As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Love the pictures!! I can't imagine riding on a train like that, it seems so strange! At least you had nice weather for your boring drive. And the location of the hotel seems great. Looking forward to more!!

Now you can take the train (like you did with Sue) or you can do the train when you sit in the car but she wanted to know could you just drive through the tunnel?
Told her I would ask...glad the drive to Paris went well until you got closer to teh city. The hotel room looks nice, yes I agree a bit plain, but comfortable enough but the proximity to the shopping and to Disneyland. Definitely not to be beat...
Love the pictures of their DTD....really cool and I liked the whole little Christmas Village shops.
Your train ride looks too cool. I showed my DH. That is the neatest thing. I would love to be able to do that. Disneyland Paris looks great. I love the little chalets. It is so nice seeing another part of the world. I hope to be able to go there myself one day. More please!

No, you can't drive through the tunnel. The only options are Eurostar (the train we took with Sue and Steve) and Eurotunnel (either sit in your car or the separate freight services).
Friday 19 December – part two: I wasn’t expecting you to be here!
At the end of the Disney Village, we walked past the Hotel New York and their tethered balloon, Panaramique that soars over Lake Disney, and then it was over to the Sequoia Lodge, where Sabine and Manuel were staying.

We had some difficulties finding the reception, as it’s not that straightforward when you come in from the parks to find it, but we got there in the end and they were waiting for us.
We walked back to the Disney Village, as we had dinner booked at 8.30 at Café Mickey, a character buffet. The line to get in was pretty long and that was just for those who had made reservations and it was a bit odd, the way they did things. They seemed to pick people randomly to take them to their tables. At least that’s how it felt. There just seemed to be no logic to it. Finally, we were seated, but we must’ve been in line for about 15 minutes by then.
As we entered, I saw a sight that I wasn’t expecting and I just stopped to gawp. It was my donkey boy, who was obviously in residence there. I couldn’t have been happier.
Anyway, let’s talk other things first. Sabine had told me that the food here was meant to be good and so it proved, with the appetiser. Mark and I decided to share the garlic mushrooms and these have to be the best garlic mushrooms that I’ve ever tasted. They were excellent and the clove of garlic we got with it was massive. Mind you, the one Sabine got was way bigger and she’s not that much of a fan of garlic, but Manuel helped her finish it off.
Then it was on to main course. The dishes here had some weird and wonderful names to them, so when Manuel said “I’ll have Lilo and Stitch”, meaning the soup, we couldn’t help but laugh. Mine was called Ariel’s Delight and, unsurprisingly, involved seafood with pasta, spinach and broccoli. The taste was lacking a bit and the pasta was a little cold, so it wasn’t a great hit with me.
Mark had Pluto’s steak and ended up with Manuel’s, while Manuel got Mark’s steak, which was more well done. I’m told it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t the best. Unfortunately for you guys, he totally failed to photograph his, so I can’t show you what it looked like.
However, let’s be honest, you don’t come to a character meal for the food and the characters were absolutely brilliant. It’s been a long time since I’ve laughed so much at and with the many characters we saw. There were so many too. As well as Eeyore, who was so in character with dropping shoulders, we saw Tigger, Mickey, Friar Tuck, Gepetto, the villain from Pinocchio (any offers anyone?!) , Pluto and King John and we even missed out on Mr. Smee, who just never made it to us. It was an odd selection of characters, with no rhyme or reason to the choices they had there. After all, wouldn’t you have all the Pooh characters there or Pinocchio with his fellow characters? Apparently not.
Gepetto came back near the end of the meal and was fascinated by Sabine’s folder of information about their trip
We were even visited twice by my donkey boy – the second time after he saw me, he went to see the others and got stuck coming out after he saw Mark!
Here Eeyore made an attempt to knock Mark out – he caught his head as he moved!
We had so much fun with the various characters. Highlights included the dances that they did. Whenever they announced a birthday here, they played what we could only describe as a techno version of Happy Birthday! There is nothing more funny or weird than watching Eeyore and Gepetto do a high energy dance to that music. Eeyore was jumping up and down and, as for Gepetto, when he’d finished it, he was brilliant. He went back to being an old man again and then moved very, very slowly to show how much the dancing had taken out of him. It was classic.
As for the service, it was pretty poor and very slow. We finally left just before 11.00, having been there for almost two and a half hours. It didn’t help that we had to ask for cutlery at least two or three times during the meal.

We came out of there and headed back to the station and there was a train waiting at the platform, a great benefit of having a terminus station, although we did sit there for about five minutes before it finally left. We were back at the hotel by 11.40 and it was straight to bed, as we would have a long day tomorrow.
Today we walked – well, I have no idea, as I forgot to bring the pedometer with us! The weather today was dry and in the 50’s. The best thing today was Café Mickey. The worst thing today was the traffic jams near Disneyland Paris. The funniest thing today was Gepetto and his dancing. Today we tried staying at the Hotel l’Elysee And the result was it’s in a great location. The most magical moment today was seeing my donkey.
Eeyore!!! That would have been the highlight of my evening too! How funny to see him and Gepetto dancing like that, and then back to normal afterwards. Too bad the meal wasn't the best, but at least the characters made up for it.
I have to also say I love that shot of the Sequoia at night (I'm assuming that's what it is..) and in the foreground is a little girl holding hands with each of her parents. That is adorable. I'm sure you didn't intend to capture that, but it's just a nice little family moment at Disneyland Paris!!
