Going north, south, east and west - UPDATED 12/18 - Page 39 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Wednesday 22 October – part five: what are you doing to Piglet?
However, it was a different story with the Bay Lake Tower models. It quickly became clear that the one bedroom villas are going to be very roomy here, but not so much the studios. That’s worth knowing. They are very much playing on the fact that the Magic Kingdom can be viewed from the resort, but only about 20% of the rooms will have those views. Why do I suspect that those will sell out at the 11 month mark? I doubt very much that we’ll ever get to enjoy one of those views, as we have no plans to buy there.
The inside of the models was very different to what I had expected. I didn’t expect so many vibrant and different colours in there room. Somehow, I thought that it would be more slick and grey, but not a tall. I don’t mind it, but it just didn’t grab me. I have no doubt that we will stay here some time in the future, whenever we can get in here, but it’s unlikely to ever be at the top of my list of DVC resorts.
We headed back to the room for a break. I went down to the lobby to see if I could get breakfast for somewhere else, other than the Cape May Café. No offence against it, but we’ve got all the characters from there, so I thought it would be nice to try somewhere else. I tried for Cinderella’s Royal Table, but again no luck and it was the same story with the Princess Storybook Breakfast and ‘Ohana. So I gave up on the characters for tomorrow and went for the Wave instead. We were due to have lunch there, but we wanted to go to Beaches and Cream instead to see Delores, as we knew that she would be working tomorrow. At least that way, we would get to try the Wave out. It’s just a shame that T-Rex doesn’t do breakfast or we would’ve tried that one out. During the course of the conversation, the Cast Member told me how impressed she was with my knowledge of Disney restaurants. Well, I would hope that I’ve picked up a few things over the years.
While I was there, a huge tour came through. Oh my goodness, they were loud! There were so many of them and all I could think was “at least they’re unlikely to be staying at the Beach Club.”
Then later it was out to Animal Kingdom Lodge for dinner at Boma with Lori (MinnieLor) and her DH Glenn. We valet parked and, as we couldn’t see Lori and Glenn, we headed out to the savannah to see who was around. There were a couple of zebra out there and some cattle, but that was about it. Soon we had a call from Lori to say that they were there, so we headed back to the lobby to meet up with them.
We didn’t have long to wait for our table and then it was off to the buffet. I enjoyed the food here, but somehow it just wasn’t quite as excellent to me as on previous occasions. It didn’t help that some of my favourite soups weren’t on the menu, but the carrot and ginger soup and the seafood stew with couscous were great finds. Again, the Kool Slaaiwas one of my favourite finds, but somehow the Fufu wasn’t as good. It seemed to be more stodgy then in the past. The salmon wasn’t as good as I had hoped either.
The coconut dessert didn’t disappoint. We thought that the warnings that the desserts had alcohol in them was new. I certainly don’t recall seeing that before on previous visits. My goodness, you didn’t need any warning about this dish though. It was swimming in alcohol and you could taste it immediately you took a bite of it. The biggest disappointment though was the zebra domes. I don’t know what they’ve done to these, but they tasted awful. It tasted to me like they are now using cheap white chocolate in them, rather than the previous presumably more expensive stuff. It just didn’t go with the filling, which was a great shame.
Our server was fine, but a little slow on removing our plates. She didn’t really try to engage with us, so not our best meal. Don’t get me wrong though – although this all sounds negative, it’s still a great restaurant with very unusual good and we will continue to go back there, but I hope I’m more impressed on our next visit there. I guess when you’re close to perfection – and Boma is – it’s easy to sometimes come in a little less than perfect.
Boma:
Appetiser 9½ 7½
Entrée 7½ 8½
Dessert 8½ 8
Service 7½ 8
Atmosphere 9 9
Value for money 8½ 8½
Average score: 8.33
We had a great time with Lori and Glenn – it was so nice to be able to spend more time with them, after only briefly meeting them at the Halloween Party. Very kindly, Lori bought us both presents – an Eeyore beanie for me, which was wonderful, and a Piglet one for Mark – although he didn’t take so kindly to it. What am I going to do with him?
We said our goodbyes to Lori and Glenn and headed back to the room. It had been a long day and we were soon in bed and asleep.

Boma $53.98

Today we walked 3.95 miles The weather today was a bit colder at Kennedy Space Centre and less sunny, but the temperatures were still in the 70’s and then it was hot and sunny with temperatures in the 80’s back in Orlando. The best thing today was seeing inside T-Rex. The worst thing today was how little they’ve done with the Kennedy Space Centre since we were there last. Today we tried breakfast at Spoodles And the result was it was very nice. The most magical moment today was getting that Pooh and Piglet fleece for a third of the price it is in the parks.
I absolutely adore the color scheme of the new BLT and wish I could get my hands on the bed coverings. I agree, the studios are too small.
I don't know if we'll get to stay there either, but at some point we're sure going to try!
Glad you had a great time with Lori and Glenn!! I felt the same way with Boma the last time I ate there. While good, it just wasn't as great as before.
That's a nice pic of the four of you! Mark does look like he's enjoying his knife a little too much, at Piglet's expense... but then, bacon is bacon! ya know?

True... Great update, Cheryl! I love the look of Boma, especially the seating area. Too bad the zebra domes didn't taste well. I've never tried one myself but have heard that they were delicious. I guess I'll need to taste one myself next time we're at the Animal Kingdom Lodge

Wonderful updates, Cheryl! We had so much fun with both you and Mark. As my memory serves me, we closed the place down ~ didn't we? I'm so glad that you liked your Eeyore and that it was one that you didn't have. Mark's reaction to piglet was priceless. He probably wonders "Does EVERYONE know about my experience with Piglet?"
Looking forward to more and also your DLP TR. Celebrating my birthday in style ~ glad somebody gets to If I don't tell you before hand ~ have a marvelous time! and

BLT looks a little too, well, contemporary for me. I think I'd go for something like Beach Club, Boardwalk (which is what they were selling the first time we did a presentation) or even the original Key West villas. But, in order to "go for something" I'd have to convince DH to want to do it. And that darn 50 year limit is a sticking point for both of us!
Loving the updates, Cheryl, but I really want to see you get to Disneyland and, most importantly, Vegas!
Finally just got caught up with your last few posts...what fun you had over at 1900 Park Fare, I am sure that the Tremaine's will be talking about Mark for a long time . Your time at MNSSHP seemed well worth it, great meets, wonderful photos, and you got to see your Eyeore and Mark got to see his Dwarfs. I can't think of a night getting any better.
Sorry your day at KSC wasn't as great as you had hoped. But breakfast at Spoodles and dinner at Boma sounded yummy and the day got even better by finding a great deal on your fleece.
Lovely pictures of the new DVC rooms. I took the tour as well and must say I like the rooms much better in person. The studios ARE quite snug, but I do like the kitchentte and bathroom!! Not bad if it is just two people, but I would feel claustrophobic in there with 4!
Sorry about your dinner at Boma! I'm still up for trying it! I did try the zebra domes from Mara and though they were tasty I didn't find them irresistable. Perhaps the change in ingredients is why?
Had a great time at dinner that night. Mark is a real cutup -- I had heard the story about his encounter with Piglet, but this was a real treat. Mark and Cheryl are two of the greatest --
their trip reports are the first things I look for when I log on my computer in the morning. More More More
Great photos of BLT!! I don't really like the color scheme either, it just doesn't jump out at me. Sounds like great company for dinner even though dinner itself was not up to par.
