PTR: The Dunning Family's Triumphant Return to the World - Page 39 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I hope you get Bri's results soon. How frustrating it must be not to know. Hope it's just a scare and she doesn't have Type 1. Lots of positive thoughts.

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Just catching up - so sorry to hear about Brianna. So scary. Just remember not to panic. Was there a reason you originally took Brianna to the new clinic (check up or symptoms)? Just thinking that while I totally get being extremely disappointed & frustrated over not having the labs (not acceptable IMO) - unless she was actually ill or having reoccurring symptoms then I would just try to put it out of your head and just enjoy your trip bc had her appointment been scheduled after the trip uou wouldn't know either way. Positivity will get you far! As will patience and understanding bc she will not have any if she is diagnosed with type 1 so you will have to shoulder it all (oh wait that's what mommys do)! I am still praying for you all and sending more Pixies to get you through this too.

VERY excited for you!!! SO close! But sorry about the uncertainty with Bri. I've never dealt with it personally, but it seems odd to me that they would only take a urine sample to test for diabetes??! I would think a blood draw is going to produce much more accurate results. Regardless, I hope you have some answers before you go. Prayers and pixie dust for all of you!
First off, I'll update about Briana. (I'm totally doing the mom over-share thing, so feel free to scroll through until you see ANYWAY, and that's where the Disney stuff starts. )
The whole thing has been a frustrating mess. We originally took her into the clinic thinking she had a UTI. She was exhibiting some symptoms of it, but we didn't know for sure because it's hard to get straight answers out of three year old's sometimes.
So the doctor comes in after Briana gives a urine sample and says "Just from a preliminary look at the sample, it doesn't look like she has a UTI." Then she starts asking about our family history with diabetes and all sorts of questions about other symptoms Briana may have been having. She says she is concerned about Type 1, then basically says "We will know more after the labs, talk to you soon," and walks out without even giving me the opportunity to ask questions.
This was all on Tuesday. I called on Thursday to find out about the lab results and was told they didn't have the results yet. I don't understand what took so long. At the girls' normal pediatrician's office, they have us wait in the room until the labs come back, so I was a bit annoyed and frustrated at the 2-3 day wait time.
On Friday, they finally call me back, and they tell me "Briana has a UTI. We also want her to come in and give another 'clean catch' urine sample to figure out some more information." I asked about the diabetes thing and they said they couldn't tell me anything because there was no note in the file. I asked why they needed another sample and they wouldn't tell me anything.
So I gather her right up, leave Chelsea with David, and head immediately to the clinic. We go back and she gives a sample and then I come to the front desk and start getting a little bit pushy. My Mama Bear was coming out, as I was not happy and felt like I was getting jerked around. I wanted some answers.
I asked to see the actual test results from the first urine sample, and wanted to know why no antibiotic had been called in since she had a UTI.
Here's where my story gets just mind boggling.
The medical receptionist pulled up the chart and started reading the chart to me (she offered to print it but someone was printing something long behind her and I wanted to hear it now, not later, so I asked her to read it out loud to me).
VERY FIRST THING ON THE CHART: BRIANA DOES NOT HAVE A UTI.
I held up my hand. "Excuse me...did you just say she doesn't have a UTI?"
"Yes, that's correct. She does not."
"That's really, really frustrating. I was told that she had a UTI when you guys called me earlier, and no one would tell me why they wanted us to come in for another sample and why no antibiotics had been called in. What in the world is going on here?"
"Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry. No, she does NOT have a UTI. If she did, they would have called in an antibiotic for her right away. It says here they wanted to do another sample to double check, because although she doesn't have a UTI, there was a minuscule amount of blood in her urine, and they wanted to make sure there was nothing else going on. I'm SO sorry for the confusion, I do not know why they told you she had a UTI when she doesn't."
"Okay, now what about the diabetes thing? Did they screen for that?"
She looked at the chart. "Sample was negative for glucose, ketone normal...everything is normal except for the tiny amount of blood."
"Okay. When can we expect the results of this test?"
"Monday or Tuesday."
"Can you PLEASE put a note in there that I am going out of town next week, and I really need to know if this is something to be concerned over or not?"
She put a note in there but also told me she didn't know if it would make a difference. I thanked her for her time, took my printed copy of the test results, got Bri home, and told David I needed twenty minutes to calm down.
My blood was boiling. I went into the bedroom, shut the door, and called my dad. I was SO angry, and I just needed to vent without the kids hearing me. He was pretty furious about how the situation was handled as well. Terrible breakdown in communication, and I didn't like how the doctor didn't give me the chance to ask questions before she left, or that they just completely gave me the wrong diagnosis over the phone. I miss the girls' regular doctor!
*sigh* Just a few more weeks. Just a few more weeks. Just a few more weeks.
ANYWAY.
Moving on to Disney. I've packed the girls' checked bag. Yay! I thought I was all done packing the other day for them until I consulted my packing list and realized I had forgotten to put in underwear and socks for Bri, and socks for Chelsea. And then, of course, when I went to their dresser, all of the socks and underwear were missing. It took a lot of searching to find them last night. My girls are very good at getting clothes out of their dresser and putting them in random spots. Chelsea is especially fond of doing that. She's obsessed with drawers right now.
I am working on laundry and putting aside the clothes David and I will be taking with us. David is almost as horrible as the girls when it comes to not keeping his clothes where they belong, so I finally told him he needed to hunt down all his socks and underwear. I'm too pregnant to be crawling around looking under the bed for a grown man's clothes. He sheepishly apologized and promised to start putting them in the hamper. We will see how that goes.
AJ is coming over about 11 on Friday to spend the day at our house to help distract the girls while we finish up getting ready. We are also going to Costco and Winco Foods on Friday to buy snack foods for the trip that were too expensive with Garden Grocer or that we need on the plane or whatever. We figure that way he can get what he wants and we won't be worried about him not liking what we choose. Not that he would complain - which is why I want him there to choose something he likes!
My friend Ashley came over today and helped me power through cleaning my kitchen. Depression makes it hard for me to keep up sometimes, and the kitchen was feeling way too overwhelming for me. She helped me get it almost completely clean before she had to take off. I still need to unload the dishwasher and sweep and mop the floors, but that feels completely manageable compared to the way it was before! Now I can come home to a clean kitchen.
David and I are also planning on getting all laundry done before we leave, and just housework in general. Nothing worse than coming home from vacation to a messy house. We made great progress today, and I think we'll be completely done by Wednesday. Woo hoo!
I think I'm rambling now...And I need to go sleep, it's ten minutes until one o'clock!
Oh my goodness! I would be absolutely FURIOUS!! That is beyond unbelievable and I would now be hesitant to believe ANYTHING they had to say! Is there anyone you can go and complain to about this entire situation?
Glad to hear you are ready to go and packing up! I spent the weekend doing laundry and packing as well! It's getting very close!!
That's a terrible experience from the doc's office. Don't blame you one bit about being peeved! Hopefully the second sample comes back negative for everything!
Oh Jess I am so sorry about the ongoing confusion and communication breakdown at the doctors. Nothing is worse than feeling out of control regarding your kids health. I know that feeling all too well. Glad you were able to vent to your Dad and remember we Passporters are always here to listen/read a needed vent. My only other suggestion is stay on top of it which you are already doing. Perhaps you should look into what pharmacy near Disney your health care would cover just in case they decide to prescribe something after you depart. This way you would have the info at hand if they need it.
You will be Disney dancing soon! Group Hugs & Pixies to hold you till then...
That Dr needs to attend some training with the ethics committee of the AMA. Hope fully it was just a random sugar spike they were seeing
Have a great time and try to relax and enjoy yourself Who deserves it more than you??
