What will it be for trip #3? (August 5-14, 2012) - Page 35 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad you had a great time at the cabin! The only thing I hate about vacation is that there is still laundry! How fun that your check in day is on your anniversary! Make sure you ask for your anniversary pins when you check in! I hope you are able to get all of your room request! Not much longer before you'll be there. YAY!!!
Congrats on checking in to OKW! I think the Room Requests are different for different resorts. I don't know if it's because we are DVC, but often there really are no options for room requests for our reservations.
Back!!! Hope POR and OKW are able to accommodate your requests!
Thanks!

Yeah...I wonder if they deal with fewer requests in general for moderates (and values?) so it is not as imperative for them to advertise what things may be available to request? For Deluxe/and villas....perhaps people are generally more kowledgeable, more liekly to be return visitors, and more likely to be picky? It must be cost effective for them to spend more time trying to accommodate requests in this manner than it was fielding requests on a more individual basis?

I went to the WDW site today to remind myself the exact amount due at checkin to POR on Saturday.
As you know, I completed online checkin for POR on Sunday and online checkin for OKW yesterday. Yesterday I also sent a fax room request to POR and OKW (nothing special...close to laundry and pool at POR and dual entrances to bathroom and close to pool at OKW).
When I went to "my reservations" today, the link for online checkin was once again available.
I got nervous. So I started online checkin again. Th credit card I entered was there for both and the special request I entered for OKW was there..sort of...I was allowed to check 2 things. Since close to pool was not an option I checked close o HH in addition to the dual lavator thing. The close to HH was not checked but dual lavatory entrances was.
I do not now know if I have ever before checked this page after completing online checkin. Does the link return once your checkin ha been processed? Or does this provide any evidence tat someone read my fax request and changed something?

I don't think I've ever checked by after I've done online check in, though now I'm interested in knowing.
I posted in resorts board as well...I got replies saying that the link is always there in case you want to make any changes (although I did not see it still there as soon as I used it). Someone also said they had experienced only one of their two requests being displayed but when they called WDW both were there on their system.
Yesterday I picked out all of the kids clothes to bring and packed their fanny packs for the parks. All kids get a tiny light, and a little notebook and pen. We want Delaney to carry her own wipes and Benadryl so she can easily separate with either parent.
Hannah's included ear plugs and a poncho because that will give us a better chance of getting her on splash Mountain (she HATES the story--she got freaked out when briar rabbit ended up in a pot) and other rides with loud noises or scary themes.
Ben needs his inhaler.
We also picked out some pins to trade. We have so many cute ones I am wishing I would have ordered more on Ebay before this trip.
Packing last night I started to get worried about how we will carry all of our essentials without a stroller. We seem to be a high-maintenance family! If the kids really are able to carry their own essentials, I hope to get by with just a little bag. It is something we may need to trouble-shoot as the week progresses.

Were you happy with the pins you got from Ebay? People have me all worried now that I am going to purchase some scrapper pins.....I have some sites people have sent me, but haven't ordered anything yet. I hope Josie get's the whole concept of this anyway.
Sounds like you are on the right path with having the kids carry their own items. I can imagine without the stroller it must seem odd. I always have had much luck with a cross body bag that I could find at either TJ MAX or Marshals. I have a Vera Bradley one now that I love for the parks, and I have seen them at both of those stores.
I often pack several size bags in my suitcase, just in case. My passporter pouch, a tiny backpack, and two crossbody bags often get packed. I don't usually use any other than the pouch or the smaller crossbody, but if I decided I needed to carry more one day for some reason, then I have a larger bag on hand.
I think you are really thinking through what each child carries and I'm sure it will go fine.

Good luck getting the packing done.....
I ordered the pins after the 2010 trip and before I knew anything about scrapper pins. I am pretty sure that many of them are scrappers. I am pretty sure many are also real. That is why I did not continue to order them...it seemed to complicated to seek out the genuine ones. Each kid has about 5 to trade to start out with. I can imagine picking more up at WDW, but we would not want to trade those!

Good idea. I was wondering about packing an extra backpack...now I will
Just a thought - do any of your kids have the nylon drawstring bags (are they even popular outside of Ohio?). I packed two with us - specifically for the Y.E.S. class day because I HATE hauling a big bag around.
Nolan carried an extra change of clothes (he hates being wet) in his, and I kept Patrick's Benadryl and Epi pen, a Diaper and Wipes and a couple laminated "allergy" cards I had made up on our printer. It was so much nicer than having one person haul an over-packed bag.

My son has one--we use it as a "swim bag." That is coming with us. It may be used for more than waterparks and trips to the pool.
