Two Foodies, More Tables and Disney At Christmas (Yes, it's STILL about the food!)--A TR - Page 4 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Update: We are HERE at the GF, and it's as gorgeous as ever!
Arrival was as gracious and efficient as only the GF does it.
After verifying our advance checkin at the lobby concierge desk, we were escorted by CM Kayla up to the 3rd floor CL concierge, Meggan, who double-checked our room's readiness (almost but not quite) and chatted merrily with us until we excused selves. We had to hustle over to Narcoosee's for brunch.
Yes, YES! Most emphatically for Narcoosee's new brunch.
Details to follow whenever.
Annnnnd, WE GOT A TURRET ROOM. Better still, it has a crane-your-neck view of the CASTLE!!!!
(ETA: Are we still the luckiest dogs or what? Some of you may recall my saying in our PTR that we got a deal plus pin code that saved us a cool $3000 over what this stay was going to cost us last year in Value season.
We don't have a neck-craning Castle view. I had looked out a window to the right of the tv-dvd player armoire for that view.
After I posted, Drew said, "Dot, come look here," pointing out the window in the foyer to the LEFT of the armoire. We have a DIRECT, straight-ahead view of the Castle! It should be stunning once lighted at night!!!!!
This wasn't just a garden variety good deal plus pin code. It is an über-MAGICAL one, because a Castle view costs extra which we were not about to pay last year anyway and didn't this year either. Essentially, we got a view upgrade for $3k LESS.)
More to follow. But, first, we're off to Gaspy's to get our refillable mugs and then to Basin White and the other shops.
Weather is sunny and deliciously warm. Our practically perfect trip remains Mary Poppinsish in every way.

We just stood at one window in our room tonight to watch Holiday Wishes. Perfect view of the aerial show and a pretty good one of the Castle's matching color schemes. Some spectacular fireworks without a doubt. We'll hardly want to go anywhere around Wishes time all week. About the only places the view would be better would be in Cali Grill or inside the MK itself!
This isn't merely my "A dream come true" trip; it's become my "More dreams than I dared dream coming true" trip!!!

Sorry you all had some traffic slow downs on the way there, but that room and its view should totally erase that memory. So glad you all are having the most magical experiences.
Glad you had a nice arrival but had to rush a bit for Narccoossee's. A bit tough when driving down that day but as it's a brunch, perhaps a later one (if there was one) may have been the best thing to do. This is considering traffic, rest stops and other things that happen on a long drive.
Nice time with Wishes as I guess it ended not long ago. Forget, it begins much earlier this time of year as used to 9 or 10 pm when I go in April or May usually.
Most likely, a fall trip for me perhaps this year and experience my first ever Epcot F&W Fest. I've put this off far too long and time to do it! Especially, being the foodie that I am and this is my territory! Perhaps, late September during the slow season before resort rates increase...even though a bit hot still! We shall see!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Love that you're getting an extra dose of magic! Watching wishes from my room is a top favorite for me, but just isn't always in the cards to stay on the monorail.
Completely awesome that you got a big dose of Disney magic & Pixie dust especially on this most dreamt of Disney trips. Hope the trip continues to be magical for you both. Enjoy your needed rest after your long day. Can't wait to hear how the brunch & tea were.
so awesome that you could watch wishes from your room!
I usually avoid the word "awesome" like the proverbial plague myself because it's soooooo overused when there are gobs of wonderful synonyms, BUT this is one time I gotta employ "THAT word" myself: The room is tee-totally AWESOME!!!!

i didn't even know there was such a thing as a turret room.
If you've ever looked across the lagoon from the Poly, I'm sure you've casually noticed the GF's turrets, but you probably never considered there could be guest rooms INSIDE those things. We sure didn't waaaay back in '04 when we stayed at the CR. The GF was kinda just over there and really pretty and mostly white with multi-level red roofs. It was just there, and people definitely NOT US stayed there.
Then, in 2010, WE got a turret room on the front side overlooking the monorail which was semi-cool but not awesomely cool because it hadn't a Castle glimpse even.
And that was the origin of my "Wishing upon a star, dreaming of a Christmas GF stay--maybe someday (most likely never)" dream.
After all, Rodgers and Hammerstein's lyrics nailed it. What you think impossible that simply ain't never gonna happen? The Disney magic might decide to show you that just such "Impossible things are happening every day." That would be me. I'm from Missouri, the Show Me State, and boy-oh-boy did I ever get shown!
I'll be SURE to update when I see a pumpkin and mice...well, you know what. :::::giggling::::

As usual for you, Dave, you've considered and listed all the eminently reasonable and sensible concerns leading any reasonable and sensible person to conclude that scheduling an ADR so soon after a loooooong drive could easily end by costing us ten bucks per person because we simply couldn't make it in time.
Except...I've always been a "dewy-eyed dope" given to dreaming things that would easily render Mr. Banks red-faced and shouting, "IMPOSSIBLE, Mary Poppins! Simply impossible!"
Yeah, in real life, we did indeed consider all your quite reasonable concerns and thought we were gonna be cutting it ridiculously close.
However, we REALLY REALLY wanted Afternoon Tea on arrival day again as we'd had last year and enjoyed so very much as early dinner. And then, we heard about the new Narcoosee's brunch and really wanted it on arrival day as well. Things kind of went snickety-snick from there. After that, "If you can believe it, you CAN do it" just plain took over and did it for us. The drive from Atlanta went smoothly, precisely as wished for and required. In short, we arrived with a good 40 minutes for completing check-in and getting over to Narcoosee's. (Nevermind how fast Drew drove to get us here in time. < huge, semi-guilty grin >)

Cultivate your inner "dewy-eyed dope" is my unsolicited advice to you, Dave.
:::::singing terribly off-key::::
"Such fol-der-ol and fid-dle-dy dee of course, is--- Impossible!
But the world is full of zanies and fools
Who don't believe in sensible rules
And won't believe what sensible people say.
And because these daft and dewey[sic]-eyed dopes keep building up impossible
Hopes,
Impossible things are happening every day."

Update: A perplexing and worrisome problem solved late last night
We had finished Afternoon Tea and were wandering about the lobby taking in all the goings-on and enjoying the band music when I told Drew I simply HAD to get back to our room to get out of the high heels I wore for Afternoon Tea. My feet were killing me and then some! (Yes, I did get all gussied with hat and heels for Afternoon Tea. Photo to be posted eventually, I promise.)
Long story slightly shorter, I changed into jeans and sneaks. We sorta went ::::huge shrug::: "It's scarcely even 6:30, and we're Much Too Excited To Relax And Get To Sleep Sensibly Early." (Y'all know that one, I bet. )
So, we decided to hop on the monorail over to the CR to check out the gingerbread mural and our fave shops there.
Did that and then were still full-o-beans wanting to go and do some more. I suggested going on to the Poly which we did. (Really REALLY TOTALLY LOVE the new lobby even though a lot of Poly-lovers simply hate-hate-HATE that all the plants and the waterfall are gone.)
As we headed toward Moana Mercantile, Drew said something on his powerchair was worrisomely going click-click-click. There was so much noise all around us that I couldn't hear it. He insisted it might be something stuck on the back wheel, the one nearest me. We stopped, and he slowly rolled ahead as I examined that wheel for something stuck to it. Nothing.
Finally, we gave up trying to determine what it might be, got back onto the monorail and came home where Drew very sensibly got into bed. Not Silly Dot, of course. I was thirsty and feeling dehydrated so took both our refillable mugs up a floor to the CL Lounge to get a drink. Brought Drew's mug back to him and then took off again carrying mine, still too excited and restless to get into bed yet.
Went down to Gaspy's and was walking along the veranda when I began noticing this regular click-click-click. Soon thereafter, I realized I could feel something irregular on the sole of my left shoe, not at all coincidentally the shoe that was nearest the back wheel of Drew's powerchair earlier.
I stepped aside and scraped my shoe sole on the edge of a sidewalk. A strange-shaped piece of metal popped off and landed in the flowerbed. I picked it up. It was a Disney pin that someone had lost, and I had stepped on!
And that was obviously the source of our worrisome and mystifying click-click-click. Is that too funny or what?

Sounds like a great start to the trip so far - I'm glad you liked the Poly lobby, we're fans too and I was surprised that so many people appeared to dislike it. I honestly couldn't see why.
Glad you enjoyed the new Poly lobby ... I believe I will be in the crowd of unhappy bc I loved the old one.
As for your clicking noise - funny but 2 days ago my mom called me into the kitchen saying something was wrong with my kids slippers bc it was ming a tapping noise, after looking at him walk & jump, I shool my head and clearly said it was Marshall's nose clicking off the floor. Good thing the pin didn't puncture through to your foot. Hoping the pin was one you didn't have. LOL
