The “Hurt So Good” TR or How You Can Feel Bad and Still Feel Good - UPDATED 10/17 COMPLETE!! - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I definitely get the extreme heat and humid! Hope it cooled down some over your stay. Jack Sparrow was awesome! You all had an incredible first day (except for that early tummy trouble). Glad the girls were so successful in their pin trading, too. I can't wait to see your MNSSHP costumes and your new Mickey shirt. And that special lady will be very excited, I'm sure.
So glad that you were feeling better and got to enjoy the day. You got a lot done today, what a wonderful way to start off your trip. Just seeing you in LTT makes me miss the meal, we had skipped it this trip (the girls were upset about the characters) but I have always loved the meal, glad everyone enjoyed.
Can't wait to hear how everyone enjoyed the parade.
Cory felt a bit better once I reminded her that we still had to use up our FPs for BTMRR – and now was the time to do it! But the heat and long day of walking had taken its toll on Kevin; he had a bad headache and said he’d rather not do BTM. He offered to walk with us, but we told him to just go find a bench to sit on and we’d call him when we got off BTM. With that, the girls and I took off for our last ride of the evening.
Even though we had FPs, the line was still pretty long but we breezed through fairly quickly. The sisters were ride partners which left me a seat to myself. I had never ridden BTMRR solo – and let me tell you, without someone seated next to you to help hold you in place, it really is the wildest ride in the wilderness!
We were tempted to get in line again, but it really was time to find our parade spot so we walked back towards the Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade and called Kevin on our cell. Unbelievably, he was sitting on a bench right across from it – exactly the spot I was going to try and sit for the parade!
And what does one husband do while he’s sitting on a bench, waiting for his wife and children to return from their adventures? If he’s bored, he makes friends with two of the birds walking around in the landscaping behind him – and takes about 3 minutes worth of video of them!
I congratulated him on picking the perfect bench for parade viewing. He wanted to know how much longer until the parade began – when I told him about 40 minutes, he rolled his eyes and gave a big sigh and I knew he wished he was back on the bus to the resort. Time for an explanation that if we got up from this bench now, I could pretty much guarantee that it wouldn’t be available come parade time. Already people were beginning to gather and the CMs were putting up the ropes down the parade route.
As a suggestion, I told him he could take the girls and ride, ohhh, say, the Magic Carpets or something nearby – but he said his feet wouldn’t take any more walking. Instead, we all sat on the bench and used some snack credits to get some sodas; watching people come and go.
Kelley and Cory decided to walk over to The Frontier Trading Post and then hurried back to tell us Cory had pin traded with a CM. They enjoyed being ‘grown-up’ enough to have a little time to themselves (while Mom and Dad watched from across the street!)
We had no idea of what to expect from Spectromagic – but when the first lighted float approached, we knew we would love it. I think the photos tell the story well. These were captured from video, so they’re a bit fuzzy.
After a last bathroom stop of the night (during which I used my time well to do some shopping at one of the stores across the way!) we headed down to Main Street, stopping to get some final Photopass shots and take a few of our own.
We got to the flag pole just as Wishes was about to begin. We took video and I think other people have much better photos to share, so I’ll post just a few. Good thing I wasn’t doing the camera, ‘cause I cried through the whole thing!
We were one of the first people at the POR bus – and only a moment later, our bus arrived. We were back to our resort in no time, tired, hot and sticky, but happy from a super day at MK. I didn’t have a hard time leaving MK this time (it’s always the most difficult park for me to say goodbye to) as I knew I’d be back the next day.
And we had surprises awaiting us in our room – our Mousekeeper was very skilled at towel animals and left two of them for us!
And then we discovered that Mickey himself must have stopped by while we were out – because he left Cory a beautiful birthday card and autographed photo!
I think I’ll follow Cheryl’s (chezp) example and wrap up our day the Passporter way… The weather today was…hot and humid! The best thing today was…meeting the Fairies and staying for Spectromagic and Wishes The worst thing today was…all the bathroom breaks The funniest thing today was…Kevin maxing out his score on Buzz Today we tried…VitaMotion-S for motion sickness and the result was…No motion sickness!!! The most magical moment today was…meeting Tinkerbell and watching the girls’ faces as they talked to her.
A great finish to a wonderful day!
Can't wait to read more!

What a great day! Glad you were able to find Cindy's horse! I know what you mean about wishing you took more photos; no matter how many pics I come home with, there are always some I know I missed! Your nighttime shots were particularly good; I still have trouble with those!
And just so you know, we saw the pirate tutorial in the exact same spot on our spring 2008 trip!

I'm all caught up. Sounds like you had a wonderful day at MK. Sorry to hear that your tummy troubles almost stopped you from going in the AM, but glad to hear it cleared up once you got to MK. Also, wonderful photos. More please
Here are some of our Photopass photos from the first day. We didn't turn out to be the most photogenic family - but at least they bring back memories! I love our squinting in the bright sun in some of these!
Iridessa prepares to give Cory a hug; I don't know what Kelley's looking at - probably Iridessa's shoes!
You can tell Kelley is showing Tink her Tinkerbell lanyard here.
