As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So glad the weather was better for the return journey. I love the shot of the plane! I still think it's nuts that something so large can fly in the sky. When we lived in Chicago, I used to drive by Ohare twice a day and every once in a while I would catch viewing a plane coming in for a landing through my sunroof.

All caught up again, and I see that I've now come to the end of the trip. Sorry your meal was less than stellar, in all aspects. From the food, to the waiter, to the annoying child and rude mother sitting next to you. I guess I'm the type of person who would treat others around me the way I'd like to be treated, so I would never let my child run amuck anywhere, especially all by themself, and then to be on the phone throughout the entire meal...so disrespectful to the other patrons around you.
At least the great character interaction more than made up for it.

Sunday 7 October – part ten: we didn’t expect to see that on the way back!
I was still fascinated by all the colours of the trees, so I took loads of photos of those, as it was just such a beautiful scene. You can’t have too many photos like this, surely...
And of course, you can never have too many photos of cows either...
The scenery was beautiful, although there isn’t much to see apart from farms and fields on this drive.
The TGV (train de grand vitesse – otherwise known as high speed train, imaginative, huh? on its way to Paris.... ... and the Eurostar making the same journey
One thing that did amaze us were all the people we saw out in the fields who had guns and were obviously shooting something. Literally, we probably counted 50 or 60 people on the way. I managed to get a couple of photos...
When I spoke to my mum later, she reckoned that it could be the grouse season, which made sense. Every time Mark saw any bird flying towards us, he’d be saying “no, turn round – you really don’t want to go that way!”
Soon we were coming in towards Calais...
We had one final stop to make before we headed for the tunnel, the place where we’d started, the service station at Cite Europe, home to such cheap gas! I couldn’t believe how much gas the car took. I guess though, in fairness, with a three hour drive each way, that was quite a distance we’d covered in just a couple of days.
Then it was off to the Eurotunnel terminal...
As usually happens with us, we were early, but sadly, as happened on the outward journey, there were no earlier departures than the one we were booked on, which was a shame. I guess that goes to show Eurotunnel are doing well, if they’re so fully booked...
We headed over to the terminal, and made a quick restroom stop.
Then it was time to explore the duty free store, where they had a nice offer on White Grenache wine, so I just had to get a box of that and some macaroons. I love these things from my childhood, as one (or possibly both) of my grandmothers used to buy them for me, but they’re so hard to find over here, so this was a real treat.
With that done, we headed back to the car, and fortunately the noticeboard in the car park showed that we’d be called for our departure in seven minutes’ time. Good – not too long to wait then!
We gave it five minutes, then we set off.
We thought it was neat that they had one of the cutters used to create the Channel Tunnel here
We were in the first row for boarding the train, which I don’t think we’ve ever managed before, although the downside to that is you do sit there for a while, but we had food and drink (and I don’t mean the wine! ) to occupy us, so we were happy!
When the boarding started, we were surprised to find that only the bottom level of this train appeared to be open. That’s something we’d never seen before. We were safely on board, although again, we had quite a wait before we were moving, as all the other vehicles were loaded.

The journey back was a lot smoother than the way out, thank goodness. When we got back to the UK and got off the train, the sun was absolutely beautiful. It’s what I call a “wintery sunset”, the sort of thing you only see in the colder months, and it was just stunning.
We drove back, and half an hour later, we were back at home. It had been a wonderful weekend, packed with Disney magic – a nice way of keeping the magic alive until we get back to the States.
The weather today was dry and cloudy with some sunshine and temperatures in the high 50s. The best thing today was the fun character interaction we enjoyed. The worst thing today was having to go home. The funniest thing today was Chip and Dale squeezing in on both sides of me at lunchtime! Today we tried visiting World of Disney And the result was it’s a great addition to the Disney Village, although it didn’t have as much stock in it as we expected. The most magical moment today was seeing Mickey and getting our photo with me at the Hotel New York.
A nice, uneventful trip home-- just the way a travel day should be. I love Mark's warning to the birds. I do appreciate that you made this TR last a lot longer than the trip! Thanks!
