PTR: The Dunning Family's Triumphant Return to the World - Page 38 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Getting ever closer! I'm also in the same pack/not pack land as I leave just two days before you!
I think you are probably better off waiting to replace Bri's dress until BB, because, as you said, she can choose whichever dress she wanted.
Grr on the missing items! I know that feeling oh so well. But upside, they will probably be on your doorstep Monday.
It turns out they arrived yesterday, but we didn't get the mail, so we weren't aware until this afternoon. They didn't bring them to our door for some reason, they were delivered at the apartment manager's office. Oh, well. The office is open tomorrow, so we will be able to get the stuff and I will finally feel more prepared for the trip!

For future reference, you can combine your gift cards onto one card on the Disney gift card website. I had to do that a couple of months ago during one of their online sales. It was easy to combine them.
That is GOOD to know! Thank you!

I don't have room to keep the suitcases out without interfering with daily life between now and then. But I'm ready to start!
Oh, they are? Is that just in the parks, or at the hotel, or...? I'm trying to be extra careful because I'm pregnant, but I honestly can't ever remember getting a mosquito bite at Disney World.
And yes, our apartment is way too small to have suitcases sitting around everywhere. So I'll likely end up packing the day before, which will make me feel stressed out.

David and I think it's the best route to go as well. She will love it! And she has plenty of other dresses to cart along with us on the trip, so, you know...she'll live, haha!

Today, we drove out to Mount Vernon to see my dad and grandmother, and Briana spent almost the whole visit telling them that it was almost time to go to Disney World, and that she was going to meet princesses and see the castle and stay at a cool hotel with statues of Lady and the Tramp.
I don't know if I mentioned this, but I had originally requested the 70's section, because it's fairly close to the main building and I thought Bri would like the decor over there. But then I realized since there is no pool in the 70's section, there's no laundry room there. And the one time we were in that section and had to do laundry, it was kind of a pain to haul it all the way over to the Hippy Dippy Pool area. And then when I was showing Briana (yet another) walk through video of the hotel the other night, she said "We're staying by Lady and the Tramp, right?!"
Well, problem solved. She wants the 50's section, there's a pool and a laundry room over there, life is grand.
I gave my dad and grandma a (typed) info sheet that had our flight info, hotel info (including phone number) and AJ's cell phone number on it. My dad gave me a hard time because AJ's number was handwritten. I told him that was because on the copy we gave to AJ's roommate and AJ's parents, OUR phone numbers were on there, and then on David's parents' copy, their copy, and my mom's copy, we wrote AJ's number. He teased me, saying it looked sloppy. I threatened him with bodily harm (), and he laughed. He KNOWS I am OCD about everything looking neat, so he should know better than to tease me.
Our countdown chain is getting so small! I can't believe we're almost to single digits! My newest project to get ready for the trip is to get in and get our apartment clean so we can come home to a clean home. Nothing worse than coming home from a hotel to a messy house! (Send me energy pixies, if that's a thing, haha! The third trimester of pregnancy is stealing all of my get up and go!)
We are here now, and to answer your question about mosquito spray, yes there is a can of spray in the resort room. But they also have stations set up in each of the parks where you can spray yourself.
We haven't bothered to use any because as you said, there really isn't a mosquito problem here! I've not seen one. But of course, being pregnant you should be extra cautious.
I can't believe how close your trip is!! Sounds like you are already to go. Hope those missing items show up soon! Glad you were able to switch your request to stay in the 50s section. It's usually pretty quite in that section too.
Jess - I'm so excited for all of you that your long awaited trip is finally here. I am just wondering how you and the newest princess are doing? I hope that you and your little one are doing well as your 3rd trimester starts and that the heat doesn't zap all your energy when you get to FL.
The article I read on the mosquito repellent says that there will be signage to direct us to tables in all the parks and Disney Springs. I was glad to see in Donna's (DMA) post that there is also some in the room. Even better to hear that mosquitos really aren't a problem at WDW.

Good to hear about this, but mainly a precaution!

Definitely! My midwife told me the risk to my baby is pretty much non-existant since I'm in my third trimester, but that I should of course, take precautions.

Everything has FINALLY arrived! Woo hoo!

She seems to be just fine in there, happily doing the Cha Cha or the Macarena or possibly the Twist all day, every day, and through the night, too! I have a midwife appointment on Wednesday so I'll know a bit more about her positioning and such then. I am also doing fine, just very tired all the time...more from my insomnia than my pregnancy. I've been getting lots of naps snuck in while David is home. I'm hoping the excitement of being down in WDW will give me an extra boost of energy, but have also scheduled in time for a midday break every single day of our trip, barring the first park day and our last day. So hopefully that will help as well...I'll nap with the baby while AJ and David take Bri swimming.

Yes, I'm very happy to hear about all of these things!

Now..., what's this nonsense about the hand-written phone number on a neatly typed paper ?
Jess I can't speak for what happens at other resorts but I can't think of a single visit at Ft Wilderness where they didn't come through with Mosquito repellant dispersing trucks once or twice a day. We've never had a problem and I have cheap Irish skin that they love

I've only been to WDW during the 1st-tri of a pregnancy, but I can tell you that on every single trip I've ever taken, I am running on adrenaline and can GO like my pants are on fire!! On days where at home, getting up by 7am is like waking the dead, at WDW I am up no later than 6:00 and looking like I was just infused with espresso!!! My family and I joke that they must put something in the pillow cases there. You breathe it all night and wake up at the crack of dawn, rarin' to go.

David's mom took him to get his hair cut the other day (because she's sweet and still likes to pay for his haircuts, haha), and she asked Briana if she would like to go and watch Daddy get his haircut so she could see what it was like.
Now Briana is all sorts of excited about getting her hair cut down in Disney World. She says "It's not scary, and my hair will look pretty after." Plus, the hairdresser gave her a sucker, so she's like "I love that lady, she's my favorite."
I had a midwife appointment on Wednesday and everything looks great, no concerns at all, so I've got my letter that states I'm clear to fly until October 25th. Yay!
My mother-in-law has offered to take us to Costco and Winco Foods to get our snack-type foods for the plane and to get snacks that were too expensive through Garden Grocer that we know we can get cheaper up here and will travel well via suitcase. We will probably do that the day before we leave, because if I buy them now they will be gone before then.
I took Briana to the doctor the other day and found out there is a possibility she has Type 1 Diabetes. I was less than impressed with this new clinic we had to go to because of our current insurance, and was frustrated that they didn't draw blood...they just took a urine sample and said they would call us back in a couple of days with the results. I told them "I'm going out of town in just over a week, and I need to know before we leave what's going on so that I can take care of my daughter properly." They said they "understood my frustration and concern" and they would "put a rush on it." This was on Tuesday. I called them today (Thursday) and asked for the results and they said they didn't have them yet and would call me as soon as they were in. I'm about ready to just go to her regular pediatrician and tell them I will pay off the labs on a payment plan, but could they please see her and run the tests for diabetes?
We've never had to wait more than 24 hours for results out of their normal doctor office, so I'm feeling really frustrated that with something this potentially life changing for Bri I am having to wait so long to find out. I have friends with type 1, and I have a general idea of what that would mean for her regarding blood sugar testing and insulin shots and diet management, etc. I just want to know what the heck is going on before we travel all the way across the country. I talked to my grandmother and found out that, unbeknownst to me, there is a long history of type 1 in our family. I had absolutely no idea, because it didn't affect her, my dad, or my uncle, so it's just never come up. Gah! Not knowing is stressing me out. I just want to know one way or the other so we can start doing what we need to/making whatever changes are necessary in order to keep Briana healthy.
*sigh* Enough of that. Sorry. I guess I'm venting a bit. One thing after another around here.
Since it's after midnight, we are now at 8 days on our countdown, and I am SO excited. I was dancing around the living room with the girls singing "9 days, 9 days, 9 days 'til Disney!" Briana and Chelsea were both cracking up, until Briana suddenly told me that I should stop singing because she wanted to watch Little Einsteins and I was "distracting" her.
I asked her what she had been doing in her room yesterday and she announced she was "packing" and wanted me to come look in her suitcase. (She has a carry on sized roller type bag that has Ana and Elsa on it.) I went into her room and opened her suitcase to find all of her kitchen toys and as many books as she could cram in there, as she proudly announced "I'm ready for Disney World!" It was precious, and I had to try so hard not to laugh at her. I explained that we weren't going to bring all of those toys, but we could put the books in her backpack for the plane.
David is finally starting to act a bit excited, which makes my heart happy. I think he was afraid we wouldn't be able to go for some unexplained reason, so now that we are just barely over a week out, he is finally realizing we really do get to go to our Happy Place again. I caught him watching a YouTube walk-through of our resort yesterday and he just grinned and said "I can't wait!"
Anyway, I should be editing right now...ever the procrastinator. To be fair, I've already completed two editing jobs tonight and I needed a break before I started the third!
Hope you get the lab results soon, and hope maybe they're wrong, too. But if they're correct, better to know ASAP for Briana's sake.
You're down to the wire now! Enjoy the dance!
