, headed to our room, and went right to bed! A successful day getting to Spain!
Day 1
Location: Travel & Barcelona
Activities: Flight, Hotel, La Sagrada, Flamenco Show
Weather: Stunning!
Highlight: getting to wander Las Ramblas and get a taste of Spain!
Looks like a successful night in Barcelona! Your mojitos look quite tasty as well as your buffet meal too. Seems like the flamenco show was quite entertaining!

Wow, what a wonderful night - it looks like a huge amount of fun!
However, I still cannot believe this is the day you arrived in Spain after the red eye! We'd be way too exhausted to do anything like that on day one...
I wondered about the price tag when I saw the size of those drinks.
Where was the dinner show, and what was cost of that? Worth it? We'll arrive in Barcelona Wednesday night, and sail Saturday evening, so we'd have time for something like that.

We booked it intentionally to kind of force us into Barcelona time. That's why the afternoon nap was okay

It came up as "Flamenco Night at Tablao Cordobes" and it was $171 for both of us. We thought it was definitely worth it and a great little taste of the culture.

Day 2 - We’re really in Spain!
The first day of the trip was such a whirlwind it didn’t really hit me until I woke up the next morning that hey, I was in SPAIN! We had a pretty early start and a full day ahead, so we quickly got ready and headed down to breakfast which was included with our hotel rate with the package I booked.
Somehow mom found time to take a bunch of photos of our view again before the sun even came up while I was getting ready.
The dining room you saw in my first hotel posts was actually NOT where we would be eating breakfast, they had a second breakfast room in the basement for hotel guests and we found our way down. Thankfully mom had asked about it at another time and they told us or I think we would have been very confused this morning.
Once we were both ready we headed downstairs to breakfast and were a bit confused at first, but quickly all was rectified when a server came over and told us to sit anywhere and took our room number. We picked a table and went to investigate the options.
hot selections
yummy breads!
I eat so much more for breakfast on vacation...
As you can see, the spread was quite lovely. Not extensive, but the food selection that was there was tasty and fresh! Once we had our fill we headed back upstairs, took one last check of ourselves in the room and headed off to our destination.
Up Next: Day 2 - What time were we supposed to meet?
