Home for the Holidays: A Thanksgiving and Christmas Mashup (A Cam and Luke PTR) Updated 11/4 - Page 35 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm so sorry your knee is acting up, especially right before your trip. Good luck with getting it under control soon. Whew, glad Shutterfly saved your work for you. I'm so sorry your Dad is experiencing health issues and hope they can be resolved. I think of him often whenever I read your posts. It's less than a week now which is a really exciting time in the planning.
Love the shed! I can’t believe how cool it’s been there (and so warm here)! Sorry your knee is acting up! Thank goodness you were able to retrieve the calendar! Not much longer!!
Hope your knee is better soon - hopefully without need for a steroid shot!
Hoping it works out for us to meet up next week!!!
I woke up around 5:00, needing to go to the bathroom. I hopped out of bed as I usually do, and half way there I realized my right leg was working smoothly. I bent down and the knee was only barely swollen. Hallelujah! I'll send you and Tara a text as soon as we board DME.

My knee is better and has been at this point is back to its normal self. I am so thankful! I think I've gotten the clothes sorted out. I may be a little over-prepared as a few of the nights look chilly for me.

I love your new storage building. They are so handy.
Thanks! The pixies and prayers have definitely worked. As I tell Luke, my knee is cute again.

Thank you so much! Dad said he doesn't know that he'll feel like getting out much this week with the pain. But I hope he at least gets his hearing aids checked again. I use a lot of family photos for our calendar as I give several for Christmas gifts, but there are always quite a few Disney PhotoPass photos in it, too.
Less than a week to go...so excited for you two! Hope your knee doesn't require a shot. Not fun...but they usually help a lot!
No shot today! I know it will help, but my doctor and I are waiting for that time when the swelling lasts past a couple of days.

I hope both you and your Dad are feeling better! I have discovered that I am not fond of aging! : what a relief that your project was saved! I have done things like that and had them not be saved.
I sure hope all works out so that we can meet up as much as possible!!
Thanks for the pixies, at least for me, they are working. I'm not fond of aging either and Daddy has mentioned the same thing, especially since this last surgery. He just hasn't bounced back like it did from his heart attack and the broken femur.
I was positive that I hadn't saved the calendar, but thankfully, the autosave had kept it for me. Big relief!
I keep telling Luke for so many of our days, "Now this day we'll probably see Tara and Muffin." Can't wait!

My knee decided to deflate during the night, and I am so thankful. I was so relieved when I opened Shutterfly back up and there was the calendar in my projects file. He had had some pain about a month ago, but the last several weeks when I called he was feeling well. So I was a bit sad when I got off the phone with him yesterday.

Thanks! According to our local meteorologist, we are getting Canadian air and that has caused the cold high temperatures. It should be in the upper 60s by the end of the week, but we've still got a few more cold days before that. In fact, he said tonight we might have some "cosmetic flurries" on Wednesday morning. Funny terminology!
I woke up around 5:00 AM and realized that my knee wasn’t hurting. Hallelujah! When I finally got up this morning, the swelling was nearly gone. No shot for me today! After breakfast I tackled a Monday morning task that this week also includes trip preparation. I put our vitamins, supplements, and prescriptions in the weekly case for now and the two-week case for the trip. This is usually a fairly quick task, but sorting out three weeks’ worth of medicines takes a wee bit longer. I’ve put the cases for the trip in a gallon Hefty bag and placed them in our Vera Bradley travel bag. So I have officially started packing.
We eventually made it out for a 5K walk. At least today it was 55 degrees and sunny for most of the walk. That is 14 degrees warmer than Saturday’s walk. Yeah! After lunch, Luke headed to his new utility shed to lay the vinyl flooring while I worked out what I’ll be wearing on the trip. I only had to iron four pairs of shorts and that took hardly any time at all. I haven’t pulled everything out that will be going, but the packing list is beginning to fill in. Everything I did pull out today has been neatly folded and placed on a chair in the master bedroom. I didn’t have Luke deal with the suitcases today because flooring the shed took the entire afternoon for him. 004 Flooring-1 (640x427) by Cam Matthews, on Flickr
I’m very proud of him as he has never laid vinyl flooring before. He did all the work with just a smidge of assistance from me, but I was mainly inside working on the trip wardrobe and doing laundry.
COUNTDOWN FACT: 6 trains on the Big Thunder Mountain railroad are named. I.M. Brave, I.M. Fearless., I.B. Hearty, U.B. Bold, U.R. Daring, and U.R. Courageous.
The shed floor is beautiful! Luke did an awesome job!! I’m so happy to hear that your knee is feeling better today!! . Congrats on the the packing progress and I love your daily fact today!!
Love that vinyl flooring for the shed and hope it's fine considering the abuse the shed may take over the years and what it will be used for!
So happy your knee is feeling better today as from so much pain to nothing in almost no time! With your trip approaching, it sounds like divine intervention to me!
