First Ever Disneyland Trip Updated 10/13 - Page 37 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad you were able to book Walt's tour! Sounds like a good one!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Glad you got the tour booked. I tell you, I saw some of the people on various tours over the last few days and I am so glad that we weren't on those, given the heat.
I do hope the weather takes a cooler turn before we arrive in three weeks.

I think we are both really going to enjoy this one.
I have been patiently checking in on the Sharing the Adventure board to see if you had started your PTR...to no avail. Today it finally occurred to me that there might be a Sharing the Adventure board just for Disneyland - and of course here it is!
Love reading your updates...I haven't been to DL since I was 5 (just a few years ago!). So it's fun tagging along on your trip!
That is so cool that you booked the tour! I can't wait to hear about it.
The DVR is set for the Walt Disney and Jim Henson specials. I will start watching it live tonight, but I don't know if I will make it through the 2 hours. There are times I can do without cable, but I am so thankful for the DVR.

It's Monday football so I knew if we didn't DVR the shows, we wouldn't see it all.
We ‘ve had a fun weekend, but I’ve also discovered I have a UTI, which pretty much caused me to spend most of yesterday napping on the couch. I’m pretty sure I’ve never had a UTI before so after doing some research online, I called my doctor and was squeezed in today at 1:40. Hopefully, the antibiotic is going to kick this fast.
For quite a few years now, our city has an air show in September, the Owensboro Air Show (we’re not too fancy with the name). There are activities Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. But since we live near the airport, we have been hearing and seeing planes overhead since last Wednesday as the pilots got in some practice time. Friday right after dinner, we headed to the airport for the “Static Display,” planes that we could see up close that would later be in the show down on our riverfront. The cost per person was only $2, which allowed us to freely walk the area where the planes were parked, even getting up close and personal to most of them. For an extra cost a few allowed you to board, but all of these had exceptionally long lines and we were fine looking from the outside. For $35 you could ride a helicopter, but again we didn’t want to spend that much nor did we want to wait in the long line. Food vendors, including Chick-Fil-A, were set up along with souvenir tents. The Thunderbirds who would be doing the stunts the next two days were lined up around one of their planes signing autographs. A very family friendly event! We ran into some friends and chatted for a while. Of course, I took lots of photos. In all we wandered around checking out the planes for probably an hour. The crowd just kept growing, too. Due to my slowly dwindling space on Photobucket and I already pay for extra storage, I’ll only share a few photos of the Static Display.
A B-17 from WWI -- We actually saw this one flying over our house earlier in the week.
The next one shows Luke checking out something. The next shows what the something is, one of the guns.
The next plane is the Spirit of Charleston and is HUGE.
The next was named the Tennessee Ridge Runner, and was quite pretty.
I believe the next was a Cessna.
Saturday the city closed off the bridge across the Ohio River for our annual Bridge Walk. Usually this is later in September, but last year the city realized that meant closing the bridge two different days in the same month. So this year the events were combined. Some of you may remember Luke and I did this walk last year before our WDW October trip. Again we ran into several friends, so we chatted our way there and back. We actually parked at our new Owensboro Convention Center, which is so cool, and walked about a mile and a half to reach the bridge itself. I always forget how uphill the walk is at first, but the views from up there are stunning. To one side of the bridge is an industrial area while the other is the city itself with the River Park Center (think fine arts auditorium for music, plays, etc.), downtown businesses, and the aforementioned convention center. We made it all the across, entering the state of Indiana. Then we trekked back to Kentucky. Once off the bridge we walked the mile and a half back to the car. By the way, the bridge walk is about a mile, so we made our four miles. The weather today was exceptional with the high reaching only 70 degrees with low humidity and a nice breeze. I loved it! Before getting back home we ran a few errands and intended to sit out on the porch and watch the planes. But I wasn’t feeling too well, and took a nap instead. But here are a few photos from our walk. If you live here, you call this bridge the Blue Bridge even though it technically the Glover Cary Bridge. You quickly see why.
Turning around to return to Kentucky.
The Owensboro Convention Center
Looking back up at the bridge as we made it off.
A few years ago our riverfront underwent a huge renovation. It is so beautiful now. I love all the fountains and the waterfall.
As we walked behind the convention center, I attempted to take photos of several planes that were flying over, but this is the only one that turned out well. It is the B-17.
Due to our fun this weekend plus this pesky UTI, we’ve done nothing toward our Disneyland trip, which is now a mere 22 days away.
Hope all goes well with the UTI! (Sorry, but not sure what a UTI is as I'm oblivious to the abbreviation). Seems like a great time for the air show! I'm guessing that big plane Luke adored was a B-52?

The meds do seem to be doing the trick. Sometimes I wish we had more of the events that bigger cities have, but overall our city does have quie a bit of fun happening.

Wow! 22 days away! Very exciting!
We were just looking at the DVR and realized that there are TWO 2-hour episodes of the Walt Disney special. I'm glad we saw that because otherwise we would have missed one. We only had the second one lined up to record. Now we're all set.
