First Ever Disneyland Trip Updated 10/13 - Page 39 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

The meds do seem to be doing the trick. Sometimes I wish we had more of the events that bigger cities have, but overall our city does have quie a bit of fun happening.

I find cranberry juice quickens the recovery from a UTI. And can sometimes stop one in its tracks if I realize it's coming.....
The air show and bridge walk both look Sounds like you had a fun weekend, despite not feeling 100%.
I remember a friend telling me that she would drink cranberry juice when she felt a UTI was coming on, so I had bought some Saturday, but when I was hurting more on Monday, I knew I would be better off seeing the doctor. I'm still drinking the juice, too.

Hope that you feel better. Cranberry juice is really good. The doctor also advised my DH to drink water with lots of fresh lemons in it. He had a stone, and I am assuming the acidity in the lemon juice help break up the stones or keep them from getting too big.
Feel better!
I had a kidney stone immediately after our October trip last year, so this year I'm having the UTI before the October trip.

I'm so glad I went to the doctor yesterday because I'm more comfortable today.

What a fun air show! Sorry about the UTI. I tend to get them often. As a teacher I am surprised you haven't had one before. I think we tend to et them more often because we can't go to the bathroom whenever we need to lol!

After I had my first kidney stone over 20 years ago, I made sure I found time for the restrooms at work. So that may have helped.

We couldn't have asked for better weather. We are getting so close now.
This UTI has been a roller coaster ride. By Monday evening, I felt somewhat better. Tuesday was a very good day, and that thankfully allowed me to make two commitments I had made quite some time back. First, I had a luncheon with the ladies I used to volunteer with at the clothes closet, which is now closed. One of the ladies oldest daughters has lymphoma and has been going through some very difficult chemo treatments and in over a week will undergo a stem cell transplant. Donna organized the luncheon to thank us for praying for her daughter. I really enjoyed being with these friends again. Later in the evening I attended a Ruby Payne training as a part of my volunteer job at Care Net. The instructor was so lively and informative, giving us great ideas on how to better serve our clients. So I felt I was on the road to recovery.
Wednesday after our four mile walk, I was tired and a bit achy. In fact, I felt asleep on the couch at 11:00 AM. I awoke at noon and fixed lunch, feeling a little improved. But at 12:30 Luke’s mom called to let us know they were about two hours from where we needed to pick her up, a town that is actually two hours from here. I quickly showered and we were out of her by 1:20. The car ride was not very comfortable and I only had Luke stop once for a restroom. We picked a McDonald’s about an hour into the trip in a very small town. We walked in the doors and straight to the restrooms where I joined a line of older ladies on a bus tour. Not exactly what I wanted to see, but about 15 minutes later I had my turn. Poor Luke had to wait for me. We got to our cousin’s house just a minute after she and Mamaw returned. We visited for about a half hour or so before hitting the road again. I was just fine at the house but the car was just not doing me any favors. By the time we got home I was tired again, but feeling less sore.
I woke up this morning feeling chipper, and Luke and I went out for our four mile walk, though I did ask to walk slower than yesterday as I really didn’t want to be napping again in the morning. I started a little fall project in hopes of adding some decorations to our porch. I went out to sweep it off, but realized that sweeping wasn’t going to cut it. So I asked Luke for help scrubbing it done. We both had brushes and bucket of soapy water plus the garden hose. I’m proud of how clean it looks now. But that whole process did me in. When I came in from lunch, I was pretty much done for the day. I did go back out and helped Luke move all the furniture and stuff back to the porch. We scrubbed them down, too, and placed them in the sun to dry. But I didn’t feel like doing any of the decorating. The pain intensified after lunch, causing me to fear a kidney stone. I simply could not get comfortable. Luke encouraged me to call the doctor’s office as she had told me to come back if I did not improve. Unfortunately, she is out the rest of the week, but her Physician’s Assistant can see me tomorrow at 9:00. Eventually, I decided a hot shower with the massaging spray might help. And it did quite a bit. A part of me has debated about keeping tomorrow’s appointment, but we have a big weekend planned and I don’t want to miss it, so I’m going to go in just to be sure.
Saturday we are headed back to Mount Washington where we just were yesterday as Luke’s cousins are hosting a big 90th birthday party for Luke’s aunt who happens to share a birthday with our son (September 18/tomorrow), Kevin. She was so sweet sending us a birthday card every year after he died until she go Alzheimer’s. We definitely want to be part of honoring her. From there we are heading to Glasgow as Monday, September 21, is Daddy’s 87th birthday. We will be staying overnight and celebrating on Sunday. I really need to be healthy for all that celebrating.
As to Disney, on Tuesday I talked with Luke about the PhotoPass+ since we were officially three weeks from arrival at DLR. We decided it would be best to go ahead and order, so once we got back to the house, I got online and worked through the maze that is the Disneyland website to find it and then had to figure out how to get DL website and the Disney PhotoPass website to put it into my cart. But finally my order was processed. Yesterday, I received an e-mail that our order had shipped. It should easily arrive before we leave in 19 days.
Now we are watching Thursday night football. The Broncos are one of our favorite teams, and this year we have another reason to root them on. Our hair stylist’s new son-in-law has just joined the team after spending all summer at the Green Bay Packers training camp. We have supported him there, too, but this so much more fun. She told us he might be playing special teams tonight.
I'm glad you decided to keep the doctor appointment for tomorrow. You do have a big weekend coming up and very big trip coming up in less than 3 weeks! There may be something stronger they can prescribe that will knock it out!
You do have a big weekend planned! That is so sweet about the 90th birthday! What a wonderful way to honor her. My grandma has Alzheimer's and it is horrible. I hope your UTI isn't turning into a kidney infection. I had one of those six months ago and that knocked me down for awhile. Keep us posted! And pixies and prayers coming your way.
