The Promise of Spring: Flower & Garden Festival 4.0 -- A Cam and Luke TR COMPLETED 8/27 - Page 38 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Love, love all your Rivers of Light photos! I had no idea what the story line was when I saw ROL and I totally understood the storyline. I loved it, it completely has magic in it. Love the floats, the water show, the music is amazing!! I want a CD of it if they ever come out with one. But as you say not everything at Disney is for everyone.
You had a fabulous day, thanks for bringing us along.
Wow! I cannot wait to see ROL! Some of your dusk pictures look more like paintings than photos because of the lighting. Love that!
Did you happen to notice at all where handicapped seating might be? I am hoping for the dining package - I already have an ADR for Tiffins that I hope to convert, but we still may be using Mike's wheelchair so would need handicapped seating (assuming what you were in were bleachers?)
Rivers of light looks beautiful, I can't wait to see it the next time we go. I love animals and I don't think I will miss fireworks at this park. ( There are so many at other parks) I'm sure we will love it, plus getting to stay in ak after dark is cool
Wow...Rivers of Light looks spectacular! While I enjoy fireworks, this is more my kind of show. Thanks for sharing your amazing photos and description of it!
Animal Kingdom is our favorite park. I did hear many people not to happy with the ROL show. You are right, what is great and awesome for some are not for others. I personally think I will enjoy the show and so will my DGD and my DGS. All the pictures are beautiful and your narration of it was great.
My DD, DGd and I will be taking a girl's birthday trip in September and we have a ressie at Tusker House and seating for the 1st River of Light show in the evening. Thanks for the preview! Can't wait to see in person.
Thank you for the wonderful description of the show! I am really looking forward to seeing it. Good idea to hang back a bit to avoid the shoulder to shoulder crowds. We'll probably do the same thing. But I'm not looking forward to the masses of people waiting for the busses!
Our November trip will have us staying much further away than AKL, so I really don't look forward to the lengthy bus wait. Maybe we'll hang out longer in the park before heading to the bus stop.

But with your photos I know how good of a show it is, but I will not watch video of it before my trip! Glad you had great seats for the show via the dining package and I'm sure those are better than a FP+ option as you are paying for the former and is the way to go!
I can't believe you had to wait for the fifth or sixth bus to the AKL! Wishes and Illuminations have generally been the worst for lines at park closing with the buses and I don't think I've been on more than a third bus as I find a way to get there quickly and can snake my way through the crowds as I've gotten accustomed to doing at WDW with lots of experience !
Once again, awesome job with the ROL show coverage!!!
Thanks! We do feel that the dining package is worth it for the specific seating area. It was also a great deal on dinner at Tiffins.

I'm trying to remember and I don't know if you do - at what point were you able to book dining packages for this?
For this trip I was able to get the reservation the day they were first opened up so fairly close to the 180 days mark, I think. But I'm trying right now to get one for the November trip. Park Hours are not up and neither are show times, so no reservation are being taken yet for ROL dining packages. September and October just opened up in June with a shortened schedule of Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. In the spring it was showing every night.
You captured the show beautifully, it is making me so excited for our Oct trip.
Thanks! Going through my photos for this update got me excited about going back for this in November.

It's tough at night's end after a long day to have to wait for a bus that long but it sounds like the show was well worth it.
Thanks so much! There were people still filing in for the standby seating just minutes before the show so I would guess you could get a seat. Since we'd rested in the afternoon and sat for a an extended time waiting for and watching the show, the wait at the bus stop didn't seem to terrible. But our feet were tired for sure.

Oh, my!! Your pictures are gorgeous and I know I will thoroughly love the Rivers of Lights. Thank you for giving such an in depth description of it.
Thanks so much! I was sure I'd love the show and it did not disappoint.

I'd also buy a CD of it, and hopefully, there will be one as I have one for every other nighttime show.

Thanks! I really had fun with photos this evening.
If my memory is correct, handicap seating was along the top of the amphitheater and there were some sections in the dining package area.

Rivers of Light is amazing! Now I see why it took so long to open.
Luke had read quite a bit about this show prior to its opening. A big part of the problem was the technology of the floats. Some of them were bumping into each other. Not good! But it all worked so smoothly by the time it opened.

I had heard the same negative comments. After seeing it myself, I'm not sure what disappointed them, but as I said not everything is for everyone.

Glad you were able to get Tusker House and hope you love the show and your seats. My plan is to get a ressie at Tusker House for our November trip.
Beautiful pictures of ROL. It'll be another year til I get to see it. My daughter was there when you were but she didn't stay for the whole thing. They had to leave before it was over for some reason.
That was a long wait for a bus back to AKL. At least it's close .
