An Island Frame of Mind (A Cam and Luke PTR) Updated 5/22 - Page 38 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Sounds like it was a busy day, no wonder you didn't get to the packing list. You still have time, but time is ticking away. You must be getting excited now.
I am getting so excited. I was talking with DSis June tonight and she asked how many days to which I responded 10. Ten days isn't that long! :

I've never heard of a tulip tree. Does it bloom tulips?
Tulip trees do get a tulip like bloom once they are mature. My dad had two in his yard that were so beautiful when they bloomed.

I really do understand about the packing thing. Since I pack for DH and me I have to get a big jump on it. I must admit something as many times we have been in AK we have never seen Finding Nemo. That is at the TOP of our must do List for this year. The cross body bag is awesome. Just love it!!!!
YAY!!!! looks like we should see each other at some point on one or all of these days!
5/12 – MK 5/13 – AK 5/15 Holly Wood Studios
if you see 2 adult children (me & my brother) with 2 adults in ECV's THATS US!!!!!!!!!! Ill stop ya if I see you but sometimes when I'm in Disney I don't pay attention.
Yay! Another May trip for you guys to get to enjoy F&GF and SWW. My parents were just there two weeks ago and the pics my mom sent me from Epcot were gorgeous. Enjoy!
Your plans look great, as always.
Sorry you and June and your dad had an emotional day with the auction. It is always hard to let go. I hope he is nice and settled at June's and happy!
As much as you have been to WDW, I cannot wait to see what you and Luke think of DL & CA.
Love that bag!! I had no idea there were Tulip trees. Very neat! Not much longer now until its vacation time.
We've realized over the past two days have we were putting down mulch that we need to put something around our wee little tulip trees so that our nephew's mowing service won't mow them down while we're gone. They really are very hard to see until you are right on them.

I don't usually put the stuff into the suitcases until a few days prior to our trip as I don't have anywhere that is not in the way to leave the suitcases open. I don't like closing them back up until I'm done so that the clothes don't get wrinkled. With my list I just need to check off items as they enter a suitcase. For me, this method has worked quite well and we don't have to sacrifice floor space.

Please do holler if you see us. Like you, I'll try to get your attention if I see you, but I get in Disney mode and often forget to look around at other people.

Now that I have the WDW May trip pretty much under control, I've started looked at DL stuff and I'm getting more and more excited.
Yesterday evening while watching TV I was able to revise and update my packing list. Now when I do start the actual packing, I can add or delete anything as I go. We still have plenty of time and I’d rather not have to walk over suitcases to get to our dressers in the bedroom until I have to, so the suitcases won’t come in from the garage until sometime next week. I’ll keep you posted on when these make their arrival indoors.
Also last night after reading rhinohunter’s PTR, I realized I’d not ordered Memory Maker yet. So a quick trip to the Disney site and MDE took care of that. Look out PhotoPass photographers as Cam and Luke are on their way soon.
Speaking of soon, today marks single digits for us as we are officially at 9 days until we begin our two day road trip. I am getting so excited. In fact while walking today, Luke and I talked about what time we wanted to leave. I’ve teased Luke lately that he is becoming an old man because he has been waking up between 5:30 and 6:00. So today he said since he’s been getting up so early he wouldn’t mind leaving by 8:00 unless I wanted to sleep in. I don’t think so! We’re going to Disney! Our plan right now is up at 6:00 and on the road by 8:00.
Around 1:00, I went out to check the mail, which wasn’t here yet, but I did discover that my Best of Mickey Dooney & Bourke crossbody bag was here. I have transferred everything from my Haunted Mansion D&B to the new one as it will be traveling south with us. Trying it out this evening, it proved to be as comfortable and easy to access as my other two D&B crossbody bags. Definitely, my favorite style right now.
Luke and I have spent several hours over the past two days to get mulch around our landscaping, flower beds, and trees. This is not one of my favorite tasks, but the shrubs, trees, and flowers really pop now. Even the grass looks better. We’re going to wait on buying annuals until we get back so no one needs to water them for us. We’re also hoping that we’ll get some ideas at the F&GF, too, just like we did last year.
Tonight we took Luke’s mom out for dinner, and after taking her home, we ran a few errands. I checked a couple of places at our mall for my favorite Nike No Show Tab socks, and finally found some in colors I liked. Then we went to Bath & Body to check out a new scent Tahiti Island Dream, which I did purchase and it will be going to WDW with me. We also picked up some of the small hand sanitizers to include in Mamaw’s Mother’s Day present as she mentioned at supper that she’d like some. Our final stop took us to Hobby Lobby where I purchased a frame for Pam. I have a picture taken of Pam, Stefanie, and I in front of the castle that sat in Stefanie’s room that I thought she might like. I’m also giving her a Christmas video of Beauty and the Beast that was Stefanie’s.

Sounds like you're in good shape for the trip. I like the idea of leaving a bit earlier! I hope you wake up to dancing giraffes in your head! Have you seen the photos of the new Harambe Market? It looks fantastic. Unfortunately, opening day is May 22, but maybe they'll do soft openings before that just for you!
I am watching the DVC special webinar about the NEW Polynesian. The Deluxe Studios are great and huge. We have stayed in a studio at Old Key West before and thought it was big. I believe you are going to be amazed. Glad your new D&B bag has arrived. We are now both only a week away from leaving. Looking forward to actually getting to meet you guys. After all of the posts we have we have shared, it feels that we already know you.

What a lovely belated Easter with your family. Elijah is so adorable. Love Luke's train by the way
Luke hasn't done anything for a while, but then we've been busy working on the yard now that the grass and flowers and all are growing and blooming again.

Luke has been showing me photos all week of Harambe Market and then I saw more on Disney Parks Blog. I am very excited about this addition, and told Luke that I'm opening since were are there so close to official opening that we might get a soft opening. Otherwise, it will be another year before I get to see it.

I saw the DVC webcast (and made sure at the endto sign up for the sweepstakes to stay in a bungalow) and everything about the deluxe studios has me excited. Can't wait to see it and photograph it for myself.
I've always said that I don't feel like I'm meeting strangers when we find PPers in the parks at the same time. I remember a number of years back at a PP meet at Epcot that one of the ladies described it as finally seeing each other in 3D.
The plans are coming together and seems you have it under control! Starting out on the road early is a good thing as I always like taking an early flight as I can get more out of my day in WDW!
